User/I made a mistake post one years ago. If this is the only mistake he/she obviously got familiar with rules and changed the behavior. Why ban if user is no longer making a mistakes or act against the rules in period like 1 year or longer. In this case delete the post and send user a warning: you made mistake 1 year ago we are glad you changed the behavior.
The answer for your request was answered clearly there: Doesn't matter if you don't remember.
Doesn't matter if you don't usually plagiarize.
Doesn't matter if you were new here and didn't read the rules and didn't have enough common sense.
Doesn't matter if you're sorry.
Doesn't matter if it was you only did it one time.
Get it? All of those are excuses, and we've heard them all before. You haven't made any extraordinary contributions to this forum, so there's no chance in hell you're going to get your account restored, unless it's with a signature ban or something. I think this is good and finally, there is something done with all these bots created during the last two years only for bounty campaigns.
I have seen talks on the forum to built such a tool and maybe we are experiencing the outcome of this discussion.
Only want to add that if there are banned members and they don't deserve that (innocent victims) then I fully understand that this is not the best position to be but there are always possibilities to ask for a second look on the case.

I didn't quite start well as a decent poster on the forum myself but never did I intentionally copy someone else work to present it as mine. I did post similar replies of mine (mostly short comments) numerous times but I was not paid to post those so i guess it was just laziness from my ends since I wasn't a regular on the forum then and never did put some thought into what I was about writing. I thought there was a discussion sometime in the past about giving members caught committing plagiarism a second chance maybe we should revisit that option so cases that aren't that serious, let's say one or two line cases should be given temporary bans and if they get caught again for plagiarized they get permanent ban. I'm giving this suggestion because majority of individual that get ban don't actual leave the forum, especially those that were benefiting in some manner from the forum. They usually return with alt account and this could be one of the reasons why we have repeated or similar started topics on some specific boards because this guys already know where the merit are so they try to recreate similar topics. e.g if you skimmed through the beginner and help board you can find more than 3-4 similar topic started by newbie/jnr members focusing on a particular topic with similar content e.g email protection. Maybe someone with the right tools should post along side the banned accounts statistics of newely created accounts lets see if it's increasing as banned accounts stats are increasing. |

I think that it would be too much extra work for moderators, which is why it is not feasible. Every normal forum user knows that for committing plagiarism is ban and the end. In other cases, there are already ways to ask for a second chance or a second look at a banned account. |

Only 2 Senior Members banned today, without users at higher ranks. The drops of total bans on higher ranks actually started since yesterday update. Now, we might assume that reporter likely aims at higher ranks in early days of running not to find plagiarisms. It's just an assumption, and could be wrong.
For newbies, I think nuke is better. It sounds harsh but there are some reasons to consider nuking plagiarising-newbies.
- it gives them strong warnings as well as good motivations to read rules, and avoid future violations and bans.
- they nearly won't lose anything if they are newbies (not fully right for all users, but it seems right generally).
- they mostly made shitposts, and spam, so nuke is helpful to clear their all shitposts
