Hey, interesting coin. Is it really only cpu-minable? I'd like that.

If I mine with my average desktop pc - do I have a chance to get something?

About 3 weeks before I mined with some laptops, getting one block every 3-4 days on every laptop. I stopped mining seeing the laptops running with full power all over the time, consuming lots of energy, in the middle of the night, power supplies becoming warm, and electricity is expensive here in Germany. So the much easiest way is getting some on poloniex, in my opinion.

Good stuff Dstrange! It would be awesome if we could add a brief summary on how to make a backup of the wallet.

- Which file(s) to backup.
- How to get the wallet up and running from scratch, using the backup.
- What we are actually doing in the previous steps.

This gotta to be considered as vital information, safety first.

Do developers hold any coins?

Sure they do! So they stay interested in  improving it! Motivated  Wink

There is no indication they hold any at all. Not sure why you are compelled to say they do.
The fact that Bytecoin gets renovations and new features can be a good indicator btw.
Saw this statement somewhere on forum and have to say i agree.
Most of the developers hold coins. If they don't a currency simply dies.

I really like the website too. But im not sure if it needs a forum... i mean we are all fine here. There can be a page for feedback and questions for example.

I do very much like this site. Was this put together by DStrange himself?

I feel the about section of this should mention more about how this was even discovered by the Bitcointalk community and eventually moved into further investigation.

Back in March while in a Bytecoin(BTE) thread DStrange posts a reply to someone speaking about the BTE website Bytecoin.org not knowing it was BCN.  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=164569.msg5642360#msg5642360

The posts that follow spark the users to dig further, first thinking BTE has been ripped off, questions about the algo and realizing that the coin was actually released first.

I understand CryptoNote is not based on Satoshi code. I do wonder, do you provide compatible interfaces (to the extent possible with the network logic)? Or is it necessary to write completely new client software in order to have it work with CryptoNote networks?

Good stuff Dstrange! It would be awesome if we could add a brief summary on how to make a backup of the wallet.

- Which file(s) to backup.
- How to get the wallet up and running from scratch, using the backup.
- What we are actually doing in the previous steps.

This gotta to be considered as vital information, safety first.

Can you do it for us?
Yea I suppose so. But it would take me a while to learn everything. I was hoping someone already knew, so I can focus my time on something else.

I agree. Also, I think the zerocash people are too exposed and it will not be tolerated. That scenario would pretty much leave just BCN (and copies) in the game.

Can someone explain to a non-technical guy what the BCN devs are doing? What does that mean, moving it out of RAM? Can other cryptonote coins copy this?
ATM you need more than 3,5Gb of system memory to run a full node, this is because the blockchain is stored on the system memory (RAM), with the new system you should be able to run a node with much less RAM, just like as in Bitcoin.
This update was really needed since if the blockchain grows bigger, only systems with LOTS of RAM could be used to run the software.

Why was the blockchain stored in the RAM in the first place? Will moving the blockchain out of the ram make the wallet slower in some way? Its nice to know that the Bytecoin devs are working on the coin but I was hoping that there would be more of a significant improvement.
