Primarily it is by market cap, and we sliced them up based on that, then created responses based on the subset they are in. We now have a growing list of wittier responses based on actual information or community jokes.

Meanwhile, we are adding some cool metrics and thinking of features (on top of an informative, yet crude newsletter). Everyone has been pressing to put adwords up, but we think itll take away from the fun and look of things...would much rather build an engaging community.

Open to any ideas or suggestions.

1. doesn't show much though. there have been shitcoins in the past that had a huge network activity at times.
2. it is a better criteria but not the easiest to measure.
3. not good at all. i can create a shitcoin do a giveaway and get a lot of newbie idiots to spam hundreds of pages in that thread. that doesn't make that shitcoin any better
4. this is good if you can measure it but since there are not "accounts" in cryptocurrencies you will have a hard time finding them properly. some coins are easier than others but some devs knew how to cover their tracks!
5. doesn't matter at all
6. doesn't matter much. there are shit/dead-coins that have been around for years and there are good projects that are young.

The massive amount of engagement we received is unexpected, but humbled by it. Now that we understand how seriously people are taking this, we plan on incorporating more metrics...market depth is another good one, in addition to github stats perhaps, number of nodes, anon dev or not, and more. We can get creative. Earlier in the thread someone mentioned statistics similar to these as well. Ultimately we plan to start showing some metrics and thinking of fun features. We can show rankings of shittines or not-shittiness of coins haha

Going to start a newsletter as well which will be informative and still have our humor.

We can turn this in to some 'serious shit' lol

I love this. I also think you should look at the amount the coin is raising. If their is an ICO for a million that's diffrent than if they are kasing for 100k for their budget. Do they have a detailed budget filled out?

Well, at least there is something fun that makes my mood seem so good. But I noticed that you have just supported Bitcoin. Although it is a kind, there are many other coins that will prosper in the future. You are being too subjective, OP. It is not that I am not supporting Bitcoin because it is my favorite one. But still you need to give other coins a chance. Your website is great and I am sure you will redesign it for the better.

i was thinking more in the lines of commit frequency and contributions to the repository. there are so many useful API calls that you can make to get these stats easily too which you can use in your code.

Here at DOIAS we see the glass half empty  lmao No..but the thing is we may rank shittiness, so everything is a 'shitcoin' perhaps, but some less so than others. We'll work on it...would people rather rank shittiness so least shitty to most shitty or somehow define something as a shitcoin or not. Interesting, but number of commits is a quantitative figure, which is obviously one part of the picture, the other part is to measure qualitative things like quality of commits (sentiment is another qualitative figure too).

I'll dig in to this, and we'll organize things. We'll work on a newsletter for sure, then think about what we want this to turn in to. Still want to hear more from the community.

Ideas/word vomite I mentioned before:
- Coin marketcap may rank coins by marketcap, but what if we ranked by shittiness or not? Interesting to see what correlation to marketcap there is too there...

I own a dozen of shit coins. Ebit and meetip coins , a shit coins in my wallet for more than 5 months, no news from the developers and project upgrade. A fork BTC , Super Bitcon (SBT) is also a shit coin , I regret buying with my hard earned ether.

I own a dozen of shit coins. Ebit and meetip coins , a shit coins in my wallet for more than 5 months, no news from the developers and project upgrade. A fork BTC , Super Bitcon (SBT) is also a shit coin , I regret buying with my hard earned ether.

It's okay, part of the territory I suppose, there is over 95% love honestly...we've been very engaged with comments across the web and mostly everyone is getting a good kick out of it, and the couple percent who are triggered aren't selling or buying anything as a result, they're just triggered - it's not tricking anyone lol BUT...none the less, despite the fact that this gained more traction than expected (didn't expect anything lol), there is some responsibility that comes with it, cannot be ignored, so we'll update some of the answers to be funny still, but less intense/personal perhaps. This is built by crypto lovers - we can turn this in to a fun portal to actually learn about coins...the answers are just meant to be silly, and people understand that.

Maybe 'shitty merch' in the future, coin t-shirts, etc (not shitting on the coins lol, just solid apparel). I'm word vomiting now.

Yeah - we'll add a response option that says its one of the highest tier shitcoins. The point is that it may turn in to ranking levels of shittiness, not defining a coin as a shitcoin or not (not hotdog or not hotdog lol). In time it'll get tightened up, for now we added some basic metrics below the coin and you can type in the entire coin name, working more on backend stuff at the moment.

