Many people now consider bitcoin as an investment. Most of the cases you will heard in a lot of forums of "HOLD" which means by buying cheaper bitcoin and expect to gain profitr when the market of price of bitcoin increases. I know that bitcoin is a digital currency but nowadays people learn cryptocurrency as an investment platform to gain few and big profits through trading.

But as of now, people think that bitcoin get more profit if we hold for a long time and when it has fluctuated that the time people get a huge profit on bitcoin that's the reason why I think bitcoin has now remained good for investment. But I think Satoshi also did not say that bitcoin is for payment only.

Can you stop calling Bitcoin an investment?

What do you meant by investment? Literally it means something that you put effort, money, hardwork, deep research and etc. So now how will you convince anyone to stop Bitcoin an investment? If i bought bitcoin last year with a price of $1,000 and now it's above $8,000  should i not call it an investment? I invest money, time and patience here so i think there aint wrong by calling my bitcoin my investment cause i don't have plan to sell it not unless it reach $50,000.
I think the OP meant to say that stop treating bitcoin as an investment because it wan not meant to be like that by the creator of the bitcoin. You still consider bitcoin as only investment because you have plan to sell your bitcoin when it reaches $50000 which simply makes bitcoin as dump and bump coin.We should use the bitcoin for what it menat for if you want bitcoin to have great future.

I agree with you but the problem is bitcoin is made to take out third party like banks to interfere with payments though what is happening now is the reciprocal. Government is also here trying to take advantage of the massive gain cryptocurrency are earning. Bitcoin was not supposed to be an investment but its different now and with the involvement of many companies in bitcoin i think it is time to call it the digital investment
We can be restricted from bitcoin even it is decentralized until people are converting crypto into fiat and vice versa.Yes we can keep it as investment but aim for the future usage not just for the money.Maybe in future the value of bitcoin will mount to huge level so imagine how much you can make from investments if you keep very long term investment.

But following what you say, you will not any problem if suddenly the whole Bitcoin community starts to call Bitcoin an HYIP since you say "Everybody is free to call it what he wants". Media will consider it as an HYIP so.

Absolutely none, people have been calling it so many things I've lost count.
Did it stopped you believing in BTC, cause it didn't stop me ?!

I am from Europe and using the Euro currency. In my country, there are few cities that decided to create an alternative currency. It's not printed by the central bank and the government has no power over it. Guess what? These currencies are a lot accepted by the shops and citizens using it, there is even a mayor fully paid with an alternative currency. No one is calling that an investment and it's an initiative welcome and encouraged.

I'm from Europe also and also using the Euro. Cheesy
Judging by your nickname you seem to be French so I can guess that one of those currencies you mentioned is the Sol. Unfortunately, I don't see any use in a currency that is pegged to the euro.
This is why you can't even consider them an investment. Maybe a hedge against the $...but not an investment.

But I think Satoshi also did not say that bitcoin is for payment only.
Maybe because people buy bitcoin in its low price and sell upon the rise and with this process it will be somehow called as an investment in such way that we are investing for the future but basically its not an investment since bitcoin is a decentralized system and no other party to rely for the future of our money its only between you and the blockchain, and the rise of such mining site offering a big profit if we invest a portion of our bitcoin then I think that is the true investment. Therefore Bitcoin as a crypto currency is like other real currency that can be use as investment and beyond.

Almost all technologies created by mankind were originally intended for the other. Bitcoin is no exception and it adapts to the current needs of its users. I believe that bitcoin can be both an investment and a payment instrument.

Really? You think it's a profit making machine... That's why this market is so volatile. I smell a typical buy high sell low "investor".

it doesn't matter whether you call it investment or not, unless people there is possibility to gain profit people will continue invest in it.

That's unfortunate, but true. Names won't matter if the public sees it this way and in a ways it was intended to be shaped by the people. It was a project made to show if we can work together and push this project through one way or the other. I hope Satoshi is watching from the shadows and taking notes for a book about human behaviour and tendencies in society Tongue

It was just meant to be a currencies and coin void from government interference but it has gotten to another level where its not just an investment, its become an asset. Friend, its beyond anyone as a person, its just more than an investment.

