The limited supply and the distribution process leads to the analogy of gold. It's not hard to also see the similarity of something that was once a universally used as currency also being considered an asset and therefore an investment. While I don't disagree with what you say I think it is inevitable and unavoidable that many people will view Bitcoin as digital gold and an investment.

This is it in a nutshell. While I agree with the sentiment of the original poster (and I avoid focusing on it being an investment myself) it is unfortunately unavoidable that it would be viewed as an investment.

I'm not cool enough to have a fancy signature so you're stuck reading this

We all know what bitcoin helps the price rise and therefore the value of our hold bitcoin increases. This is why it can be called investment. So you do not blame people who call the bitcoin for this because it also explains other people who are rich because of the holding bitcoins.

I believe you cannot stop it because it is a cryptocurrency. It is digital money. It cannot be destroyed. So as early as now, people should already invest bitcoin if they want to have a happy life.
That is true, if development of crypto will be the same like now or even bigger price of coins will be X times bigger in future and thanks to that lots of people will earn, as faster you invest as more you gain in future.

Bitcoin was not meant to be an investment but ended up being one. It is a good investment that will yield a good profit. Which crypto coin has a prediction to be a million dollar someday? How many people are struggling to get just one bitcoin.

certainly not, bitcoin is a digital currency and is good for investing well in the long run but also can be done in the short term.

maybe the previous goals are different, the main purpose of bitcoin is to become the world's currency.
but I think it has failed, and why do you hate to call bitcoin as an investment?
I think bitcoin is more useful if it is a tool of investment than currency.

Can you stop calling Bitcoin an investment?

This damages the cryptocurrency. Bitcoin was not created to become an investment. Before Bitcoin, there were some digital currencies years back, the goal was always to be able to create a (digital) currency free from central banks and governments.
Cypherpunks and other anarcho-capitalists are at the origin of this idea, perhaps 20 or 30 years ago. None were intended to make an investment to be rich quickly.
You won't find in the white paper "investing" mentioned, you won't find any post from Satoshi mentioning it

Considering Bitcoin as an investment, this is the reason why we have more and more regulations, G20 summits and others craps, KYC, etc...
The word "Crypto-assets" didn't exist before, why did they create it? Because you even consider it an investment, then why shouldn't they?
Bitcoin could be a lot more accepted and used by now. Why should a merchant agree to be paid in Bitcoin? He wants money, not a piece of your investment.

You're not even investing, you are just gambling with money.
Go to the altcoins board, you will surely find plenty of ICOs where you can say you invested in. I have something for you, ICOs used to raise money are no different than "Crowdfunding". If you want to invest then there are a lot of Crowdfunding websites where you can invest in real startups with fewer risks, (you won't find any project using photos from Pixabay...)

Why don't we see cryptographers anymore? Guess the reasons

If an investment is made to an object to receive profits, this is an investment.

There are articles: arrived, loss, income as a percentage of capital, so this is an investment.

There will be a fixed price BTC - then it's a currency.

Can you stop calling Bitcoin an investment?

What do you meant by investment? Literally it means something that you put effort, money, hardwork, deep research and etc. So now how will you convince anyone to stop Bitcoin an investment? If i bought bitcoin last year with a price of $1,000 and now it's above $8,000  should i not call it an investment? I invest money, time and patience here so i think there aint wrong by calling my bitcoin my investment cause i don't have plan to sell it not unless it reach $50,000.

I think the OP meant to say that stop treating bitcoin as an investment because it wan not meant to be like that by the creator of the bitcoin. You still consider bitcoin as only investment because you have plan to sell your bitcoin when it reaches $50000 which simply makes bitcoin as dump and bump coin.We should use the bitcoin for what it menat for if you want bitcoin to have great future.

Exactly bitcoin is not meant to be an investment asset. It is a currency we should keep it that way, like any other currency bitcoin is a currency for the digital people. Bitcoin is needed more platform to use as currency.

Thanks for this write up. Bitcoin holders are just what you described and i believe that this has to do with ignorance on the part of majority of our members. We need more education on the need for bitcoin and reason why we should support P2P which is the rudiments of bitcoin fundamentals.

The real purpose of bitcoin is to be an alternative payment of every transaction used by humans. But there are some people who are able to think critically to take advantage of the weakness of bitcoin to make a profit as big as. Like the fluctuating price

How could it be called as digital "currency"?  If nobody is intending to invest and make real money in it?  Isn't it called investment if you expect you can earn profit to it?
Bitcoin is a digital currency as what you say but all currencies need to be supported in the way of investing.

Bitcoin was created for the purpose of paying for services on the internet. Most people think that bitcoin is for investment. But if Bitcoin is not used for investment, I think Bitcoin will never be as popular as it is today.

I agree with you but the problem is bitcoin is made to take out third party like banks to interfere with payments though what is happening now is the reciprocal. Government is also here trying to take advantage of the massive gain cryptocurrency are earning. Bitcoin was not supposed to be an investment but its different now and with the involvement of many companies in bitcoin i think it is time to call it the digital investment

So what the name if we buy BTC at $3000 and hold it till $15000? and we get a lot of profits? Is it not investment?
maybe the BTC is most popular with the name of investment. Bitcoin grow bigger because people say a safe investment. Yes I know in white paper Sathosi not calling the BTC is an investment, but the fact people call the BTC is an investment.

Dorsey told Market Watch that "Bitcoin, for us, is not just about buying. We believe this is a transitional technology that supports our industry, and we want to learn that as quickly as possible. " He also said Bitcoin opened up "an opportunity for more and more people to access the financial system." So it is not just an investment but also many other uses .

Basically each will make a term about bitcoin. there is no standard rule that prohibits so-called bitcoin investment. Do you see what the effect of the mention of bitcoin as an investment?
I think people will continue to buy and sell bitcoin.

I think everyone here is for profit. how else can this be called except as an investment

That's where you're wrong. Not everyone. In the beginning, this was about taking control away from governments and vested interests. Bitcoin was created to allow people to make financial transactions without the need for trusted third parties (banks) and to take the responsibility of money creation (printing) away from government agencies (central banks). It wasn't meant to be a way of getting rich.
Yes, bitcoin was not created for its use as a means of accumulating value, that is, for storage in order to extract profit from increasing its rate. Unfortunately, we have what we have. Now bitcoin is basically a means of investment as a financial asset, and not as a means of payment. And it looks like this situation will not change for the better. So whether we want it or not, buying bitcoin, people are investing in it and basically keeping it, rather than buying to use as digital money.

You get me wrong because I am not giving directives to anyone, I just wanted point how people are misusing/miscalling Bitcoin.
But following what you say, you will not any problem if suddenly the whole Bitcoin community starts to call Bitcoin an HYIP since you say "Everybody is free to call it what he wants". Media will consider it as an HYIP so.

I am from Europe and using the Euro currency. In my country, there are few cities that decided to create an alternative currency. It's not printed by the central bank and the government has no power over it. Guess what? These currencies are a lot accepted by the shops and citizens using it, there is even a mayor fully paid with an alternative currency. No one is calling that an investment and it's an initiative welcome and encouraged.

Yeah the 2 comments are trying to get my nerves lol
