[BCN] Bytecoin. Secure, private, untraceable since 2012

Anyone want to take pity on a linux noob. I am trying to graduate to linux and wanted to see if I could get a machine up and mining Bytecoin.

My Setup:
Operating System PIMP 64 bit (copied to a 250gb HD with resized partitions to allow enough space for the Bytecoin blockchain)

Problem:
When I decompress the bytecoin-linux.tar.gz file I get a segmentation error.

Now I have never tried to decompress tar files before so it is possible I am doing something wrong.
The command used is "tar -zxvf bytecoin-linux.tar.gz" this seems to work. It runs without error and decompresses the files to the subdirectory called root/Downloads/bytecoin.

I can see all of the decompressed files when I explore the disk with iceweasel. However, when I try to access them via the terminal I can get into the directory but at that point I cannot see them. The command "dir" returns "segmentation error".

My linux experience is very limited. Am I doing something wrong in the decompress process?

The same question. I'm about to install SteamOS and i never used linux before but want to. Does this problem has a solution on Linux? And which version of Linux should i install to solve it? (maybe SteamOS isn't a good decision?)

So my intuitive decision to switch my hash power back to BCN was after all correct.

I wonder whether this consideration indeed affect the miners' decisions (at least like me, on intuitive level). QCN's price dropped recently, and so did the difficulty. FCN had it vice versa.

Ironically, even with the current low value of BCN, it is still most profitable to mine. And even more ironically, due to the very "low" price nobody is mining. Come on people, if you compare BCN's price with MRO, just keep in mind that the number of total coins supply is 10,000 times larger than in MRO.

Oh, man, if you are new one and you really want to be good at BCN, you shouldn't look for automaticlally servises or appliications. I think it would be better for you to visit some official web-sites (like "bytecoin.org"), keep your eyes on newsletters and read some articles about that. After spending days trying to understand how it works, you'll become a true Guru of cryptocurrency and all tends that we've got currently!

Hm, the calculation does not seem to be totally correct - there’s a block reward penalty to be taken into account - which can have a serious effect on profitability.

But if everybody wouldn't mine QCN because of difficulty, it will become quite expensive... Maybe it's a good idea to mine it for a while and wait when its price become as high as skyscrappers in NYC? Looking for your answer.

BCN does not seem to have a sufficient margin of safety - if difficulty grows by one third - the profitability will surely decrease.

The orphan rate is highest with a low hashrate. The larger the pool / solo miner hashrate, the lower the orphan rate. So you're best off mining in the largest pool. However this leads to centralization...

Why not just switch pools. We have been getting about 1 block an hour with 1 out of 5 being orphan over at EXT-Pool. and thats with a 3khs total speed and only 3 workers.

In Linux the corresponding command is the "ls" (list) command, so type:
ls -l

For help on this command type:
man ls

I found the linux binaries seem to be up-to-date, the current download is version 0.8.9.65. It's not necessary to compile it myself, very good.

Thanks, I think the problem was with the PIMP OS which was designed to run off a USB stick, I installed Zorin instead and everything worked smoothly.
 
Can anyone tell me where ByteCoin stores the blockchain in a linux system once it's downloaded and synchronized. I have fully synchronized the blockchain and want to copy it over to my other computer so I don't have to do it again but I can not find it.
