Besides making sure not to download the wrong programs that can be fake programs like fake wallets and not clicking on links, what other important things should you do to protect your computer? Yes i know you should not put crypto in it but even those who have hardware wallets, some coins cannot be put in the hardware wallet and you need to put it on its own wallet you install or in an exchange.
First off, does everyone here put a password on their computer? I read the windows password is completely useless. But does anyone here use veracrypt or a program where you must enter a password on your computer before you can log in? Because i read cases where a hacker if they have access to your laptop can put a virus, trojan, keylogger in your computer... then shut down your computer and if you never knew someone accessed your computer, well anything you type on it can be visible to the hacker. Of course this requires someone smart to have physical access to your laptop. Thus if they take your laptop, well even if they put a trojan on it, well as long as you don't type your stuff on it, thats fine.
Can someone tell me what program they use to password protect their laptop? I do not do this as i heard this process is not that simple. I heard there is either veracrypt or bitlocker. Are those the only 2 options or best 2 options? If so, which do you choose and with it, does that mean a thief with access to your laptop cannot get into your laptop and store anything in it like trojan unless they have the password? Because say someone installed a trojan in your laptop while you are not there for a bit... let say its just a friend who did it b/c they know you have crypto... that is dangerous. Any advice here?

I don't have such demand in this respect, I can't said that which one is better because I just use the default windows password, but look like you're a person focus on safety of computer, you're correct that hardware wallet don't support all the cryptocurrency, my suggestion is you may use vmware to install unknown wallet, don't click any unknown link from email. From your friends side, look like you've a friends is expert on computer, they may use software to bypass windows password (I've tried before, bypass password is not too hard), so be careful.

There are many gimmicks by online scammers and fraudsters these days especially phishing links and emails some go to next level and use spyware and malware to collect private data that can also damage the device of the user so definitely we need to be vigilant online and we should have updated security in our devices to avoid damaging files.

This is very hard to completely safe from the hackers while you are working on the internet always. The hackers are spending their mind in different ways of how they can steal your computer by fishing and the input of expertise. They are very prompt on the compute by software and hardware. So, you should protect your coin by putting it in a hardware wallet. Time to time you need to format your computer and antivirus also.

Now I find that offensive(but not really. lol) that "WE" are not suppose to put our funds on a computer? I have been into cryptocurrency and is using my computer all the time to store my funds and never have I been hacked and I never use any softwares or anti-virus as protection. As long as you know what your are doing like researching about the desktop wallet before installing and making sure you downloaded the wallet from the official link. I only rely to the built in virus scanner of my Chrome Browser and from Windows Defender. I also keep my Windows OS up to date.

As long as you keep your coins in a different computer other than the PC you use for your daily stuff, you will be fine.
Having Adblock, Kaspersky, Malwarebytes is cool. If you don't download too many pirated software, that's even better. Being cautious will keep you safe %99 of the time. If you just keep your important stuff on somewhere else, you'll be safe all the time. (at least against the hackers, viruses etc... Your hardware still can get broken.)

I am using F-Secure anti virus and it has been working well, it is kind of heavy on my laptop processor but still acceptable. Yes i know you should not put crypto in it but even those who have hardware wallets, some coins cannot be put in the hardware wallet and you need to put it on its own wallet you install or in an exchange. Just curious why can’t we store coins in hardware wallet? I have been using and find hardware wallet to be secure.

Buying and installing AVG and anti-malware program is the most basic thing to do in protecting our pc, the rest is up to us. It is up to us whether we can maximize the protection of our pc by educating ourselves of different style of hackers. If we are careless in surfing the net, there is a possibility that our unit will be infected by these trojans. So the ultimate security for our pc is within ourselves.

There's no perfect protection that you can give to your computer. There are various degree of protections and various skills utilised by hackers to bypass your protection. To be on the safe side, it's best to be very careful of the software you download and install in your system. To avoid malware, endeavour to use a good antivirus and always keep your computer software up-to-date.

What can I say on this issue. This is a big problem. Because you need to have a separate computer for scripting. Why you ask? The reason is that using a home computer is simply not suitable. You are constantly looking for information to download something on the Internet as necessary. So to go to your wallets it is better to use a separate fully protected computer.

We know how dangerous it is to safeguard our accounts and wallets in an online ways. So we should be vigilant on where we log and what site we use to secure the safety of our funds. No matter where you log in, may it be in PC or in mobile if you are not making sure that you are not logging in a malware, you will always be hacked. For me, I would suggest to use hardware wallets so you can save your coins offline.

It is nothing new in crypto sphere that hackers are trying their best to earn easy money by gaining access to other's account or wallet by phishing or hacking. That is why as a user it is our responsibility to secure our wallet and computer by protecting all important details by installing necessary software to protect our computer from such activities.

If we are talking about the security of your personal computer, it is necessary to understand that the operating system has nothing to do with it all depends on you, since it is you who install questionable programs and the protection system of your computer will not help here.

Since there is no way your PC can be 100% secure, the best solution will still be that you should use hardware wallets to protect your asset. There are times you might not be able to prevent attacks by malware, because new ones are being developed almost every time. So you just have to keep updating your PC with with anti-malware, which I feel might be strenuous and not effective.