Can you stop calling Bitcoin an investment?

This damages the cryptocurrency. Bitcoin was not created to become an investment. Before Bitcoin, there were some digital currencies years back, the goal was always to be able to create a (digital) currency free from central banks and governments.
Cypherpunks and other anarcho-capitalists are at the origin of this idea, perhaps 20 or 30 years ago. None were intended to make an investment to be rich quickly.
You won't find in the white paper "investing" mentioned, you won't find any post from Satoshi mentioning it

Considering Bitcoin as an investment, this is the reason why we have more and more regulations, G20 summits and others craps, KYC, etc...
The word "Crypto-assets" didn't exist before, why did they create it? Because you even consider it an investment, then why shouldn't they?
Bitcoin could be a lot more accepted and used by now. Why should a merchant agree to be paid in Bitcoin? He wants money, not a piece of your investment.

You're not even investing, you are just gambling with money.
Go to the altcoins board, you will surely find plenty of ICOs where you can say you invested in. I have something for you, ICOs used to raise money are no different than "Crowdfunding". If you want to invest then there are a lot of Crowdfunding websites where you can invest in real startups with fewer risks, (you won't find any project using photos from Pixabay...)

Why don't we see cryptographers anymore? Guess the reasons

Sorry man, but it's just more valuable as a store of wealth right now than a form of instant transactions. While I do agree with you and support your cause, I cannot say that bitcoin is a practical currency at this stage, and therefore is not something that I would see myself going to a merchant with to do business (unless of course it is regarding a service and the merchant can wait patiently for the coins to come through).

But in terms of daily services, the network that is fundamental to bitcoin cannot actually function to the level of other competitors, namely visa and mastercard. Myself, I'd much rather put cash on the table because I see it as the instant transaction of value. When I can put bitcoin on the table in the same manner, I will adopt it unrelentingly.

Actualy those happen before thats there was created digital currencies in order to create there own free from central banks with the government is been created privately to the  purpose for there own seek, unlike the bitcoin now its is created for the  purpose to help in economic growth and social responsibility,so therefore we called btc is an investment  and at the same time as a payment in making transaction, therefore bitcoin currency other called a multi tasking currency, because of its different purpose to the community, being a digital figured currency.

You are really right on this, bitcoin  is not solely for investment but a digital asset or currency. It is about time we start treating bitcoin with the best regards that it deserves. We need to place a value on it by using it frequently as a currency for goods and services when dealing with people.

I am all in favor of more use as currency than use as speculative investment tool. I however am realistic enough to understand that we can't have that in this early exploration stage. Even if people do as you say and invest in ICO's and altcoins, they will still affect Bitcoin because due to regulations (KYC/AML) there is no way for most of them to cash out in USDT and USD. What happens is that these people dump their coins for Bitcoin because it's the most liquid coin by far -- there is nothing that comes even close to Bitcoin in that regard. Bitcoin is for the crypto space what the USD is for the world economy. Both are base currencies.

you can not just assume bitcoin is not an investment
do you know why bitcoin now and even until later will always be an investment?
because of the limited supply of bitcoin and get it you have to do mining activities
to mine the miner should have equipment that is not cheap price
but the main factor is the limited supply just like gold

That's true. As long as it gives that chance of a helping hand for making money I also do not think it matters whether its called investment or some other term is used for it.

You can see that bitcoin prices are fluctuating constantly and I think most investors enter the crypto market just to speculate rather than invest. Investing is for the long-term benefit and development of coin, and speculation is for immediate profit but not for the long term. So I think that at this point we can not say much about the future of bitcoin or the crypto market.

Well as we all know that bitcoin is an investment and we can't imagine that we can stop calling it as an investment. We all know that bitcoin is one of the best investing as of now because of the price that fast to change compare to others that we need to study it first. Bitcoin is the best of the crypto world in term of investment.
