My initial plan was to make this for a user's post history too, but it was much more work than anticipated, so I skipped that.

I could still add it when I have time, but my "topic details" are barely used, and I expect the same for "user details".

Have you ever considered scraping the bbcode of posts instead of the html? Or at least scrape both of them? This would solve some problems, one of them is determining accuratly if an image changed in a post or not

I scrape posts as a guest, without logging in. That means I only see HTML, there is no BBCode.
The only way to see BBCode of a post would be by clicking "edit" (for my own posts) or "quote" for posts from other users. And that's only possible if the topic isn't locked.
I guess the forum database stores posts as BBCode, but that's above my pay grade.

Well one solution is first making a dummy bitcointalk account; to get a post quote that's the template:

after replacing the three fields we get a link where we can get the the content of the textarea html tag which contains the bbcode of the post.

It's not really a bug but I'll fix it anyway: the members lists only include users who posted since I started this thread (in July last year). Satoshi's posts are part of my "oldposts" archive, which can be found by searching for older msgIDs, but not yet by topicID or userID. I'm working on adding this, but processing the data it's going to take a while.

I have the data already (example), but it's not the most convenient format to create a list by userID and topicID. I have 12 (15? GB compressed files, it's too much to extract them all at once, and I still don't use a database. It'll work, but it takes a while. That's okay, because this is a one-time thing.

Yes, I use recent posts to get new posts.
It's currently out of CPU credits, so it got like 10 times slower.

For the older posts, I downloaded all topics. There's no need to download post by post, each page has up to 20 posts.

Hello LoyceV and bitmover!

This is a huge change for a better user friendliness of the site as a whole and of the search for deleted/edited posts in particular. Great job! I have to say that the old way of searching for posts, topics and user IDs was a bit difficult for the users which did not have too much experience in computers, thus this update is very helpful. Not just for the users with limited experience, but also for the experienced ones, as the new interface makes things way more simpler and faster.

Considering the change, LoyceV, do you think this part of the OP should be updated too? I'm asking because the old way of searching is not working anymore. Now you have to insert the full number of message ID/topic ID/user ID.

How to use it

• Find the msgID, userID or topicID you need. Let's use msgID 51902990.
• Remove the last 4 digits from the msgID to get the directory name (if there are 4 or less digits, use 0): 5190.
• Put everything together behind the (above) URL and add ".html": http://loyce.club/archive/posts/5190/51902990.html.

I chose an ID and I selected only first four digits (out of 8 or how many they were) and the result was someone else: the user which had the ID made from those exactly 4 digits... The post is missing from Loyce.Club:  Archive of Loyce.Club 404 error, archive of Loyce.Club topic list which does not show this post.  The post is available from Ninjastic.Space (archive of Ninjastic archive of post; archive of Ninjastic archive of the topic).  I have not (yet?) collated the list with other available records to ascertain if any other posts are missing.

Your first posts on the forum provided an injection of knowledge relevant to the main subjects of the forum, but then you became completely obsessed with starting witch hunts against everybody who had crossed you in the past.

What happened?

For the record:  I did not delete any of ibminer’s posts from that topic.  I was manually fending off an apparent spambot attack by suchmoon, who reposted identical content 21 times within 2 hours; she sometimes reposted within seconds after I deleted it, so I rather doubt that that was done manually.  In another topic that nutildah follows, I was contemporaneously counting deletions.  The count of identical posts can be easily verified in the Ninjastic topic archive:  Ctrl-F for the phrase, "Awww, nullius has been triggered" (my browser says “1 of 21 matches”).  nutildah posted the above right after suchmoon stopped using spammer tactics to attempt forcing her post; either nutildah must have been high as a kite to make the above accusation, or he must have been intentionally lying.  Of course, I myself deleted nutildah’s post; but I never want for such evidence to be memory-holed.

Now, I must ask:  What happened to post ID 56749635 in the Loyce.Club archive?  Was it eaten by a bug, or was that post intentionally excluded for some reason?  —If this is a bug, how many other posts may be affected?

Either way, it is an important question.  Many forum users rely on the Loyce.Club archive for evidence of facts in controversy.

Aside:  When I use self-mod powers to delete posts, I habitually save quotes of them.  If you play stupid games, then you will win stupid prizes.

I don't have a redundant setup, so I'm glad TryNinja archives the posts I missed. It doesn't happen often though:

I just checked loyce.club/archive/posts/5233/: it shows 9994 files. That means my scraper missed 6 posts, or 0.06%.
This might have been caused by burst posting (faster than my scraper can handle), or those 6 posts could be in Investigation or some other hidden board that normal users can't access.

If this is a bug, how many other posts may be affected?

I can't tell exactly, I don't archive posts in Investigations and hidden (Mod/VIP) boards.

That's 0.17%, and I'm mostly missing the newer posts. Since April 6, I have multiple "leftover" tmp-files per day, which indicates something failed. I was never completely satisfied with the way my script handles scraping, but now it's just terrible. If the kids let me, I'll try to find the cause tomorrow.

Either way, it is an important question.  Many forum users rely on the Loyce.Club archive for evidence of facts in controversy.

I've considered setting up a second VPS, but don't want to double my load on Bitcointalk. Setting it up to only start scraping if my regular archiving fails would solve this, but considering the few posts I missed, I never created this.