To protect your computer does not even need an antivirus, all that is needed is your attentiveness, and inquisitiveness to the resources that you visit. Your task is to avoid all dubious and always create bookmarks of safe places, it will save you from any threat.

Just don't save your passwords or other confidential data of your wallet in your PC. Store the backups in somewhere safe and different place from your pc or notebook. Using offline device is more secure, or using a device that you use it very rare to avoid getting exposed by viruses.

In my opinion, it would be better if you have an hardware wallet to store your cryptos. This is a better solution since you would know when there is a transaction happening or not because all the operation is executed on the device itself and you will manually open agree whether you accept or not the transaction happening. Since, you always use your PC online everytime you can't refrain yourself from downloading contents you see online.

All i do to prevent me from getting infected by a virus or any other malicious software is, by installing an antivirus, and actively scanning my computer ever several days. and also doing something that you mentioned, that is not to install any suspicious software or accessing untrusted website.

There are lots of ways by which our computer systems can be hijacked through hacking. Some of these things include malware, virus, password licking, and so on. The truth is as one solution is coming out for any vulnerability, another loop hole will be out as well then expert start looking for another solutions to them again and this is how the circle runs. Let's continue to stay protected always and not relent!

My advice is: Dedicating computer or laptop (not mobile devices), that only be used of only limited purposes: - Using your bitcointalk account. - Trading on well known exchanges. - Downloading, installing wallets from well known coins from official websites. - Preparing Internet Security softwares (still have active license key). That's all you need to protect your computers.

Great advice but if you want to be fully secured, don't use internet at all. This is serious, I am planning to have a laptop at least the cheapest one just to store my coins and never to connect it into any internet connection. Its a must to be wise, we have more reason to protect our wallet so the hackers will never see any chance on touching our precious coins. My advice is to back up everything and use all the security features of the wallet.

Just do this thing: Never visit an unknown website nor downloading any applications from it. Also make use of your bookmark page, to prevent you from visiting the wrong domains.
With just that, you have already prevented unnecessary problems in the future. In fact, staying on your trusted website isnt that bad, as for it has been already tested, the features and its security. No need to take risks.
And if you're still at it, make sure to do a research first before clicking the website.

Yes, it is very important to protect the computer. Because our computer has much important information. We also keep Cryptocurrency stored on our desktop wallet. Now if our computer is not protected, then hackers can hack our computer at any time. So, I think, to keep the computer safe in all cases, a password must be used and check any software before downloading. We also can use Antivirus for computer protection. It is very important to protect the computer nowadays.
Thank you

I believe that a normal anti virus software should protect your computer from any art of fishing attacks or dangerous files. But it is a must to protect your computer, especially in crypto currencies industry where you can catch a virus from telegram even without mentioning it.

Most of the anti virus are nothing,it just can't eve find and remove small virus so you don't have to trust them to save your computer. You need to learn how to stay away from phishing links and use good browser which itself restricts phishing attacks.

Anything can be hacked if a person is not careful enough. And nobody really know what a software do, appart from the creators. No, a computer can't be safe at 100%. But you can protect your computer in hope that the protections are well done and that there is no backdoor. With the internet, it is easier to get a virus on a computer. A smartphone is also not safe as they use softwares and have access to the internet.

One rule of the thumb if you are active in crypto community. Never download a windows based wallet for other altcoins. Majority of them has a trojan installed that silently watching your activities from your other window based wallet. Dont fall for this trap, or else you will find your wallet empty as the hacker will get your private keys.

we can safeguard our wallet so that it does not steal your people especially so many scam sites and scams ico so wallets can be affected or other hackers can hack them so be careful of your competition website or access to non-stolen funds especially to many altcoins with potentially huge value so they make sure their wallet is safe for many hackers who are cluttered and get information to use with others I have seen many who have robbed altcoins on their wallet because they are inaccurate so that hackers access their wallet.

For a better protection of you windows PC you have to follow some easy rules . 1) Always install all security windows and browser updates 2)Do not work under Administrator's profile 3)Never store/save your passwords in browsers / plugins , or somewhere in internet 4)Never install or open any files from untrusted sources , including emails . Adhering to these rules will be enough to provide sufficient protection for your computer, but if there is actually a large amount of money on your crypto wallet, then it makes sense to purchase a hardware wallet for uncompromising security of your funds.

We live in the 21st century and anyone hacker can very easily break your computer if it need be. It does not matter what computer protection systems you use as it is a problem in the case of remote access. A hacker can find out all your passwords and quickly withdraw all funds from your wallets. The best means of protection is a completely cleaned computer from various programs and without access to the Internet. You can keep your cryptocurrency on it and then it will be safe.

I am agree, if we want to protect our coin and token, we should store it to cold wallet or hardwallet. Its more secure because not connected with internet. In this era, we should protect our computer by not clicking suspicious link on our email

Of course, when working with cryptocurrency, the security of my computer is the most important thing. And perhaps this is the first thing you need to think about, otherwise everything that is accumulated and earned can become the prey of hackers. If we talk about a large amount of money,it is best to buy a hardware wallet. It is also best to have a separate computer to work only with the crypt, which will be password protected and have a good anti-virus complex. But still there is no 100% guarantee of safety, the risks remain.

