Ethereum is the next to bitcoin interms of popularity in crypto. Eth proven how strong through out the yeae since crypto attached to the digital market. We can say that more buying eth bwcause this is affordable compare to btc which is so expensive in price value. But overall this two is a good investment always.

Selling Bitcoin now for the sake of buying Ethereum is quite a risky adventure. I wouldn't risk it, because we're all sure Bitcoin will survive, but Ethereum... Anyway, I'm not an undertaker to say anything.

Now there are competitors. And in the near future the market may change. Klonechno ETH will not go anywhere anymore, as hundreds of projects are based on it. However, I think in the coming years the EOS and the Waves will be able to catch up. |

The popularity of ETH is not tied to anything, except for the fact that its platform is very much useful for ICOs. Getting or creating smart contract on ethereum platform is much easier that any other platform.
I also got to know that ICOs prefer that, because it makes their work earlier. I could remember coming across a project that used the platform of another coin, but while sending tokens they were done manually. Whereas for it is automatically dine on ethereum's platform even at a go.

If we consider BTC as the main coin, ETH is the main platform.
Many new platforms appears day by day but they cannot easily outperform ETH.
It has a good development team and there will be a major upgrade in January 2019.