Any ideas for metrics for coin dashboards would be cool, so you can click like 'view more stats' and see a shitty ranking, but also actual stats (marketcap stats, github, nodes, etc).

Ultimately curious what everyone else envisions this becoming. It can turn in to a cool data portal/merch place/funny (and informative) newsletter is what I am thinking. We've been in this industry for a long time and have a lot to write about.

It doesnt really have any basis on most coins being defined or tagged of with the word "shit". Ive searched potential ones but still they do have that shittier word to their names where i also disagree and doesnt take it too seriously but its quite understandable because creation is just 2 hours and not anyone can make this site for a short duration which is still impressive on my side.

Most coin devs find it funny, it's creating engagement (not moving the market lol), and ultimately, this will be promoting all crypto. View actual statistics and potentially merch for diff coins.

Yeah, we're putting together metrics to start an algo to rank 'shittiness'...we'll start with metrics that are simpler to automate such as some github stats and market metrics. Over time we can manual add anon dev vs non anon dev, number of nodes, or how many wallets own X percent of liquidity, etc.

Whats running behind the site besides an automatic response that an altcoin is a shitcoin if its not BTC? If theres nothing then at minimum put some funny jokes or memes as responses, otherwise the idea behind the project is okay but more contentful responses needed.

The program says that ZAP is a shitcoin. Well I'm not surprised because I already knew that fact very long time ago that's why I just gave up on it. But saying ETN, EOS and NEO are shitcoins? I barely disagree. I believe those coins have a bright future (I hope I'm not wrong in picking ETN) Well, I don't take this seriously because it's very obvious that the program has no strong basis of what it says.

Anyway, I noticed that there is no constant comments on some coins, though it has same negative feedback but still different in words which makes me wonder if the system of the program only make random comments for each coin. This has been answered several times in this thread lol - "HODL that shit" and "Good job! Top-tier shitcoin, etc" has a similar sentiment in our opinion. There are diff answers with the same level of sentiment depending on the subset. You need to understand that it's ranking shittiness (i.e. even BTC would be a higher-tier 'shitcoin'). So, it's not defining shitcoin or not shitcoin, it's going by shittiness. Right now it's really market cap as a basis, but we are working on a more robust algo with github metrics and other sentiment analysis tools that other people have reached out to us about. Appreciate the interest.

We agree, we are actually working on a 'shittiness algo'...and this will be somewhat iterative, but v1 will be incorporating market metrics of course like marketcap, and volatility of price and volume over different time periods, as well as DIOAS stats like how many times it was searched, and potentially upvote/downvotes as we include that in coin dashboards, working on twitter sentiment for ALL coins actually...then there are manual variables we can add over time like quality of team, ICO or not, github metrics for each coin, and more.

We're having a blast actually, and in the mean time just building a community, coin reviews each day as you can see, and more...we're keeping busy lol

You can enter the entire coin name... i.e. BTC or bitcoin will work.

We agree the design is not 'sleek', we may work on layout, but the 'design' has a raw feel, which we are staying with for the time being I think. We kind of like it lol We'll see...working on feature/product and organizing other things out for now.

How would you rate the quality of a project's team? Will you look at each merged pull requests in Github? That would be very hard to do on all 1600+ coins. What if the team is anonymous?

For easier ratings, my suggestion would be to drop the coins outside of the top500 for now.

Mmm..yeah in V1 we wouldn't get Github or 'team' data however we would decide to do that. It would be somewhat iterative as mentioned. The first set of variables will be ones we can automate for all 1600+ coins. Marketcap, price volatility over diff time periods, volume volatility over time periods, # searches in our system...quickly after this we should have twitter sentiment to include, and more prob.

Was trying to avoid cutting out coins.. Will think on that though, since some will get manual eventually.

- If you didn't know we, have been posting 1 coin review a day M-F...we have released over 55 articles so far....we get daily readers and emails (over 2,500 on our mailing list), so the engagement there has been decent. As a result, we are now looking for guest writers to write other topics outside of coin reviews..anything related to blockchain/finance/crypto really.

- Next on our list is to implement coin dashboards. Regarding your Burst...well, it's not up to us, it's up the algo...moving forward this means rankings will be dynamic.

