I guess you are mixing Olympic participant with Cricket participants. Yes, there were 28 nations but for Cricket only 2 English and French.

Is that really surprising? How many cricket teams were there back in 1900? Many of the countries, such as Argentina and Cuba could send only one athlete each, as token representation. Only countries 6 had more than two dozen athletes: Belgium, Switzerland, France, Great Britain, Germany and the Netherlands. Out of them, only GB and Netherlands had proper cricket teams and somehow Netherlands skipped the event and was replaced by the amateur team from France.

I don't think so and I can't remember when I saw him last to play international cricket.

Last test- 24th July 2014 vs South Africa
Last ODI- 26th December 2015 vs New Zealand
Last T20- 27 May 2014 vs England

So, after 2015, he never played an international match because of his shit performance.
He has a lot of records in early days, but later he turned into a shit.

I’ll agree he won’t be missed and I had forgotten about him till I read about his retirement here, he had an excellent start to his carrier but later on performances started to drop. There was a time when they had a balanced team, but now they’re a mess and it’ll take them many years to challenge top teams again.

I think he should have being with the team as rightly said at this time team required him and his experience as not much experienced players of the SL team is playing and with this another one out . It’s a blow for the teams Nd it’s upcoming players .

I am not sure why everyone is fixed on his experience when Ajantha Mendis is not picked in the team for Test from 2014 and he last played ODI in 2015, there is a reason for his exclusion as he was not performing up to his potential he showcased during his debut and he was finding it hard to pick wickets and if the cricket board thinks that they have much better player they will pick them rather than having emotion and knowing that his career is not going forward he is retiring from all forms of cricket.

Kohli created couple of record with last innings century. Firstly he is now equal Sachin record of maximum century against a country of scoring 9 century by Kohli against WI and Sachin also has 9 against Oz in ODI. Also Kohli is the first batsman to score more than 20k runs in a decade .

Absolute insanity. Crazy thing is that he performs at this best against a team like Australia which says a lot. He is the only person in my opinion who is capable of breaking Sachin's records in the long term as long as he continues playing for a long period of time.

The only other player that comes close is Steven Smith in my opinion who has the potential to set huge records as long as his amazing batting average stays consistent over the long term.

Well.. I would agree that Sachin had a god-like status during the 1990s and the 2000s. You are right, when you claim that Sachin encouraged players such as Virat Kohli and Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Back then, every kid wanted to bat like Sachin. I still remember a placard which I saw when I was a kid: "cricket is our religion, Sachin is our god". Hmmmm.... those were the times...

He is not in the team for a long time, he was a sensation when he debuted for the team as no team was able to crack his tricks in his initial series but with the modern slow motion cameras every team studied him really well and started playing well against him and he could not keep up with the expectation and crumbled on the pressure. He was really talented and he invented the carom ball but he could not perform to his true potential in the later part of his career.

Did Srilanka team has better bowlers than Mendis ? No, they are lacking in good bowlers. Then why is was not given the chance ?
There was no harm in trying Mendis too in the recent matches, who knows he might have clicked. But sadly Srilankan team did not gave him any chance and he retire without playing in recent times.

Rangana Herath was their main bowler after the retirement of Muttiah Muralitharan and you cannot pick anyone because they performed a long time back, if the selectors might have thought that Mendis is playing better domestic cricket than the rest of the players he would have being picked in the team.

There was no harm in trying Mendis too in the recent matches, who knows he might have clicked. But sadly Srilankan team did not gave him any chance and he retire without playing in recent times.

There is no comparison between kholi and Sachin. If you will compare the stats by the time Kholi will retire, you might see Kholi making more runs than sachin because these days we have a lot of ODI and T20 as compare to in the past. But this will not reflect the true comparison.

For me, Sachin is a player of the century and Kholi might be the player of the decade.

If Pakistan is able to keep terrorists in check for this series then it’s quiet possible that, other cricket playing nations may agree to come and play there. However I don’t think their locals will be happy because they’ll be seeing their team play against Srilankan B team, so how can you be so sure that their stadiums will be full?.

It's a big opportunity for Pakistan to prove themselves that they are still good to be a host nation. Too many political agenda which is also not good for Pakistan cricket team. Good thing is that Sri Lankan management is taking risk but somehow it turns out to be a mess then the loser will be Pakistan management again. I do not think India, Australia, England, New Zealand, South Africa even West India, Bangladesh and Afghanistan team will take any risk considering the possible things could happen in Pakistan.

However I don’t think their locals will be happy because they’ll be seeing their team play against Srilankan B team, so how can you be so sure that their stadiums will be full?.

Despite having team B or C or whatever, the local should welcome them and prove that Pakistan is a safe place now for Cricket for international tour.

But if the SL Board had any prior information in this regard. Then they should have abandoned this tour entirely in the first place, which they didn't and SL Board did precisely opposite by briefing their regular team about security etc. it was a players choice to opt-out from this tour due to safety or any other reason ( Read; NOC Demand).

Karachi and Lahore are safe in comparison of let's say north-eastern part of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa so there shouldn't be any Terrorist threat. Can't comment about other countries but India is not in the mood for next decade or so ( Our diplomatic relations are fucked).

Very disappointing to see the final squad composition from Sri Lanka. Too many inexperienced players with hardly any foreign exposure. These matches are going to be terribly one-sided, given the home advantage that may be enjoyed by the Pakistani team. Anyway once this series is successfully completed, more teams may express their willingness to tour Pakistan.

Brave? I doubt so. The chances of any attack occurring during the tour is very minimal. But the Sri Lankan board badly needs the revenue and therefore they have agreed to the tour.  Those who refused to be part of the team have other options, such as playing county cricket in England. Anyway I am glad that the youngsters are getting a chance. And who knows? They may be able to perform a few upsets.

Well, there's not going to be any A-class players such as Lasith Malinga, so it'll probably not be very entertaining. However, I'm sure that Pakistan Cricket Board will still welcome these boys happily as having something is better than having absolutely nothing. At one time in the last few weeks, it felt like Sri Lankans are just gonna walk-out from this series, but it seems like they fulfilled their promise.

Let's just hope now that everything goes fine!