Yes, you can take good steps to keep your computer free/secure from viruses and possible hack by making sure you use the best software which might be a bit expensive but would be great in keeping you secure for long term. Plus, do not download content from insecure websites because at times, you might be hit by a malware and this can damage your data very much so yeah, it is important to keep your computer secure.

I do not recommend anyone to download any wallets. I use the most popular wallets that are in demand with a large number of cryptocurrency community. I don’t want to download new wallets until they pass all the checks and will not be used by many people

Computers can be affected by worms, virus, malware, etc. It's best to use a good anti virus to ensure your computer is not vulnerable. One also needs to be careful of the links you click and website you visit. Malware could be installed into computers without the owners notice.

We all have a responsibility to ensure that our computer is free from viruses and other malware. Hackers infiltration is due to malware which have been installed on the victims computer without his permission or notice. We need to be careful of the emails we access and the links we respond to.

The first layer of course avoid as much unknown softwares installation, like plugins or web extensions, these are the greatest threat that could somehow log data on your browser, otherwise connection issues could be quite unlikely if you are browsing safely on your home WiFi.... Some unusual case like my fren got hacked on an too easy passphrase (combination of words) which are not generated. Hardware wallets are good but not convenient for frequent traders

Threas about safety will always be important and welcome to alert people. Well, I think most people still use Windows, so back up on cold hardwares and keep your operating system running with all the correct updates and protections as well. Well remembered by you in taking care of downloads and access to suspicious links and software. For exchanges, send only what you will trade or invest. Exchange is not wallet and no matter the credibility and situation of it. If you do not have the private key, the coins and tokens are not yours.

Recently, the internet is developing so fast that we meet a new virus every day. Although I am trying to protect my computer and my own documents with some programs, unfortunately, this situation cannot be prevented after a certain point. Especially because I use Windows operating system, I am constantly worried about it and I try to update the programs that I use every day. Although I have taken a lot of security measures, I cannot trust this operating system. The best advice I can give you is to use multiple programs instead of using a single program, because in some cases the only program can be inadequate. It is also useful for you to choose programs that have proven themselves and are popular in this field and are really successful.

I agree that a windows password would not be very helpful because when you download a malware I will be installed on your computer while it I running. I think many people don't take anti-virus programs very seriously even though they are very important. Even a free antivirus it would help you detecting some of the viruses.

The latest type of harmful software doesn't take the virus mode for stealing personal data. Black hat hackers use the malware based on the cache of browser and browser extensions. Better to buy lifetime subscriptions from known big data protection software sites.

I don’t think there is any need to go as far as using such software of your system because once you have a very strong paid antivirus and anti-phishing system, you will hardly see any phishing website gain access to your system or better still buy an apple laptop, all those control measures are already in place.
One thing I have also realized why some of this phishing sites gain access to our system despite the anti-phishing or anti-virus software we use, when these software gives a warning sign, the laptop user still end up forcing the application on the system or force the site to open based on our assumption that it’s safe. We also need to learn to use password that will take decades for hacker to hack.

So, if we can do without some of these sites, the best is to activate an ad blocker on our computer that will instantly block any form of ad trying to pop out through these sites, we also need to have a very effective antivirus software on our system. For me, I have been using 360 total securities, not the free version but the one I paid for.

Go back in time and you will be protected. It doesnt even need a password. Just a pen and a paper and all is set. Do not keep anything important in your computer or your smart phone (they are not really smart).
Regarding anti-virus, I do not use any. Those who creates those antiviruses are the ones who creates the virus themselves.
Make it simple. Or if you are too lazy to write in a pen then put it in a flash drive then delete it from your computer. Your password wont protect you.

If you are really serious about protecting your coins that are stored in your personal computer then you need to leave Windows behind and begin to use Linux, there is simply no other way, the Windows operative system is simply to insecure to store any meaningful amount of money, so you need to download your favourite Linux distribution, verify that everything is correct and then install it and if possible try to avoid connecting that computer to the Internet so the chances of getting hacked remotely are low.

In the digital world there is no perfect security and even though we protect our computers from these threats, all will also return to the owner of the device, if the device owner does not maintain or use it whenever your device can be attacked by a virus. So the most important thing is how you wisely use your device to store all the assets you have.

We've never know that if we check it again its already empty. It could only be safe if we store in hardware or offline wallets.

Activate your antivirus, if you're using windows 10 then windows defender is a good choice. Don't forget to turn on the firewall too, because if you're using public wifi, the firewall can protect your network and your computer so be sure to keep this thing on.

Hey mate, hos is it possible not to use your computer online, except you strictly want to be using your pc for office doc, movies and gaming but so long you are engaging yourself in anything that has to do with internet, your computer must always be online, in fact, trading requires that your system is online 24 hrs. So, I don’t think staying offline with a PC is possible for anyone, the best is just to put all necessary security gadgets in place that will protect the system from external intruders, most especially hackers, we have lots of company that has dedicate their time to seeing that these security gadgets are effective, so best is to protect your system with the genuine ones and keep it updated.