As far as following, we are growing....2,500+ email list, hundreds of engaging users daily, active Telegram, Twitter...but it is all out of pocket, we have actually denied thousands of dollars worth of payments from projects for paid posts. We want to keep the content straightforward and honest, so we're exploring other revenue streams (merch, maybe patreon, 'sponsors' of companies in the space, not coins...other stuff).

Is this for real. It can't be. Literally all the coins I'm holding are shitcoins? How are the coins assessed? What are the criteria considered?

Please read through the thread...this has been answered quite a few times. Those answers are from when we first released, primarily based on market cap. We're creating a new algo that is dynamic tho pulling in different factors (twitter sentiment...yes we partnered with a guy who created a twitter sentiment analysis bot...really cool actually, as well as price and volume volatilities over diff time frames, and market cap, # of searches)

We do not define shitcoin or not shitcoin in a binary way...its just levels of shittiness...even Bitcoin is a 'high-tier shitcoin' or whatever.

Also curious what you think of our blog. People are learning a lot from our coin reviews...hence, we are not Bitcoin maximalists lol Scorpio dude is just salty XD...it's okay though. This project is far from a joke.

Having that said, Burst has no premine and no ICO, it has been attacked by some people who were pretending to be supporters, crashed the price, DDOS the nodes, but it still is living on better than ever under a new team called the Proof of Capacity Consortium. Node count is increasing and also mining capacity. Its a project deserving to be in the top 50 if you ask me.

Not 100% on a hard deadline, but looking for within' the next 4-5 weeks.

Keep in mind the algo is not saying which coins to hold for 1 year or 6 months... instead, they show a current status of the coin, dynamically taking in different metrics live....so you can take that as you will. Our dashboards will show volatilities and some unique metrics you do not find elsewhere.

We've actually denied lots of paid advertising requests to keep our content to the point. We're brainstorming other potential avenues for revenue (merch, soft sponsors maybe, idk)....for now we rely on tips.

It is easy to spot shitcoins because 80-90% of the projects in the ico period are scam but sti they gave you tokens for that and eventually will leave you hanging for their project that has non sense. Personally I do not need to find out shitcoins in my wallet because it is easy to spot them.

It was not until maybe a couple of weeks after launch that we set up the tracking of stats that you see on that page. For example, within 24 hours of us going live, we had about 40,000 unique visitors engage on the site. In reality, there are most likely well over 1 million searches if I were to estimate since launch.

Every day people still search though, and when we push new coin dashboards and a dynamic algo, we expect more engagement.

Of course not! To be clear, we are not traders or n00bs treating crypto like a lottery ticket. I personally have been deeply involved in the crypto space for about 5 years now. I consult for various project and do lots of writing for educational companies, direct coins, news sites, ICOs, or anything else that piques my interest and reaches out to me. To be frank, I am not very involved in price action and get paid in crypto or fiat for my expertise and consulting. Aaron is also a long time software engineer and all around technology lover. We've been friends for many years and plan to grow the DIOAS brand big time, whether bull or bear run.

Bull or bear market, we are fine and don't rely on the market.

TL;DR - we disagree with the haters. Technology takes time to grow whether it be from a user-experience perspective (which needs a lot of work) or technically (scaling, performance, viability, improved privacy). The industry is here to stay. I can tell you that as someone in the industry very in tune with hiring opportunities and startups popping up, as well as the legal side.

1. Appreciate the kind words. Aaron built that from the ground up, because no template quite fit our feel. They were all too "polished"...

2. Yes, but until we have sponsors or a large enough community to support ourselves doing this, it will be unpaid. We pay monthly for servers and write daily articles for free. There are people (who have emailed us already) open to doing it for free as it gives them exposure. They can show off their knowledge - additionally, there is no expectation really. An article once a day, week, or month is fine...

Soon we'll be integrating a dynamic algo which will spit out answers based on current market metrics. But, the point is that projects are ranked by levels of shittiness, even Bitocin being a "high-tier" shitcoin. There is shit-tier, low-tier, mid-tier, and high-tier. Soon we will also be implementing dashboards for each coin where it will clearly say each rank.

In the meantime, we've been focusing on creating content for our blog. We write an article a day - check it out.

I own a shitcoin I obtained from a bounty campaign. The project was in the S*x industry and I felt excited about it. What I was thinking was to get all the bounties from the ICOs. I don't care if it will become a shitcoin or no. As long as I have my free time and I get the project, it's all fine. It's a matter of investing time and effort, win or lose I won't care.
