I ran across this coin in the course of research. It's growth has been quite impressive. Where most coins got a surge from the influx of newcomers, then started to trend downward, this has continued to grow, so I came to see what's responsible for this continued growth and now I'm just confused...

While the premise is nice, the marketing, website and complete lack of documentation regarding funding of scientific pursuits (who have received grants and for how much) along with successful double spend attack and the internet sissy fight between what to be EMC2 and some dude named Michael in the thread makes this project seem unprofessional and scammy. I'm not saying it IS scammy by any means, it just appears to be more of a nice way for the owner to get some $$$ when there's no documentation of investment into scientific pursuits of others. Particularly when I read "grants" in the explanation. In the end, you could simply create shell co's, "invest" in those companies, then say that they never produced results. There's also no stipulation regarding what scientific field(s) you are interested in funding. These seem like the basics for a foundation that's actively funding. Most organizations like this also have a ton of blog entries about the companies they're funding and updates on progress.

Additionally, I'm confused about the forking discussion... Is this happening? If so, then why? Will there be documentation of any companies funded and how much funding they're receiving? I expected to find this in the "science blog" section on your site ( https://www.emc2.foundation/science-blog/ ) but as you can see, it's just pictures of people at some science rally... One post, reposting pictures.

I'd love to invest long term in projects that are beneficial, but until the above things happen, I'm probably just going to daytrade the shit out of this coin until it ceases to be profitable, but as it stands I don't feel like it's a coin I want to have a balance of for more than 24 hours at a time.

About funded projects:
The original team funded 2 projects for a total amount of 3300$
The current team only funded projects was Dr.Havekes project:
https://www.emc2.foundation/past-campaign/

No forking will happen

Right now, no project are being funded. We are working on the creation of a new platform and new way to use EMC2
The future projects funded will be well documented, with the crowdfunding platform

You do want you want with you money, if you really want to invest in a coin. Read more than the last 3 pages of a thread

Dude here...

As I realised, there is a lot of confusion around, not only here, about the recent talks about forks. I think I need to explain a little....

First of all, "fork" is used for different processes, here we are talking about two different things: forking code and forking a blockchain. In terms of software sources we are referring to GitHub's procedure of forking, means duplicating an open source repository and modifying, enhancing,... this on the created duplicate, the so called fork.

Then "fork" is used to describe the change of the consensus inside a blockchain. Basically there are two major kinds of forks, so called soft forks and the more "dangerous" hard forks. A soft fork is done in a way so that the new blocks are compatible with older wallets while a hard fork would require the upgrade of the whole network. The terminology is misleading somehow, a fork does not necessarily mean a split of the chain in this environment.

So regarding the EMC2 chain, we were actually talking all kinds of forks recently. To clean up a little bit:

Code fork: I think the whole team agrees that the codebase we are going to work from now and in future shall be a fork of Litecoin. In fact the original one was forked from there as well, but for some reason the "link" to the original LTC repository was removed which made it incredibly difficult to re-establish the direct connection between the two codebases. It was done though, this will make future updates - I don't want to say a piece of cake, but much easier.

Soft fork: They are applied from time to time to blockchains, so did Bitcoin, so did Litecoin. Now the latest releases are a few "forks" ahead of the EMC2 chain, they include security updates as well as new features like timed multisignature transactions. We are in the lucky position to be able to apply all those soft forks within one single update, that is one of the advantages that the nodes have been more or less untouched since the initial deployment. So, if you like, there will be forks, users are going to be provided with new wallets which they can use if they wish to benefit from the enhancements and new features, old ones will continue to work though.

Hard fork: This was a topic I was throwing in at  some, which I have to admit, improper moment because now it seems this rang some alarm bells and scared off people who didn't follow the opera closely (understandable in the aftermath, I'm also not watching Brazilian Telenovelas). The intention behind this was or still is, that I want to include the community in discussions about the long-term future of the coin as early as possible. I'm living in a SIX-SIGMA world, the basic moral of this is, the earlier possible problems can be identified and targeted, the lower the overall costs to do so. A hard fork is not going to happen soon, best case never in future because we have other solutions for situations which might occur one day. But I used this as a point of entry for the think tanks kinda "what would one make better if the coin was just about to launch".

Hope this helps to clear up the fog a little, it was too much mixed-up information recently.

Hello, I managed to find this thread regarding the on-going double spend attack on Bittrex. How soon does this issue tend to get resolved on Bittrex? As I skimmed through a previous occurrence where this happened about a week ago and it seemed to be resolved after some time? Thanks!

Just a few days into our proposal, we are convinced it will will get accepted. It took a while because it's not a hot fix, not a bug fix, it's a leap for our coin. Just stay tuned for a few days.

When will we finally have a wallet that doesn't get blocked by various antivirus? I have to still use the 2014 wallet since the newer ones give me problems...

Years ago I had a ton of EMC2 on Mintpal, which then was either hacked or the owners stole everything and all coins were gone. Now those coins (in the hundreds of thousands) would be extremely valuable. Does anyone know anything about Mintpal's fate? (and the stolen coins fate)?

As far as I remember the guy got convicted not for this one but for rape... There was a thread around here for this scam

Finished my coffeeshopping tour of Netherland, and I can report they have the best grounds in the world there Wink

Could not attend the Belgrade meet as I was moving country again with 60kg of stuff, including 27kg of PC machinery.

Lets get to work then ...

Also, as it happens, I may go for a job in PCB manufacturing. The ideas guy, which sounds interesting as ... well ... how hard can it be to make some crypto mining chips after all? Cheesy

Some time ago, over a year now, I was approached by some Danish (I think) crypto dudes about new modular mining chips they designed. Now I finally have something to link that to, let's see.