The reason is because if there are any thieves or if someone were to access my laptop and do something with it and then leave it as is and then if i use it, then i might have no idea they installed malware/trojan or anything like that.
Im going to buy a camera on amazon and i notice some reviews, they say the camera is hacked etc. Reviews were like they heard or saw someone viewing their home or apartment with it.
Now if that is the case, does that mean they could view your keystrokes or anything you view on your laptop or anything like that? However, if you are setting it up with only your cell phone which most of these security cameras seem to do, then thats fine? I want to buy a security camera and point it at my door when im not there or even there but one concern is if it gets hacked, could i potentially hack my laptop or something or internet network or hack my wallet? Or make sure you get a security camera where you dont read anything like this in the reviews.

Just as a supplement: I you don't own a hardware-wallet it's still possible to strongly increase the security of your funds by isolating your private-key from the internet and signing your transactions offline. However hardware-wallets are much more convenient and I'd prefer paying 59€ for a Ledger Nano S. Guide for offline-transactions using MEW: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4500372.0Guide for offline-transactions using MyCrypto: https://support.mycrypto.com/offline/making-offline-transaction-on-mycrypto.htmlWell, you are right, but you can just simple purchase a hardware wallet of not mpre that $50, in order to save and help you from losing your hard earned money or your million or even thousand dollars portfolio.

Offline security is the best if you don't believe to offers by online services. I bought special tablet for storing my own coins and i never let it to connect the Internet. Protecting the personal computer is harder than 3 years ago.
If you were going to buy a device to store your coins, wouldn't be better to buy a hardware wallet? Unless you're trying to store coins that are not very well known a hardware wallet is a safer way to store your coins and not only that a hardware wallet can be very cheap especially if we compare it to other options like buying another computer or another smartphone and the best part is that you have a device that was is specifically designed to store your cryptocurrencies in a safe way.

In maintaining the computer or device that you are using it is very important especially to maintain a privacy account so that it is not lost or forgotten. Of course we already know that this device is very susceptible to damage because it is not good enough in treating or because it is basically old. We must be extra careful because all our assets and data are on the computer, we must pass them on to other devices so that all data is safe.

choose that is truly safe and easy to do. Their Ladger and Trezon hardware wallets are good and safe wallets, but maybe if those who have different tastes might be more suitable other so my advice is that you have to be careful and check whether it's really safe or not, because maybe something bad will happen to prevent it from starting now. good choices are in your hands, trust yourself.

I use an antivirus and a malware protector for my computer. My browser is equipped with script blockers and I individually check each script the site is trying to execute and individually allowing or blocking them. I don't have a large amount to be stored in hard wallets, but anything I have is scattered around different exchanges and wallets.

I also have on spare tablet to use for my security and to store good coins like bitcoin but we should not be too confident on this one because it can still be steal by snatchers or even robbery is possible. Its actually hard to secure your wallet, and this is why I have so many back-up of my keys and I have more codes than only myself knows how to break that code.

The most important thing that I need to do is to clean the computer from all sorts of rubbish)) the Laptop is a personal notebook and cryptocurrency storage for many people and therefore you need to treat it with extreme caution. Take care of yourself and your coins!

It is also worth saying that it is always necessary to make backup copies of the most important files and store them in secure encrypted containers where it is the most difficult to get to them.

For now, I didn't even experience to be scammed or hacked when it comes to my own PC having some malwares or any other suspicious virus that do affects by machine. I do just follow the basic behavior to protect yourself into potential threat that would compromise your security.I have antivirus on pc, not clicking any suspicious links, making back-ups incase of troubles. So far I'm still on the safe side.

I use the Linux Ubuntu operating system. This helps me to protect myself from viruses and other unpleasant programs. I can open any sites and letters without fear of getting a virus on my computer. I think that Linux is the best operating system in terms of security. And I am very grateful to its creators!
I was putting linux OS for my raspberry pie to store crypto and that gives me more convenience rather than use any other offline or online wallet. Because it's too rarely to find someone that interested to develop the malware for linux. that's the best solution too and i agree with you

Thank you friends for providing a solution for this.

No matter how hard you try or how often you clean your system, you cannot really stay away from experience some of the rubbish sites that pops out without your authorization as long as your personal laptop is connected to the internet, and since you can’t keep formatting your pc from time to time. The best way will be to still get some of these malware strong tools that will always protect the laptop against all sort of these malware on the internet that may want to have access to your personal information. You know these malware takes advantage of Google advert a lot, and some of the crypto sites you visit have these advert and the moment you go on those sites, you become vulnerable without a good security tools install on the pc.

Another way around this is to at all times have the latest security patches from Microsoft itself. I don't know how it works but Microsoft constantly releases security updates to counter any vulnerability detected in their software. I think by having updated softwares as a whole: in browsers, anti-virus and so on, someone can still reduce or eliminate hacking situations. Hackers are hungry for cryptos. Let's stay safe.

It seems to me that in this regard you need to be very careful and not always follow the trend. If you use one software and you trust it, then maybe you don’t need to install something newer. By the lick there is always, So they should be avoided as soon as possible.

When you are using an advanced operating system and that will not so easy to break your wallet. But if the users have already transferred their amount to the suspicious site and then it's the user's fault dude. That's why we must be careful before doing anything because that's about our amount.

PC is not safe for keeping crypto coins, if you think they are you are wrong, there are too many things to worry about, there are some spyware and malwares that gets your PC infected and it doesn't requires someone to put them on your PC, if you are the type that likes browsing alot you can easily click on bad links, I would advice everyone to use mobile wallets instead or offline paper wallets

it is good if our computer has a protector so that it is always safe when doing activities but there are also those that do not so it depends on the person who uses me alone, I use it because I am afraid my computer is hacked by irresponsible people and for more security I use code that only I know that I can enter it or program on my computer.

