Do you really believe that if any government would want to ban Bitcoin or crypto (like China), they couldn't do it?
Of course they can  Grin
Even in the remote case that it would be technically impossible (and this is remote), banning the use of BTC makes it marginal and downsizes the user base to a few "darknet" participants...
People advertising Bitcoin will say what they need to keep the marketing going, but the truth is that the institutions will have to be on board for massification, otherwise remember that governments hold the power plug, the internet plug, etc

This applies to all countries (more or less). Many countries could radically decide to forbid Bitcoin as the easiest solution for them. (When we see how they struggle to create adapted laws, for those who think that crypto needs laws).

A government cannot prohibit citizens from using Bitcoin, that is precisely the point of the article.
In fact, it can, if it is considered that it can verify directly at the source. Either by having access to bank data. (What is already in place by some governments for tax evasion and money laundering). I could also give the case of some French banks that blocked all transfers to Kraken. At the time, transfers were blocked until the account holder signed a release.

In short, what I meant is that as long as the citizen mixes cryptos with banks, yes, it can be easy to control its citizens.
But in this case, there is no point in running after a currency that is free of any government if in the end it still has its ticket to enter and control.

Can it stop a citizen from having a wallet at home? Can it prevent it from using a decentralized exchange? OTC? If he ever spends Bitcoin in a store can it intercept his merchandise? In the end, it's a lot of effort spent on nothing

If this happens in my country, I will continue to use it. But I'll think twice about whether justice can send me to jail. I don't want to go to jail just for a currency. I don't have time and I have responsibilities and a family too.

For a long time, I have been convinced that privacy coins will have a much more important place in the market. Demand will explode sooner or later, believe me. Horizen is one of those privacy-centric cryptocurrencies that militate for people's privacy.
Now, if privacy coins are banned, the question is always the same. How can a government really prevent a citizen?

Sometimes I wonder if Bitcoin could be a threat to the actual economy, by rebalancing the wealth and some other things but too long to explain what I think about.

It could also come from countries that are not necessarily dictatorships or similar. A country that thinks in this way (rightly or wrongly) that it can fight against anything that is laundering money and others. A country that does not want to get bored with tax issues...

Basically, many central bank did not consider cryptocurrency as currency so the government cant make a law regarding the cryptocurrency whether against to it or not. Even China cant banned it hundred percent because there were lots of ways to do a transactions and the flow can still be done.

If we are talking Bitcoin as a form of money,  yes, government can and they will if its detrimental to its fiat system. You will be using bitcoin illegally if its banned, but who cares, there's always a way to use it inside a bitcoin-banned country. If so, you should be doing it with caution. Otherwise, nope.

Total banned can still happen if the government will push it through but of course they will not do that for a good specific reason, they see a great potential despite of their black propaganda. Bitcoin can't be banned because its our future and if the government will stop it, they will die slowly for sure. Bitcoin will stay  and government will love this one in the future.

The argument is right and they can't really ban bitcoin but I think what they're trying to do is stopping people to use it. Since they can't control bitcoin, they're controlling the users of bitcoin in their country. If you are just a normal citizen it's hard to go against the government and they have no choice. Unless you want to be a deviant just to make a transaction
Yes, they are controlling their people to prevent them from achieving their freedom. Bitcoin can't be banned but the government can ban any cryptosite that can totally prevent its people from transacting. Government consider this as a blackmarket, we must still be careful and don't be too confident. Bitcoin is good but we still need to follow our government rules and regulations though its against our belief let's just fight for this freedom legally and on process.

Yes, the government's ban are not affect for bitcoin usage.
But if there is something bad about bitcoin let say that you get scam etc, you can't find Law protection.
They decide to ban crypto in order to protect their civilian from harm ( from their perspective )

I would like to take up the points of an article published on Bitcoinist. (Even if some will say that this media is Pro-Bitcoin the points are the most important.)

