The umpires could have extended the session, but they stuck strictly to the book. Let’s be honest: given Pakistan's track record for sudden, chaotic batting collapses, a couple of quick wickets would have forced the umpires to extend the session by over half an hour anyway, delaying lunch and dragging the game out far longer than expected. So basically, I can't have any complaints about the umpires for making that call.

Umpires and their decision have always come under the hammer. This is not the first time something like this has happened in Test cricket. Anyways, the Pakistan team under the captainship of Babar Azam was able to save face and draw the series. This team is so unpredictable that I was not confident that they would win till the chased every run left to win.

According to the rules of test matches, they could have extended the session by 15 minutes (at least 4 overs). Which could have been enough for Pakistan to score 18 runs more and win the match. But there should be a request from the captains of any team for the extension. Umpires don't have the power to extend a session without a captain request. Maybe there were a lot of pending ads for the entire day, that's why they took a long lunch break for the broadcasters .

Like @Mahdirakib mentioned, If both team captains requested the extension, the umpires should have given it to them. Even when it comes to ending a match if a result is not possible, I remember that the captains made those decisions, not the umpires.

I am not sure if there are new rules regarding this, but from what I have witnessed in the past, there were precedents where both captains decided to end the match because the pitch wasn’t up to standard, forcing the match referee to call it off.

Like @Mahdirakib mentioned, If both team captains requested the extension, the umpires should have given it to them. Even when it comes to ending a match if a result is not possible, I remember that the captains made those decisions, not the umpires.

Just found out about the India-Lanka test series starting soon with the warm ups in progress currently. Good to see Jadeja, Kuldeep with Sundar mixed in together since spin bowling has been India's ace in the test format for a long while now in my opinion.

Pant needs to step up after his horrendous IPL experiences in recent years. Am predicting a draw or India winning the series. Let's see how it plays out.

Has anyone here seen the results of the warm-up match between Bangladesh and Cricket Australia XI? I don't think Bangladesh batsmen are fit for any format, I can't see any improvement in them, lol.

Bangladesh somehow managed to score 263 runs in the first innings due to Mehidy Hasan Miraz's good performance. Whereas Cricket Australia XI scored 355 runs in the first innings. Australia took a lead of 90 runs and Bangladesh were all out for 54 runs in the second innings, ha ha.

Bangladesh also lost by an innings in the three-day test which is a shame. So it is clear that Bangladesh batsmen will play even worse against Australia's main XI. I think Bangladesh will lose by an innings.

Just found out about the India-Lanka test series starting soon with the warm ups in progress currently. Good to see Jadeja, Kuldeep with Sundar mixed in together since spin bowling has been India's ace in the test format for a long while now in my opinion

India’s batting department is looking positive on Day 2, inspite of losing two early wickets including young star Yashasvi Jaiswal. But Devdutt Padikkal played confidently in the field and hit the century. India may consider him for national team in upcoming team match. Sri Lanka XI already scored 363/8 declared where new comer Ravindu Rasantha hit the highest score, 70 runs. Overall they collected good amount of runs. Now India's middle order need to have patience and spend some time in field. Thus they will get used to the Colombo conditions too. Although This is only a warm-up game but a valuable preparation opportunity before the Test series. Let's see how others Indian players reacts in this match

It looks like there has been a major change in the law, stripping captains of their ability to make decisions to call off play. Now, everything is decided by the umpires.

I remember matches in the 90s involving India vs Sri Lanka and West Indies vs South Africa, being called off by the captains due to poor pitch conditions. I was not aware of the new rules that were implemented, and hence, we do not see such moves after that.

Since celebrations and the old-school send-offs are now a code violation, and aggression is frowned upon, I agree that the umpires should have extended the session. Because I was not aware of some of these implementations when I made the comment, I now see that the umpires act in a position of dictators. The captain does not have a voice in the majority of the decision-making during the game, so the umpires should be held responsible.

But when it is day 5 then it can be tricky, they can decide to continue if the players are willing to conitue but one capitain who might end up losing the game if it continues will obviously don't want to play so it's fair to assume that the decision comes from the upire alone.

Nahid Rana is the most exciting bowler they have produced, and I was expecting some good battles at the Marrara Cricket Ground, where it is a fast and bouncy pitch. Surprisingly, on that same pitch, they were all out for 54 runs. It is unfortunate he will be missing the entire tour, and Tanzim Hasan Sakib will not be in the entire series as well.

On the other hand, Australia's full-strength team has experienced fast bowlers like Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Scott Boland. They will definitely be the main reason why Bangladesh's batters cannot survive on the pitch. All in all, I do not see any chance for Bangladesh against Australia, especially in Test cricket. It will be a great battle for Bangladesh to take the match to a fourth day, considering they do not have their best bowlers and their batsmen usually struggle on fast pitches. My prediction is a whitewash from Australia.

WTF.. Broadcasting rights are tied to this big change in deciding if the lights are bad or not. The Captains should be able to decide if not; then ICC is slowly adopting what BCCI did long back [make money first], then [play cricket as a gentleman's game]. This is bad, and I do not understand why boards did not protest. Imagine, due to bad light, if a team loses a test match, then who will take responsibility: the Captain and the coach, I guess.

Not completely changed, it depends on case to case.

Pitch being dangerous, then its mutual decision from both skipper if both skipper things that pitch is dangerous then its their call, happened in SA, mentioned earlier (elgar vs kohli).

For draws as well, it's skipper call. They could decide whatever they want if win/lose result is out of the equation. Happened in the last India's tour of England. Result wasn't possible so stokes went to indian batters and wanted to shake hands for draw. Washi and jaddu refused it because they were in their 80s.

Skipper also take call on light but it's only from batting side because who's want to bat in end of the day and lose wickets, fielding side always want to go on with the game. Final call comes from umpires only, they have light meters for such calls, light( visibility)standard are set from day 1 and same conditions should be met for the rest of the match.

One thing is clear that Bangladesh won't be able to win any test nor they will be able to draw test in this series because Australians are too strong. Only thing Bangladesh can do in this series is to give their best and try not to make records like getting all out on 54 runs. Bangladesh recently loss test match miserably to Zimbabwe and now they are up against mighty Australia. Its a two test match series and my prediction is that Australia will easily win this series by a margin of 2-0.

Australia team have more chances to win this match because their track record is best and they are made for test cricket and they always focus more on  test cricket because test cricket shows your fitness . Pat Cummins is a great leader and he always try to be brave and always give confidence to players who have no confidence to play against best team. Steve Smith is best test player of the World and he will try to make century in this match and he will go for hundred then they will definitely win this match. Three days are remaining and we will see good competition because Bangladesh can give tough time to them. That is cricket and result depends on the performance of players not on stats.

We are shit against spin now except few here n there. It was warm up match so not reading much into it despite winning s 3 day match.