Very tricky to deal with this hacking issue especially protecting yourself from the Crypto thieves. It's better to use a hardware wallet like Trezor/Ledger than storing your crypto on a computer. The computer could be safe only if you do not use the internet.

You dont even have to protect your computer, the thing to need to know is you need to make yourself be aware of the most computer viruses.
New viruses are keep evolving so you have to be protected to save from it and also good to know what are the most dangerous viruses and random wares. Installing good anti virus will not be enough we also have avoid entering unsecured websites and phishing sites.

Spywares, malwares,Trojans ,these are the worst enemies of windows pc ,it will be better to keep your coins and tokens on hardware wallets or even mobile wallets with private keys ,on windows pc I don't know how effective antivirus software is and PCs are easily hacked by spyware's this days,I stay off pc I'm better off using mobile
True, spyware, trojans and the like are big enemies because even though they have been updated using anti-virus, but if the virus is embedded it is hard to turn it off. except by carefully examining the services of Windows, Windows Run and regedit every time you first run to minimize trojans, spyware runs. For those of us who are laymen it is really very difficult because of the way that they (hackers) do updates and are more sophisticated so that users are not aware that their PCs have been hacked

We need to be careful in downloading the virus protection to our computer. Sometimes there are lot of anti- malware virus that causing our computer into risk situation. Which is lead our desktop or laptop in dangerous case. So what I did and used for this things was Kaspersky to protect my computer into hacker.

So far I have never had a problem with my wallet or computer security. and my friends are almost all cryptocurrency and we together maintain the privacy of each of us. I also do not use security such as bitlocks or the like because I think cryptocurrency is still in a safe stage. after reading this thread I thought I would start to consider the security of my laptop and start installing security that was more stringent than before. Thanks for this thread.

I have two separate computers. The first one is for personal use. If anything happens to it, like it got malware or virus, I simply wipe the drives and reformat it.
The second one is for crypto and online banking use. This one I only plug into the internet when I use it to transfer coins, make online transactions or update anti-virus and anti-malware. Other than that, it is unplugged or unconnected to the internet. By isolating it to the rest of the world, it is completely safe from hackers and viruses.

If you really want a secure computer install Linux on your computer and put a password on every exploitable hole that you find. And if you have some Bitcoin use a hardware wallet or you can also use an offline computer for your own, in that way you will never gonna get hack. Simple suggestion yet too effective unless someone stole your own PC/Laptop.

if you personally become interested in your otherworldly tournament, then it will be much easier to save all your keys and passwords if you do not make mistakes yourself. But I want to assure you that if someone is interested in your personality, a good character will find opportunities to steal your information.

These issue of viruses is becoming more and more rampant these days and it becoming a little bit scary for me. I really don't know why people will be out to deliberately set up malware's that will do harmony to other people or even trying to steal personal details of other members. Best to to always stay safe and have backups for all files

Yes, you are right. Linux-based operating systems are more protected against the introduction of viruses. I also prefer to work on it. But besides that, I always use my browser in the sandbox. After closing the browser, everything is destroyed to its original state. From phishing sites, you can protect yourself with extensions for Google Chrome. And of course, do not mix work and entertainment. Let there be two computers for different purposes. This is minimal protection that works very effectively.

many airdrops require the download of a proprietary wallet on your computer which is very risky, since you can also install viruses or troians at the same time, if we really want to install something of uncertain origin we must first scan with a good antivirus, as further protection we would add the option to run the programs only with the administrator's permission

This is very essential even in blockchain. Security is very good because we need to secure our asset, apart from that wallet and other stuff need good security because it might be hacked or lose if there is no good security backing up the system. We all know this no need to say much on it

I have experienced that and often. Indeed, I had previously participated in airdrop. And it really must be done to install a wallet. Indeed it is too dangerous for our computers, but I always do that. And by doing that I have often got a virus from nowhere. Therefore I have stopped to do a suspicious installation for the security of my computer going forward.

You can talk a lot about security, but it doesn’t matter what level of security a wallet has if users don’t know how to properly store their private keys.

without using a security like bitlocker windows, you will still be safe, you just have to be careful "to use the program and also in my opinion installing an antivirus that has protection against computers and the internet is important because of that to avoid phishing, rat etc.

There is a lot of software that you can use, the more software, the more complicated, I suggest enough 2, with that the hacker has experienced difficulties. I added some security applications. for example
AxCrypt, this is one of the best tools for encrypting all files in your computer. AxCrypt is the leading open-source encryption software for Windows. This software integrates seamlessly with Windows to compress, encrypt, decrypt, send, and work with files individually.
DiskCryptor, is an open encryption solution that offers encryption of all disk partitions, including system partitions. In fact, openness runs in contrast to the current situation, where most software with comparable functions is actually used to protect confidential data. So try to only protect important data, not need all the data because you will need extra effort

It's simple. Do not store private keys, important passwords on a computer that has access to the network. Yes, maybe this is inconvenient. But it is extremely safe.
yes, this method is very easy, but for now it is also difficult if the computer is not connected to network access because this device is unfortunately not used, because at this time access to the network is more important for the needs of computer devices especially if you only have one computer. the most important thing is if a computer connected to the network in using it and surfing in the virtual world must be careful on sites that they visit so that they are not exposed to viruses from a phishing website.

