Our consultant has finished the technical review of GMC.  Primary feedback relevant to the community is as follows:

Quote
6.  30 Second Block Target is too fast, it leads to high incidence of Orphan Blocks, and renders GMC highly resource intensive for those wishing to host nodes. I would propose a Block Target of 60 or 90 seconds to remedy this situation.

We questioned this further, and were informed as follows

Quote
Recipients of Transactions usually require a number of Confirmations (blocks found) to be equivalent to several minutes hashing. With a Block Target of 30 seconds, a recipient may require 30-60 confirmations before classing a Transaction as safely received. This equates to 15-30 minutes of hashing on the chain.

A change in Block Target to 60 or 90 seconds would equate to recipients requiring 15 or 8 confirmations respectively, which maintains the 15-30 minutes requirement of hashing on the chain.

Real-time Transactions can only be provided by accepting 0-Confirmations, or by utilizing a trusted payment provider.

Reducing resource consumption (Bandwidth, Memory, CPU) and improving efficiency of Mining is of paramount importance to your future.

We welcome further input on this matter.

This issue can also be resolved by having a "light" GMC client like a web wallet, or electrum like client. Fast transaction speeds is good for a gaming currency.

As we understand it, Transaction speed is not altered.  Confirmation time however is.  If a recipient requires 10 minutes of mining to consider a transaction as safe, then whether that represents 20 blocks or 10 blocks makes no difference to the security or speed of accepting transactions as "confirmed".  It does however reduce the resource consumption of servers, client, bandwidth, memory, and processing, by half.

Light GMC web wallets (trusted payment providers) or Electrum like clients will also be considered as additional steps.

Hey all,

Dr. Bob is a bit under the weather, but he will be back soon. In the mean time, I would like to get the discussion going a bit. Smiley

With gamerscoin going mainstream, we can see a lot of new people interested in the coin and a lot of serious investors helping him out to further develop it. Progressing the coin, it is pretty clear that some people would like to give the coin a clear purpose, and with that a clearer name.

As we're moving toward  a coin that can function as a ingame credit and a general gamecoin, perhaps a more specific name is better.

What do you guys think? Should we for instance go for GaMe Credits (GMC)?

We hope DrBob is feeling well soon, and look forward to his presence in these discussions. I was informed that he was happy to go ahead with an alternative name if it helped GMC, can you confirm this Jonesd?

If so, and if Game Credits is acceptable, we can ask the graphic designer to start submitting proposals for new branding.

Today GameCredits.net and GameCredits.co will be bought for the project. These domains will be transferred to the GMC Foundation when it is established.

Yesterday a letter was sent to medium to large mobile game development companies to gather interest and requirements. Some responded positively, and some looked to gather more information first.

It is clear from responses that an informative website describing the benefits of GMC for use in games, along with technical information on usage, is required.

Just love the idea of keeping GMC in Game Credit! Smiley Even more, the name speaks for itself. Can't wait to see the graphical solutions for rebranded GMC.
If i get time i'll make a few designs myself.

I don't think your KGW difficulty algorithm is working correctly, I would check it given network hash rate and mining pace

I believe network and difficulty update corresponding to different block counts. The network hash rate may be calculated from the last 100 blocks for instance, and the diff from the last 10. DrBob will confirm this.

DrBob, the developer, is currently ill, I have passed on your details and he will respond when he is available. The DNS seeder will not be utilized until the code is next updated, which will be after it is branded as Game Credits. I am sure he will be in contact with you before then.

Dear GMC Community;

It brings me great joy to inform you that EMC2, with the help of the GMC community, has successfully reached our crowdfunding
goal for the Havekes project -- you helped fund science success, [[THANK YOU!! ]]

From the looks of things by the end of the campaign (Jan/31) it will have exceeded the goal.  I conveyed the news to
Dr. Havekes who was sincerely appreciative of all of the work that went into the effort and particularly the abundant
sponsorships that pulled the campaign though.

Thanks again for your participation.

feeling that game credits is a good idea as it removes the GMC system from the "coin" frame of mind. this is not a coin, none of the coins are coins, each are unique in their own right as something beyond normal language and economic analysis . the word credits will likely benefit the dynamics being built by GMC developers.
