True, theres only really a handful of worthwhile altcoins, top of the pack is darkcoin.
The fact so many people resort to bad attempts at defacing it because they want their shitcoin to rise just shows how much of a threat it is.

Darkcoin will be pumped at the moment like Vertcoin or Auroracoin in the past. So you can imagine what will happen to Darkcoin in the nearer future. I guess the value goes down like the value of Auroracoin - from the top 3 down to top 42 (atm) !

If you like loosing money then invest in Darkcoin 

If you are looking for something big with an estimated stable position in the top 10 then invest in NEM or NXT as the two estimated big players in 2014.
You can also have a look on EXO. I guess Exo could be big as well.

DRK for 2014 so far, I think, the best investment, but there would be much need for privicy? From the PoS coins does interest me the most EnergyCoin. I also very much Funds added to almost nothing. Following the issuance I see good future in green investments and ENRG can keep playing a chief role, not only in my mind.

Few comments regarding DRK.
Anyone who truly believes that what happened with Darkcoin launch was a "mistake" or "accident" deserves the award for being naive.
It was well planned and executed by developer, who now probably has complete control over this coin.

But just maybe - Its not too bad that dev controls the coin? Lets suppose that he will just gradually sell hes stake and will be a multimillionaire soon. Perhaps he desires even higher price and only sells when he needs some money. Price rise will give him more motivation to work hard and perhaps even take on Litecoin market cap some day.
Lets just hope that he doesnt get bored or stuck in hes development which results with massive dump and clear death for the coin.

From someone who has created a coin (rather than purely cloning one), I can tell you it is not easy to work with the protocol.  I can easily imagine a situation where the coin formula was messed up.  In fact, I know dogecoin will eventually run into integer issues.  Also, max coin in the protocol does not actually mean max coin in circulation.  There are many issues to deal with.  I can easily see a new developer getting caught out.  

Also, let's not forget the Devs were actively trying to buy their own coin in the early days. Now, if they actually had 2 million coins from day one, why would they do that?!?  Anyway, I can understand the general scepticism but from what I can tell, the Darkcoin Decentralised Privacy innovations are genuine. Darkcoin deserves to be valued above litecoin, which offers zero privacy.

There was nothing confusing or difficult about it. Its just simple numbers which could have been easily tested before launch. Compiling the client and testing if your PoW formulas work, takes less than an hour even if you are slow. Anyone with a slightest idea would not mess things up like that.

I also understand that none of this can be proven to be facts until they make a mistake. This will probably not happen since they know perfectly well how to play this "game of coins".

kergekoin, I can tell u that darkcoin's block reward was not straightforward as it was inversely related to difficulty based on Moore's law. This meant they could not test very high difficulty. Moreover, Evan has stated the facts in an open letter. I don't think he would do this if it wasn't true. He is the lead dev and lying at this stage would harm darkcoin more than help.

All right. I agree that we look at this situation from entrirely different angles. I do not belive for a second that mistakes were made. Nothing Evan says can prove hes innocence and nothing i say can prove that hes guilty.  Whats done is done. Now its too late to restart anyway. As well I fail to see how anyone new could get rich from Nxt.  NxT already has a bad infamous reputation over its' distribution and that's not something which will go away.

If I hypothetically put in $1000 into NxT today - I have to wait for NxT to later be worth $50 billion just to see a return of $1 million, which has a fat chance of ever happening since people don't want to throw money at what is essentially a "get quick rich scheme" for the whales.

The answer is simple. Litecoin has more value because its widely spread and has good usability as payment instrument.
DRK is still just a big hype for now. It needs time to mature.
Besides, Darkcoin and darksend has its flaws and drawbacks which may lead in to its death some day.