So far I have always been careful in accessing the computers that I use so as to minimize the risks that occur on my computer, because almost all my passwords are stored on the computer even though I have a backup on other devices but when entering passwords it would be better if we rely copy paste without typing manually. For programs that protect my personal computer, I only rely on premium AV that helps maintain computer health.

It's a misinformation to say that there's no viruses found on Linux. Most of the users are into Windows and MAC so virus creators target mostly those users of two specific OS. But there are existing virus with Linux.

I think there are many recommendations for the security of your laptop. like installing antivirus and internet security. the second is very necessary to anticipate the existence of a torjan virus or that will malwhare. the rest you have to be careful to store your wallet and make a backup in a different place. for example an external or flasdist hardist

Hard wallet would still be the safest of all for now, because it is not vulnerable to any form of security threat, just a little bit expensive to own and manage, I have not really tried using browser wallet, most of the wallets I have used and still using has been desktop wallet. The desktop wallet I have used is one that I have access to my private key which is EXODUS wallet, and has been safer for me ever since I started using it, I only make sure that my passkey to the wallet is a very strong one, that will be difficult for any hacker to hack and at the same time, I still make sure that my pc is well cleaned to avoid monitoring by spam tools.

Nowadays, there are now a lot hackers that could easily access into your account or wallet and steal all of your funds, that is why it would be safer if you use wallets that has great security features and you should also not to download any files in any untrusted websites because i could be a virus or a key for you to get hack easily. In my opinion, using a hardware wallet like ledger is the safest wallet that you can use because you are the only one who can access to it as long you remember your private key and keep your hardware wallet in a safe place. There are also sites like online gambling sites or crypto casino that are not safe or secure to play, that is why you better check those websites too if you are interested to play gambling online. I am also playing in a crypto casino, but i always pick the safe and secure gambling sites that i am convenient to play on. Lastly, don't ever share any of your accounts and passwords, and avoid opening your accounts in a public place because they may see your account and passwords for you to be safe and secure.

Until now, I have never installed the Wallet application on my computer, because I always used wallets on websites, as well as Android applications. If with the first everything is clear, then with the second: Trust in the Play makes the market its choice.

After I read the same thing last month, I want to be more careful in looking after my computer. At least I don't store passwords in computers or files, and it's also not careless to get into trapping sites. Don't do things that aren't right, avoid trying something from unknown sources. Because it is very dangerous for your computer system.

I myself only use antivirus avast to protect my computer, there are no other programs, my advice is that we better download programs that are clear and from well-known webs so that we avoid dangerous viruses

Aside from protecting your computer be sure that you have a plan in your wallets in case that you computer got hacked or got virus because it is very important to have that kind of plan. There are some programs on the internet but it is too risky because it can also give a virus to your computer even more.

It's simple. Do not store private keys, important passwords on a computer that has access to the network. Yes, maybe this is inconvenient. But it is extremely safe.

I recommend using an antivirus program with good reviews such as Avast or Avira. Also, MalwareBytes can be used in conjunction with it. Common sense such as avoiding emails promising free coins or airdrops is also very important. If possible use a Chromebook or Linux to log into websites.
Perhaps most importantly, a hardware wallet is a big, big plus using any operating system.

I always have at least one antivirus and antimalware to protect my computer. Also save all important files and data in your flashdisk, so if your pc got hacked or something bad, your information still save. Stored all your coins in hardwallet is a good choice too, more safety than web wallet or online wallet.

Very well, I think that is still the best way to protect ones’ PC, but we must ensure that the antivirus is one that has all security tools including phishing, because phishing is not a virus and I think this is where most hackers comes through. The antivirus must be able to also protect the computer with all the necessary tools and also keep up to date on new developments, because hackers too works from time to time in breaking though the loop hole of any antivirus by releasing different and stronger viruses to the internet. For password, we should just use a stronger password like you said and stop storing them on our pc, we can just try to cram them.

thats right, but its too complicated i think the best way to keep our computer safe is first do not download unknown applications and second do not click or log in to any phissing link in the internet sometimes somebody sent this phissing link to our email, just ignore it and report it

This is what i am doing. I have an old laptop and i did a reformat. Now only application it has is my wallet. Bookmarked all online web wallet also. I havent experience hack, phishing or malware virus attack since i did that.

Indeed, hard wallet is good option to secure our assets. But if we want protect our computer, we can start from not visiting on suspicous link on our email because right now many link sent to our email. To avoid from wrong web or phising site, better check on web certificate and security.

It's quite different in my point I guess? Having more access to more computer will going to put you into risk rather than to just use one computer or cellphone that will going to be better if you set it as its main function, just to keep your cryptocurrency in a safe location. Since, we are prone to hacks in our personal computer.

I implemented several security systems for my computer. I implemented a dual security system by displaying a confirmation of every important step done by my computer. Besides that, I only use this computer personally. Besides I can't be anyone else who uses my computer so that all the control on my computer is in my hands. I don't apply passwords on my computer but I keep confidential information on my computer in a very confidential manner. In my opinion, passwords in Windows are less useful because they are very likely to be hacked. Hacked windows passwords is very easy. Yeah, indeed an effective way is to use this computer personally.

