Here's my solution to the uneven contact of the heatsink for thermal bliss. I simply used a dremel and a standard cutoff wheel and cut out a small section where those two offending components are. The cut is about 3/4 the thickness of the cutoff wheel. Now the base of the heatsink comes in complete contact with all 5 GC3355 chips, and the other two components make contact with the space I cut out. I applied Arctic Silver Ceramique that I had on hand to the GC3355 chips, and a thermal pad for the other two components. ![](https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=http%3A%2F%2Fi61.tinypic.com%2Fsenh5h.jpg&t=663&c=pBoUiEb_7shSbQ) I realize that it most likely didn't NEED this done....but why not? It should have come from the manufacturer designed right in the first place. Good job, buddy...! I was too lazy to grab the Dremel in my garage...just bought some XBox shims...it is easier IMHO... Edit...: in my experience it is NEEDED... 0 (zero) HW errors after thermal mod...stock to 1000MHz ... or Volt Mod... to 1150MHz... Everybody is free to do it or not...@ his own risk... ![Wink](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/wink.gif) ZiG

Nice solution nst6563, I've a milling machine so I can easily make a precise groove in the heatsink ![Grin](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/grin.gif) I'm almost sure that the oscillator don't need cooling but I'm usure about the U20 6pin chip since I didn't found the datasheet. Probably simplest way is to briefly turn on the gridseed touch the chip and see if it run hot...if remain cool I'll mill all the heatsinks ![Grin](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/grin.gif)

when i opened my miners i noticed that even some of the capacitors are a little bit higher than these chips. as these components are located on different sides milling need to be done in more places in my case, maybe in 2-3. i think i'll skip that and just use 5 thicker 2mm pads. the original pad is a real shitty one.. here's one sample how components may be touched with heatsink: https://i.imgur.com/D9uyjjP.jpg

Would something like this work? http://goo.gl/Ri1ooyI have several units that were tightened enough from the factory to rip the thermal pad and that in turn is causing HW errors.

I have used the Phobya pads in the past on GPU's and they worked well. In order to do all the 20 of my units I am going to need a fair amount of pads. How many units can you cover with one of the Fujipoly sheets?

Hey guys,... If you take the time to read my original posts...you will find that I am using also copper (XBox or RAM style) shims...cheap @ Amazon or E-bay...they are filling the gaps ...and thermals too...no Dremel... ![Wink](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/wink.gif) Your mileage may vary...Decide for yourself... If you need thicker...1.5mm is $7.49 ...will cover about 5 Gridseeds ... 5 chips each ...TOP ONLY ...bottom is flat enough IMHO ...Th. Paste will do... Copper shims are useful for really BAD GAPS...like 1 in 10 miners ...$0.15 a piece... Whatever works for you, buddy... ZiG

Hi Guys,
I am not sure what I am doing wrong, I have downloaded cgminer OC version
and followed the steps for cgminer, which worked with 1 Gridseed Installed Zadig plugged in 1 gridseed to test and and then replaced the driver to WinUSB (v6.1.7600.16385)
Ran the BATCH file
cgminer.exe --scrypt -o stratum+tcp: ETC ETC ETC ETC --failover-only BLAH BLAH yougetthepoint --gridseed-options=baud=115200,freq=888,chips=5 --hotplug 0
pause
and it started to work which made me happy although:
1st problem: I started to play with the frequency by changing the batch file saving then closing and re-opening cgminer, for some weird reason when I close and re-run the batch file it doesn't detect the gridseed, its like I have to unplug the USB connector and re-plug it back on and THEN restart cgminer and it will then pick up the Gridseed.
2nd Problem: I started to plug in more devices , for eg: I plugged in another 1 and then I realized it automatically went to WinUSB (v6.1.7600.16385) by itself no need to re-do it again, while I was doing this cgminer was still running with the 1st gridseed all of a sudden I got an error libUSB error and its like cgminer lost connection with the gridseed. Now when I run cgminer it doesnt pick up any gridseeds, I checked Device manager and all 3 are under USB - showing as >> STM32 virtual com port which seems correct after what I read.. I looked in Zadig and all 3 are there with the same version WinUSB but something I thought may not be right , I looked at the USB ID in Zadig and all 3 have the same ID 0483 5740
Please help guys I don't know what I am doing wrong
does the batch file need to change or something, I did not see this is any of the guides It just said run the same batch that I posted above
PS: I even sometimes get a CGMINER is going to close error when I have been trying things and re-running the batch file, then the 2nd time I run it it wont close but still doesn't find any gridseeds
EDIT: Seems I found a bandaid solution , So I changed the Hotplug to 5 and then opened cgminer, and started plugging them in one by one. Seriously is this the only way with CGMINER, i am very surprised no one has fixed or modified cgminer to solve this. I am curious why the instructions say Hotplug 0 and why isnt this fix in any guide, I happen to accidentally stumble across a thread where someone was having the same issue as me

I have compared Bfgminer with Cgminer using gridseeds. It's interesting how both behave with p2pool:
Bfgminer seems to have a higher total hashrate, but the rejectrate is about 8%. This is normal for p2pool. Cgminer's total hashrate is a bit lower, but the rejectrate is extreme low, about 1%. That's very nice.
Unfortunately, cgminer crashes every now and then while bfgminer is rocksolid.

Same for me CPUminer has been the best for me, no reboots needed, no errors, perfectly stable. I Tried BFG, was a mess..

Anyone tried using this version of cpuminer?: https://github.com/siklon/usb-miner/tree/master/software/cpuminerIt has auto frequency tuning per chip as used in LightningAsic Gridseed Controller Firmware V3.
