That's not the right mindset if you want to get as much money as possible. For professional traders bear or bull market is the place to make profits. However, margin trading (short/long) is very risky and prone to 'manipulation', especially when we have futures market that doesn't get backed by real Bitcoin. I'd not recommend any newbies or people who lack trading knowledge to do that. You can lose all of your money for a simple mistake.

Well believe and the reality can be different, maybe if you are a long term holders then you don't need to worry about this dropping, but if you are a day trader then it really affect your analysis, I think its too risky to do shorting in btc, the price is very unpredictable, you may think that maybe people will sell their coins for holiday but if one of big whales suddenly pump then you can predict the wrong outcome

Actually you can short the market, that is what most of the institutions did with bitcoin a year ago when it touched $20,000, they shorted it, and they are now on huge gains.
But there is no sense to short now, you will lose money.

The 7% price drop over the last 24 hours is normal when we look from the outside but there are those who earn 5% per annum which is equal to millions of dollars. Also if you try leverage trading, you understand that this is not a small number.

shorting is just a form of trading ,When you feel like the market is going to drop you sell your holdings and wait for a certain entry to buy back . that way if yhe market goes up again you will profit although the price could be the same as the one you sold at .
The opposite of this is going long ,When you buy and wait for the prices to go up. This is good when the momentum of the market is bullish and could make you way more money then shorting.

In that case you have to find cash settled platforms. The pros and more experienced investors have platforms such as CBOE and CME to work with, while the more average retailers use platforms as Robinhood and eToro. I'm sure there are a few more, but most of them are unregulated platforms you definitely don't want to deal with.

I like to work with Bitmex because it allows you to settle your contracts in BTC against the US dollar, and have your contracts pay out in BTC, regardless of what coin on their platform you long or short. The advantage of not dealing with fiat on Bitmex is that you aren't subject to ridiculous KYC/AML measures you otherwise would be.

Yes its possible with cryptocurrency but you must know how to execute this one because shorting is really risky and your profit is not guaranteed. Most of the traders now are doing this, but not all of them succeed on this one so better to study first before you so this strategy. If you can’t handle the stress of trading go for long term investing, as I can see you don’t have enough experience in trading.

I only use BitMex so far, and I think it's the best leverage website. I remember trying with OKCoin, but I don't if the site still online or not because after I knew BitMex, I don't use OKCoin again. In BitMex, you can take short or long whenever the price goes, but you need to have an analysis so you won't get much loss. It's not easy to do leverage trading, and my advice is you can use small money for the test, and after you are familiar with the trade, then it's up to you.

We can make money in down trend but if you're scalper there's opportunity to get income using buy fast sell fast method. Most people will use down trend to buy coins for long term period, recovery asset or try another way using coins as basic payment ( courses, on line shop, etc ). Why it is not a right mindset ? Believing in to bitcoin and its future is not a right mindset even we are looking for making much money as possible ? Active trading is one kind where people are able to make money but believing in to the future's of bitcoin and simply holding is another way of trading still there will be no differences in their intentions. Both the people are looking to make as much money as they are able to.

I am also supporting to go for both way of trading, shorting and longing. But, I recommend only holding which is NOT possible with shorting. I believe holders will be making more money than active traders. You sound like you do not know the basics of trading. Just go reading few of above discussions then you will come to know that how to make use of declining market also for making profits. Yes, anyone will be able to make profits when prices are dropping by using stablecoins. Almost all the exchanges are now a days having stablecoins to trade against bitcoins and any major altcoins.

Have you tried the way of trading like buying when market is bouncing after a deep fall-down ? If you have tried that then I guess you will not find doing that difficult as it would be a easier way to make profits. For example, when the bitcoin market was falling up to $3200 levels, if you have bought then you may get profits until prices testing $4050. This is one simple way to make profits when prices are dropping. It is kind of buying at dips and then selling without opt for holding.

According to my long experience in the investment field, no strategy is the best strategy. The strategy is only best when it is created by yourself with your own rules.

I think you're pertaining to shorting with leveraging. You have to do some more research in leveraging that you can find in google or youtube videos. Shorting is just like the normal trading and they formally call it long trading.

In cryptocurrencies the market allowed you to covert your holding to either USD or gbp and that makes it not to be much different from stocks or forex trading.  When bitcoin is crashing, it means is been traded against something and if you really want to makes money then the best thing to do is to hold those USD against bitcoin.  If you are holding bitcoin and the price is going down you should covert it to USD or usdt and when it has gone down enough then you buy bitcoin back and by then your bitcoin increased and when bitcoin appropriate up again you then sell it to dollar.

Of course there can be money made while the market is going down. When a coin is in a downtrend it does not go straight down. There will be some small 0.5-2% bounces back up during the downtrend. There are some exchanges that allow you to do that but it is difficult to make money that way, have you even mastered making money when the price goes up? If not then it is better to leave shorting alone and to not do it until you learn how to make money like most people do here, you do not mention this in your post but avoiding using leverage is also very important if you are a newbie trader.

Well, for me, I just try to exploit on some loopholes that I see. For example, if there are good coins that are falling in value at one point but has a good chance of climbing back up some time in the near future, I usually invest in them and buy some good amount of it while the value is low. At least, that way, I could get to have a stack of those coins in preparation for the time when its value increases again. If you plan on shorting anything, consider taking a financial markets class and an economics class online. Otherwise it's a total shot in the dark. Even among the top financial players there's winners and losers.

Yes only by shorting we can earn profit from Bitcoin drop,  and that actually more risky trading because of leverage  but we can minimize  the risk by use low leverage and use stop loss.  But for now that the price already oversold is not good idea to short because Bitcoin has more potential  to rise.

A tough job for anyone who risk their money in here. It is hard to be profitable at this time and it hardly to analyze the market flows that's everything's seems to be unpredictable one.

Yes, shorting is a good solution in all market conditions. Even though the price of BTC is low, it still fluctuates every week. We only need to know how to stop-loss exactly, we will be more secure in trading to make money.

But I think if you are a trader, then it seems like when the market goes up or down you can still take advantage of the opportunities that exist to generate profits from any fluctuations that happen.

Even I crypto you can short your bet while your technical analysis says that the market will bearish. Bitmex is one awesome platform that I like to short my bets. You can both long and short your bets. Its easy to use.

You can make money from the price dropping as well. Its not similar to the trading people traditionally do. Its basically a type of gambling to predict the next market movement direction known in a more fancy way called Margin Trading. The biggest thing happening in last year was the emergence of bitcoin futures and people became crazy putting their money in this market of margin trading. Its very risky and not similar to spot trading that we generally do.

I would not suggest people to do Margin trading rather hold your coins for future bullrun if you are willing to exit.

The only thing i know profitable when the market is declined is the buy low sell high type of trading. Sorry but im quite confused about how you make profit while the market is consecutively dropping. Isnt that means more negative on your part? All we want is a green market and that is all we know we can make profit.

actually, while the market for bitcoin was down it doesn't means more negative in the mind of others. Yes it is true when the market is green there is a big chances for us to earn. Moreover, even the market was declined now we can still get profit in it, by simply buying those coins which are cheap by now then hold em. Because for sure it will get increase in the future just be patience for awhile.

I prefer to do trading in stocks markets than doing margin trading in Bitcoin because the risk in spot trading of stocks market is less than margin trading in Bitcoin. I dont want take too much risk in margin trading because more possible lossing money.
