Umm it doesnt brick anything by changing the control file to the s9 from s9i. Thats exactly what I did and I have it running on multiple early batch S9s without an issue.

Well you may be lucky in that case. After flashing mine there was no IP access. No DHCP was assigned and also did an ip scan and did not find an ip i couldn't account for in the leases

Latest firmware working flawlessly. One thing I can't seem to find is the current fan speed or the ability to set it.

Am I just blind or is it not an option right now.

So going through all the miners one by one, checking them before moving on, I have now stopped at one machine which I can only assume has a temperature reading bug because all chains are set to 550Mhz and temps on all chains are reading abnormally high whereas on the BM firmware at 625Mhz they were around 77C

x5 S9i's pumping out 16TH under 1700watts each ... gitty up. Love that you can mix the voltages per chain

Can anyone please explain how to install Braiins OS from a windows machine? Unfortunately, I do not have any Linux machines onsite.

I have the ubuntu app on my win 10 machine in the hopes of learning more about Linux but am a complete newb i must confess.

I only had a few SD cards so some of them are running Braiins but would like to upload to the controller since its all good on the first 6.

What are your chip temps at these levels?

Um....maybe I ran something wrong, but, when you put those values into a calculator your profitability drops by 30%.  Huh

why can't braiins release the fw where we can just flash it with s9 ui? any idea if they will make it easier for us to flash the fw?

With a modified bmminer on the original firmware it was impossible to get over 15.5TH without significant heating issues, I live in Canada so summers are like Arizona desert hot and winters are like the Arctic. Now that its cooler using cgminer and being able to edit each chains voltage individiually i can get 16TH with under volting and wattmeter bounces around 1620-1650watts without the temps breaking over 105 degrees when the climate is now around 50f outside, So previously I tried over 15.5TH with the older bmminer it still overheats, shoots up to 120f then miners shut down. I dont care about the wattage I want to push the miners to the limit and this firmware makes it more efficient with the heat.

Edit: I could get 15.5TH with 8.8volt just had to have very sufficient cooling, but driving up to 16TH would cause it to overheat.

Sheesh, idk what is going on I've been oc'ing stock firmware for my s9 13.5 and I've been able to get it to 17.8th on bitmain psu, 9.1v; 850 clock, and only got to 88* Celsius. I'd hate to see what y'all would get! I'm at 9.0v 800 clock on such and am getting 87* Celsius reading. Idk why such was running hotter

yeah the climate is good here now no overheating issues

One my best efficiency tests was this for an S9i;

15.25 TH/s 8.7 volt 3 chains, 725mhz 98 watts per TH

anything over 725mhz i started to get diminishing returns;

16.22 TH/s 8.8 volts, 775 mhz 102 watts per TH

chains on each miner are different (thanks for the junk Jihan), on another miner i noticed some chains arent pushing as much GH/s as others, but we can tweak the voltage separately. so 2 chains could have 8.8 and then the one lagging behind can be set to 8.9volt and there isn't much difference in watts but the GH/s on the chain starts to keep up with the others

i'll jack them up this weekend with some extra psu's and make 1 bleed lol

I had the same issue. I am assuming a bug.  My temps are reading almost identical to yours and they were much lower before upgrading firmware.  I was coming from the original BraiinsOS firmware.

Hi all.

I could really use some help now.

I have an 8 GB Transcend SD HC card on which I'm trying to get the latest Braiins-OS copied with a Windows 10 machine by following instructions in post #24 in this thread. However it seems I can't get anything to stick to the card.

The computer is an Acer emachines with different integrated card readers and Windows 10 as stated above.

As windows by itself doesn't recognize ext file system i formatted the SD-card with FAT32 file system. Is this ok?

I then followed the instructions in post #24, but afterwards windows shows 7,44 GB free out of 7,44 GB. Can't find any files or folders on the card either. To me it seems that I didn't get anything to stick to the card.

After this I downloaded Etcher and did the same procedure. Everything seems fine during the process, but still 7,44 GB free out of 7,44 GB and not a single file on the SD card afterwards.

And yes. I have noticed the manual lock on the SD card and it was unlocked while I tried to copy the image to the card.

So what am I missing? I'm not very familiar with Linux and don't have a Linux machine available. I would like to install Braiins-OS directly to the miners control board (to get settings to stick through a reboot and to forever get rid of the Bitmain autotune), but with no Linux machine, my knowledge in Linux and with the instructions I can find out there it's a no go. However i thought that it would be a peace of cake to put the SD.img on the SD card and try it out on my January Batch S9 13.5 TH at first. I stand corrected.  Angry Angry Angry

Am I the only Windows user here that can't get this to work? Not many other seems to be complaining.

[...]

Flash a Linux live disc img to that SD card. Boot the live rom and then you can use the instructions. There's no real way to do it, unless you run a virtual machine on windows 10. Use a Linux distribution.

Try using Rufus 3.0 instead of WinDiskImager32 to flash SD card in Windows

so with the boost enable it should have lower hashrate but still efficient? right?

Hi.

Thank you for your answers.

It seems to have been a screw up from my side that caused the problems.   Undecided

When first starting Win32DiskImager for the first time ever without knowing what to do i first pressed the Read-button. It sems like instead of writing the image to the SD card the program wrote an image of the emptiness on the SD card to the HD over the Braiins-OS SD.img. So when then writing the image to the SD card it just wrote the empty image read from the SD card instead of Braiins-OS.

So i just deleted the image, unpacked the braiins-os_am1-s9_2018-10-24-0-9e5687a2.tar.bz2 once more, opened Win32DiskImager again, pressed write instead of read this time and viola!

One more question though. Can i configure the mac-address in uEnv.txt on the SD card directly with notepad++ without screwing anything up? With the same windows 10-machine obviously.

As I'm not living next to my miner it would be nice to have it working before driving to it. As my SD reader is in a desktop computer it isn't a good option to bring the computer with me and do trial and error on place.

I'll give it a go tonight, with or without mac-configuration change, and let you know the results.

Yes, you can just change the MAC address in uEnv.txt with notepad