What other things ppl need to be careful of?
What if you use someones powerbank to charge your phone or tablet? Is that safe or not? Assuming you connect to the usb port on it?
What if its a power bank that could charge a laptop? Thus it either connects to your laptops ac adapter spot which is a hole... or say it was usb-c. I assume the first situation with the ac adapter to the laptop is still possible but very hard? But if it was connected via usb-c ... its much easier?

As long as you're not clicking any suspicious link or phishing site your computer is safe. Just don't click or open the site like http:// or more. but honestly, I bought kaspersky to protect my computer good for 2 years and so far so good actually. Just always be careful on clicking the the site that are too suspicious, bear that in your mind.

Antivirus protection of the computer is of course necessary even if you do not work with cryptocurrencies. It does not always help and your computer can catch the virus. You yourself do not need to go to suspicious sites.

It is better to not store your password on your computer. Yes, it can make it faster to find your password on your computer. But it also make it faster for a hacker to get the password. Just be careful not to install anything suspicious and don't install crack or anything which can contain trojan horses. Becareful to not go on the wrong website and don't participate in giveaway of ETH.

You just do not go to phishing sites, as 90% of the stolen keys users provide themselves. To store on a separate computer all data of course well, but not everyone can afford to have 2 computer.

If you wanted to protect your computer, you may follow the basic rules below: 1. Use a firewall. 2. Install antivirus software. 3. Install an anti-spyware package. 4. Use complex passwords. 5. Keep your OS, apps and browser up to date. 6. Ignore spam. 7. Back up your computer. 8. Shut it down. 9. Use virtualization. 10. Secure your network. 11. Use two-factor authentication. 12. I use Kaspersky internet security to protect my pc and connection from virus and other threats. I'm not sure if it's fully secure, but I never found anything unusual while I use this tool in all of my device. The only downside is, I sometimes experience slow performance due to live scanning or bug.

From what was suggested above, everything is indeed very important. And I will do it from now on, because it's very important to protect devices that we use dangerous attacks. Thank you for very important suggestions for the future. Everyone must know this. I do all that was listed in the first list. I shut down my pc every now and then to clear the cache. You need to eventually do it anyway. It also will restart during updates. Most things stay up to date by themselves as well. They just need the pc to restart. I also protect my gaming accounts and other accounts to forums and such things. F2A is a must. I haven't heard of some of those cyber attack types before. Interesting names. I think I will look them up. Are one of those attack methods physical? Since someone can plug a usb in your pc or something?

Nonsense, your attention will be your main defense !! You do not need to download any antiviruses and other things, if you suddenly need someone, they will not save you, and in the case of the usual surfing the Internet, you are required to be careful and attentive, you just need to install the extension from the advertisement for the browser, and otherwise you do something extra in most cases.

Maybe doing it is a good step like that. Formatting or cleaning every 6 months must be done and I will try to do it. So that our computers are always clean of viruses or something. And now my computer has never even been cleaned or reformatted because I think my computer will be safe if I avoid things I don't want.

I'm guessing what he meant by that is that you should have a back-up of your files, specially important one so that in an event of a hack or viruses or phishing, you can just format everything and you can put back your files as if nothing had happened.

Just run a good Linux distro using an encrypted partition, it asks a password at boot and unless its correct, the data is scrambled. Incidentally if you lose your password you lose your data. I think veracrypt/bitlocker attempt to do the same in windows, but windows has several more things to worry about. User attitude is one of the factors, but so is OS design, and Windows is flawed to the extreme. You run that and its only a matter of time, by user action or inaction (missed update, 0day exploit, accidental click). While Linux is not perfect, it is ages better. Securing Linux is much easier than securing Windows, and with the later you will always have to second guess. So unless you didn't get the answer: Running Linux (or BSD) is first step towards computer security.

I think there's nothing wrong with protecting our computer from antivirus and anti-malware networks, especially if we store all digital assets on the computer

If you have millions worth of money in cryptocurrency then saving it in a computer is not safe. Using a hardware wallet is best but if u have to save it in a computer then at least make sure its one you don't connect very often to the Internet

Now it is impossible not to protect your computer from viruses. Because now cyber attacks are very popular and common. I think that this should be de facto.

On the off chance that you are genuine about ensuring your coins that are put away in your PC then you have to abandon Windows and start to utilize Linux, there is basically no other way, the Windows usable framework is just to unreliable to store any significant measure of cash, so you have to download your preferred Linux dissemination, check that everything is right and after that introduce it and if conceivable attempt to abstain from associating that PC to the Internet so the odds of getting hacked remotely are low

I learned a lot of interesting and new things by reading the messages. This is a really important component for users. What is described here is worth exploring in detail. In my opinion, the most important thing is not to shine your keys to your wallets, and of course caution is a priority.

OP said that windows password is useless. It isn't. It offers very low protection but it's not there to protect your computer from outside hackers or tech savvy people or even people who have to take HDD out or load linux from a USB stick. It's there to protect your PC from children or coworkers who might do something when you're away taking a piss. BIOS password is even better and it's pretty good when you don't want your wife or mother spying on you. Most people don't know how to reset it and won't have time to take your computer apart. It's always better to have even a weak password on your PC but it won't help you with online attacks and that's who most people lose their money.