Quote
1. Laws Can’t Be Written Against Bits and Bites
2. You Can’t Ban Open-Source Distributed Software
3. Bitcoin Can Be Broadcasted via Satellite
4. You can Send Bitcoin Via SMS
5. You Can’t Shut Down the Power Grid

Any regulation can't prevent us from using Bitcoin. Despite their attempt to keep an eye on the system, it is simply impossible for them to ban people using it. So why giving a fuck to "I'm afraid my country will ban Bitcoin!"
They have nothing to fully stop the ecosystem that is currently emerging.
I think I've seen this topic before but anyway. It's would be tough for bitcoin to be controlled by anyone or to be banned rather. Yes, government could make prohibition upon its vicinity but they cannot fully control his people, they will use more anonymous way just to do transaction. In short, even if government ban this cryptocurrency folks will always find a way especially nowadays we became more efficient in technology hence it cannot be stopped.

the reality, we don't worry, BTC will be difficult to stop. BTC volatility moves quickly every time. more users, it will be more difficult to be affected by the monetary crisis.

BTC will save from inflation and BTC will improve the world economy.

You are right. There is no way controlling the people to stop bitcoin transactions. There may be a massive banning on bitcoin but still people will surely find ways to access bitcoin. I think bitcoin will only be stopped when there is an internet shutdown all over the world but this thing is very impossible knowing the fact that all works are controlled already by internet.

People advertising bitcoin?  I see ads offering crypto services and altcoin projects but I don't see any actual bitcoin ads.  Why would someone pump the bags of others when they don't have a large stake in btc because they weren't there at the start.

My government can't stop Internet and can't control my activity on Internet.
So, simple speaking, I have full freedom to do what I want or like on Internet including trading or buying bitcoin.
Of course, if my government don't accept crypto I can't legally report it but have first to exchange crypto to fiat and find some smart answer from where money came Smiley
or just hold bitcoin in my wallet if I don't need cash.

It's impossible to ban and shutdown the bitcoin network. Even in some countries that was critical of the bitcoin in the past, the bitcoinist in those countries found a way around their activities. Bitcoin is a technology that is giving the government and the big banks a run for their old traditional way of financially enslaving the people they are suppose to be serving, hence the many theory of confusion to discourage its weak users, but they make it even more popular.

I totally agree with you mate. There is no such thing as banned when we talk about a decentralized asset even though governments has already implemented regulations on our local exchanges but still having good performance. I don't think if Bitcoin will be banned because of it's feature. Bitcoin can be used in either trading or holding it can even be used as payment method so why do they ban it? We can use Bitcoin depending on our  transactions.

As bitcoin is based upon blockchain and peer to peer network it is highly unlikely if even the ban occurs the bitcoin would still be utilized.

Reading this made my day. I mean I know that this is not possible and the people posting about this are really scared of it. I even remember someone posting about it that if their country banned Bitcoin, they will be getting out of that country and live somewhere else where Bitcoin is already regulated and accepted, it might a sarcasm but it is really funny remembering that after reading this post.

I think bitcoin cannot be banned now because of its fame and popularity, and it is widely introduced around the world and its a way of investments now, if bitcoin would collapse, many investors and traders who get bankruptcy and lose very much money out of bitcoin investment.

I think that the author of that article should speak with the Chinese Government since they are now banning bitcoin. We all know that once the Chinese Government moves it's for real. Too bad for Chinese people who use bitcoin and other cryptos, lucky for us since our government thinks the same as the author of this article.
I think you misunderstood it China doesn't ban Bitcoin they ban ICO's and mining but not Bitcoin.
And it is true Bitcoin is impossible to be ban or stop even if they ban it we would surely find a way to keep on using it.

Governments can banned the used of bitcoin if they wanna too but they cannot prevent peoples to used bitcoin as it was impossible to do so. The governments can make a new regulation if they want too but still they cannot stop peoples to used bitcoin even they wanna too.

Ban people from using Bitcoin?  This is ridiculous because it is impossible.  Now they have invented a large number of services that will help in the purchase of Bitcoin by exchanging it or even changing the IP address.
