I am working on an article about how smart people ended up buying shitcoins – I need some info on why you bought shitcoins (if any). If you choose "other" then can you care to comment on what that other means? Would appreciate if you helped me get an insight!
Thanks in advance.

of course, the hope of all investors is to get profits from investment returns and not become shitcoin. this is a risk of investment or trade, so I don't think anyone wants to buy shitcoin because it is very detrimental

Most often than not, pump and dump work a lot when it comes to buying coins. I have seen many project being hyped when hitting exchanges so as to attract as much as investors. In fact, I have become victims of this as well. In a matter of time, a coin surges 1000 percent in prices, which is a strategy to attract investors. So we traders must understand this trend. A project does not grow and develop overnight. It takes time. So one of the best ideas is research and know crypto trading skills.

Yes not all wants to buy shitcoins because others dont have the cash . what they do is that they only join on some airdrop and bounties to be able to get their hands on those babies  . all of us only wants to earn a profit and thats why we dont really care if the coins that we will buy or obtain is a shitcoin or not . some dont want shitcoin because they think that these type of coins arent going to pump but they didnt know that most shitcoins are pump and dump in which the value can jump 5 or more times vs the legit coins.

After reading their whitepaper and saw what they were trying to achieve, the funds they have raised so far and the team, I just bought their tokens and it later turned shit as they failed to keep to their promises. Greed by the team killed most of this cryprocurrency projects

It was easy to be taken in by shitcoin projects during the bull market of 2017, because everything was going up. So I think people became complacent and expected the good times to continue, and dismissed critics as spreading FUD. The bull market also gave an avenue for sociopaths to manipulate people, as the Centra team did. I think it was the desire to find the "next bitcoin" that led many people including myself to invest in shitcoins.

Shitcoins are most often distributed in bounty programs. But if people buy them then use it when trading for a short time. Since the price of shitcoina is very dynamic and can fall sharply or rise need to respond quickly.

Shitcoins, I think it's very risky and better for me to invest in top coins. I realize that these Shitcoins have very good potential and if we are lucky and the price of the coin continues to rise. I think the profit generated is quite large.

By dumping all of them in a 99% loss of original investment. Never seen any shitcoin make profits for me. So I rarely choose shitcoins to put my blood money. Be careful if you are a quick cash hunter, cause my worst experience is losing over $2600 in a few hours (yes, only 3-4 hours), the dev disappeared with massive dump. Since then, I never fall in such traps.

Honestly until now I was very selective when I would buy a coin. For me the selection of coins is the main factor that will determine the amount of our profits. I prefer to buy potential coins and clearly the benefits than I have to buy coins that have not been trusted in the market. Usually people who participate in buying shit coins because they are tempted by the issue spread about the coin. They did not analyze the coins they bought so that they were hypnotized about the number of people who supported the coins in the market even though the coins were not necessarily potential.
Ehitcoins are worthless and pure waste but we can only know they're shitcoins from hindsight, not when we are buying them. Otherwise, who would make such an investment choice of buying shits. I wonder if traders consider Dogecoin and Ripple as shitcoins because that's what they are to me. And i have been bag holding doge since 2017 in expectation that it might rise. But that seems an utopia now.

I think Doge and Ripple are not shitcoin. They have of course value. Shitcoin in my opinion is a coin where the coin is worthless and there is no development of course. That's what I think shitcoin can say. But for Ripple and Doge certainly has the value and potential to grow even higher.

Mostly shit coins coming from bounties and I'm not to thinking that Doge and Ripple will turn into shit coins. Maybe we could say that Doge never looks progressive this days but still belong into the potential coins. And I do believe that Doge team will take a move to make help for its recovery..

in my opinion, in a market situation like this it is still unclear in a situation like this because the sum of coins is still stable since the beginning of this year and there has been a substantial increase.

People actually end up buying shit coins when they just shift their focus on just the prices of shit coins within a specific time frame. Shit coins usually have the tendency of having a pump on their market value to about 400% of their initial value. This kinda pump attract greedy investors in the crypto ecosystem and they end up buying and owning shit coins.

I think pump and dump scheme can trapping peoples to buying the coins.
Earlier peoples will have a profit by selling it to the newer peoples who want to buy the coins.
But the newest peoples who bought the coin, will have to holding it unless they want to sell it with loss because there is no buyer after pump and dump.
Well I think bitcoin or Altcoin trading is totally independent of who have bought them earlier and who are coming now. Yes there is a difference of price rates. Surely who have got coins in the earlier stages of crypto development, they have edge over others. But still, market is very opportunist. You can buy anything at any time. Even now, prices of Altcoin are bottom line, so buy now and sell them in their crest time.

When you are crypto investor, and when you are dealing with new projects almost every day you make some mistakes, it`s natural. I stumbled couple times, not a big deal, I just keep on the next one. In crypto there is no time for regret, you just get over it and move forward, if you don`t do that you will most likely end up like some loser.

In several cases the entry point of my investment was not ideal and they lost in value due to the bearish market. Some of them later  turned out to be a scam project  as the team stopped the development. I did not sell after the red flag signs and they won`t ever recover, so even long hodl does not help.

Well the list is long

Refusal to sell at peak
Long term hodling gone wrong
Fomo rushes purchase and token ends up at 1 sat then delisted
And misplaced research findings can also be a factor

You can only make 500% or 1000% profits by investing in shitcoins. Many people buy it because they want to make that profits. It is a gamble if you are lucky then you can get huge profits. Frankly speaking, I have also considered buying shitcoins with a small amount of money the amount if i lose wouldn't be a problem for me.

I buy some shitcoins because I hope that I can earn on lambo in this way. Of course, I can expect failure, but I believe that if you don't try, you'll never know. On the other hand, not all coins with low shitcoin volatility, just investors attention is focused on popular cryptocurrencies.