It is always good to keep ones protective softwares updated in other to enjoy the best security for ones computer. However, the best way to gain good security for ones computer is to first take precautionary measures especially when it comes to the downloading of unknown files, opening of unknown files, visiting unknown websites and the storing of login details in emails.

You can try a few option : - Save the key at flashdisk
- Make a rar for your file and encrypt the file
- Change the extension file of your rar file ( You can get double protection)
- Print out your file to a paper.
I really like the option of "Rar File" you can get more protection with double protection "Password Rar" & "Changing the extension file"

Education is the best way to protect our assets here in crypto. Cyber criminals are all over the space now and if you don't know how to even scan your pc then you are doom to be a victim at one point in time. Educated ourselves, there's a lot of tutorials/helps even here in the community so I will advise everyone to really take the time to learn and practice everything we learn from this forum.

Once a computer is connected to internet, then it is vulnerable to viruses and malware. We need a reliable anti-virus to prevent them to enter our computer.
In connection with these, we need also to protect our wallets passwords and security keys. As much as possible, we need to separate our files with our accounts credentials into an isolated offline computer. An offline computer should not be connected to the internet from the beginning of time.

The worst thing is that it is not known what viruses can exist and hackers have loopholes in your computer. And if you are chosen to attack you do not go anywhere. If you break the big exchanges that spend huge money on protection. It’s easy to hack your stove.

The internet is really complicated, I have received dozens of emails every day from winning programs, inviting investors, ... I think they are deliberately installing something into my computer through the My mailed link. This is definitely something that is harmful to your computer, possibly a virus or can read data from your computer. Be careful

I am using an antivirus which have anti keylogger option to prevent sending information typed with the keyboard of your pc to hackers. I always hold my tokens in hardware wallet as those are fully safe from any hacker attack.
Anti-viruses come with their own disadvantages too. I had one anti-virus which eventually turned into a virus itself when it got outdated. I think the most safest way to protect ones computer is to take precautionary measures with the type of links and files we follow and download respectively. Some links and files lead to phishing.

If we use computers in making transactions, of course security is the main thing. Therefore it is obligatory to protect it. Actually there are many ways to protect it and everyone must have different ways to do it. For me, I only use antivirus, which many people usually use and until now my computer is still safe. And there are still many real ways to protect our computers.
These antivirus programs may not catch the programs that use your computer for hidden mining, which has become one of the biggest problems. If you see that your laptop has become very slow, but you know that everything is OK with the hardware, probably, the best variant is to make a visit to a specialist. He will find the virus or the infected stuff that can take part in this hidden mining.

I personally use an antivirus and still do so well, but still think to replace the antivirus with a cooler one to be completely sure of its security, and then heard that sometimes hackers steal the keys.

We need double protection , one from viruses and other from hackers. Both are active with internet access. Viruses can be controlled by using antivirus but hacking is more difficult to protect. Formatting the computer and not saving any personal details of bank account and other online wallets can minimize the risk of hacking.

The more third-party wallets, apps we download and install to use, the more risks we take ourselves. I totally agreed with you that keeping private keys safely is enough to protect our funds. Of course, computers need to have protections from threats and we should spend small funds to buy and install reliable internet security / antivirus softwares. I suppose to install internet security softwares, which gives more advanced protections.

I myself only use antivirus avast to protect my computer, there are no other programs, my advice is that we better download programs that are clear and from well-known webs so that we avoid dangerous viruses
My last computer was serious damaged by virus and I lost quite great number of information. The computer I have now hasn't really had issues, but I still want a good anti virus for it. I don't trust the one I use now. How good is the avast you talked about please?

important and must be, there are many ways to protect our computer, can install a strong antivirus, not carelessly plug in the flashdisk that we do not know how the flashdisk, do not access dangerous sites, the most dangerous is when our computer is attacked by cerber virus , it will be very dangerous because our files will not be opened, because it was encrypted by someone who made the virus.

I use Kaspersky, it is not only useful as an antivirus but it can also secure networks, passwords, etc. I think you also need to try it, so far I feel comfortable using it compared to other programs

The best protection for your computer is the use of a safe operating system that is resistant to viruses and hacker attacks. Such a system is currently Linux Ubuntu. After I started using it, I stopped worrying about viruses and hacking my computer every day.

I think that links from emails are the main source of danger today. Inexperienced users can believe in congratulations about winning money or something like that they get on their e-mail and all they need is to download a small program and register in it ... It is better not to open any e-mails from people you do not know, it will greatly improve the protection of your computer.

Because you can receive dangerous links from other channels, Facebook, Twitter, Discord, Telegram. To protect yourself, the best thing to do is you have to strictly follow your own rules, that never clicking on links from strangers, from strange emails (don't open emails come from strangers), or even with well-known senders, whom you are familiar with, still don't click on strage links that likely dangerous ones.

Storing your coins on computers are not risky, if you don't have bad web surfing habits. Bad habits will lead to bad results. - Internet security or antivirus softwares - Good habits - Strong passwords - Saving seeds backup offline and safely. I don't see reasons to own hardware wallets, just to be safe.
