Announcing a new alternative cryptocurrency - Fairbrix

First, many thanks to Lolcust, EskimoBob, and ArtForz for helping me out with this.

About this new currency...

This chain is much like Tenebrix, which is difficult to mine with GPU's.  The major difference is, this chain has no loaded Genesis block.  I have mined a few blocks along with EskimoBob, to verify the system works.

The following link will take you to a zip download for Windows.

The source will be forthcoming, so if you're not comfortable using this until it is open for all to see on GitHub, you'll only need to wait a bit.

Im getting something like this on 1 thread CPU mining and only hashes and speed on 2 threads.

Is it working or I did something wrong? So far no block generated i think.

You might just have created the best CryptoCurrency yet.

I'm convinced of the merit of the CPU friendly approach for encouraging wide/faster adoption and appreciate the value of removing the 7 million coin 'overhang' of Tenebrix.

However, superior solutions without momentum fail all the time. Not sure how to kickstart a cryptocurrency, but I'm sure it involves lots of hustling.

Try using the other batch file to mine.

There is a problem with the code so you may want to hold off for a bit.

I will premine a few to make sure things work ok. Apparently, that was really needed. When everything is looking good, I will post the client and the source.

In the meantime, please stop your clients and miners and switch back to tenebrix.

I would not suggest mucking around with your fairbrix.conf file to try to generate coins for the original chain. This would just make people fork different chains and create a huge mess.

The code was changed from the multicoin defaults by someone, in the orginal multicoin the default block when not set is MAX_INT,  someone made it 100 in this fork.   Why I have not idea, they should have put it in the config file probably instead of putting it in the code.


You still need a relaunch, or you need to use the multi step innflation trigger code that is in multicoin to add rules to keep the 0 coin blocks valid.  For some reasons this code also removed that though.

Anyway,  give the skill sets and the fact only 100 blocks matter with coins in them anyway, a relaunch is really the best idea here.

We are now at 2000 blocks, so 25% of the chain is after I started finding coins again. Won't be long before it's the majority. Why not just go with it?

I'm not precious about this, it just seems that one "#" is way less problematic than a re-write, no?

Forget the chain form first launch attempt. I was mining  it all night but what can I say, shitt happens and now I am back to 0.

Did you observe that though?  Or did you just make that change and keep your already downloaded blocks data file.  Delete your blocks file and try again, remember they are not re-validated every time you restart the client. So unless you deleted your already existing block files you did not observe what you thought you did as far as what a fresh client or a re validation of the whole chain would see.

The clients should all have to agree on how many coins are in a block to validate them.  This is what prevents someone from mining 5000 coins a block for themselves.  Either the validation code in fairbrix is bugged or zero coins is treated differently.   It should not be working like you are seeing, but since it is doing that either due to a bug or a some special logic it should have worked then.  Now what happens if you mine 250 coins a block?  That would see if the bug is only for zero coins.

Also... I tried to send 38 fairbrix to my newly installed wallet. no confirmations. it did come out of my account. I looked at Fairbrix transactions at Blockexplorer and there was no such record. What's happening?

I suppose that you have the daemon up and running and that you have already compiled the miner.

Ok, you can call me stupid. LOL I'm not sure what all that means ... but here's what I did.

1. I have the FBX wallet working.
2. I downloaded the Fairbrix-pack and unzipped
3. I started it by opening the START-MINING MS-DOS BATCH FILE
4. I followed the instructions on the black window that appeared
5. It read "press enter if mining solo" on every input
6. It trys do start but the message reads  "HTTP request failed: couldn't connect to host
and json_rpc_call failed, retry after 30 seconds"

Eventually it shuts down after 5 minutes

I tried my own IP address and it still did the same thing.

I'm not as smart as you, and I appreciate your help.

Go to the Data\Fbrix_files\ directory in the folder where you unzipped the package.
Edit the fbx.conf file (use notepad to open it) and change the line "daemon=0" to "daemon=1"
Start Fairbrix (with Start_fairbrix.exe in the initial folder)
Start the miner using start_mining.bat and do what you did before.

It will work.

After you make it, you might want to check out some more advanced miners suggested in the original thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=46528.0) or customize the inputs (like setting the threads number to your processor's number of cores minus 1, so that you can have a working desktop while you're mining.

They do. But:

At the current difficulty, if you're mining with 10 KH/s (a fast processor with a few threads) you get a block every 2-3 hours. Then that block would need 150 confirmations to be credited in your wallet. At the current network hash rate, those 150 confirms can take a week or so.

Fairbrix always seems to have a few people mining it at any given moment, I usually see a few connections, seldom more than eight though even with incoming port open.

The nice thing about it is people only seem to be using CPUs still, so just like BBQcoin was last year Fairbrix is one of those coins that people without GPUs can mine effectively.

Which just came out... Right after it comes out is a good time to run around looking for new bargains, as things that people placed for sale in the past become bargains at the new rates...

...And maybe place them for sale at some higher price that will be profit to you when someone notices that changing prices have turned it into a bargain. Considering my last purchase (weeks ago) and last nights purchase (9/22) was the only one to buy said bargain, you're welcome for being the only one actively taking advantage. It's still ~ 80 DVC per FBX.
