Scrypt asics are coming, no doubt. I realize they probably won't push GPU mining out of the picture for many months still, BUT, I think eventually scrypt asics will make GPU mining unprofitable. My question is, which coin will GPU miners switch to? What's your best guess? It looks like VERT, but I know there are more knowledgeable people than me on this board and I would appreciate some opinions. Thanks!

Vert seems like the only scrypt coin out there that isn't a rebranded litecoin.

It will only by GPU minable for a few n factors then it becomes a CPU miner only.

Trust me scrypt ASICs will not have that much of an impact.

The first BTC ASICs were 500000 time more profitable than GPUs (KHs per $).  Scrypt ASICs are only 2 times more profitable than GPUs at best.  So the impact will be negligible.

If you're looking for a new coin that implemented N factor like Vert, check out ThorCoin. Personally I like it more than Vert because I love my POS coins.

there will not ever be a scrypt asic,

just go to coinwarz and look at ever declining price trend of every scrypt coin and the vanishing volume in cryptsy. scrypt asic cannot cover its cost.

let asics come they are a good thing. in some ways....there will still be scrypt jane, scryptn  etc.

However once people invest in asics... they are investing in crypto ... the only way out is to get others in.

i know, i'm not saying asics are a bad thing. i just know they might render gpu mining useless, so i want to figure out what the general consensus is on where gpu mining is heading if scrypt asics have a big enough impact. i think scrypt asics will actually be good for the alt coin community.

There is also EXEcoin that uses scrypt-n. A really cool coin that needs a few exchanges.

this is what i was kind of worried about, no clear direction which way gpu miners will go.

from what i've read, all people pushed out of btc mining went to ltc and latched onto it. now it's the clear #2 coin. what will be #3? will there be a clear #3 coin? i guess i'll stick with vert until i see something better.

This thing is getting me worried too. Has anyone else noticed the declining profitbility of scrypt coins even though difficulty has more or less remained the same?
Take doge for example. It should be at around 250 sat atleast but its actually hovering at 150.

They will mine VertCoin and its clones probably (UltraCoin,Execoin). Many people will stick to LTC however just as they did with BTC.

yes, so many get rich quick scam coins popping up almost everyday. all these coins are premined and when it worth a few millions then creator start to dump. creating crypto coin is the easy money scam ever.

They will, indeed, have an impact.  But not because of the ASICs themselves.  It will be because of peoples' perceptions.

There are people who seem to desperately want ASICs to arrive, thinking that they will have the same impact as ASICs for bitcoin.  They will buy the ASICs without doing the math.

There are also people who desperately do not want ASICs to arrive, thinking that they will have the same impact as ASICs for bitcoin.  They will switch coins thinking their profits are going to get ruined from ASICs.

Ah,
Dude script asics arrive weeks ago, maybe even a month.
Didn't you notice multipools hash rate go nuts?
Its had a huge impact on alt coins in general and their prices (pillaged)
I bet there is a lot of gridseed owners out there happy with the results though
