Seems pretty harsh even though he was able to skip the maximum penalty of 5 years but still 2 years is harsh for a player especially when a player is near to his career end in 3-4 years but then again maybe its for the best to bury a lesson deep down in the brain of other players. I guess he can make it 1 year as the article says: In order to avoid the one-year suspended sentence coming into effect, Shakib must not commit any offence under the ACU code during the initial one-year suspension, and participate regularly in anti-corruption education and/or rehabilitation programmes.
I doubt he will be back in the team again as all these events started after Shakib lead the entire team to strike against the BCB and it was a rippling effect after that and now he is banned due to corruption and that too for not informing the ICC about bookies approaching him and historically we have seen that players being accused of such will find it hard to return to the team but in his case even Sheikh Haseena the Bangladesh PM is also supporting him and whether this will make any impact for his cricket career is to be seen.

Looks political witch hunt to me, we are suppose to believe that after 2 years suddenly ICC woke up and got their shit together. Timing is fucked up here without any doubt and as far as i understand he denied the Bookie's offer. 6-18 months sounds harsh as well - for not reporting-
Probably, but Shakib is not as innocent as you guys make him out to be. As I mentioned earlier, both are at fault here. He is definitely one of the best Cricket players(Already a legend in my opinion), but he has made a lot of mistakes before and this could probably have been one of them. I do hope that he bows out of this sport gracefully though somehow despite all these allegations even though this seems highly unlikely at this point. I wonder how the Bangladesh team will recover from these consecutive blows. Tbh i am sad to hear about shakib, because i rate highly him as a cricketer. you are right that he is not innocent as we think, he did broke rules by not reporting the couple of incidents, may be more? and now paying the price. but he's not alone in this game and i believe BCB has a big role in it, my understanding is that at start BCB was saving his ass but after drama between players and board they threw him under the bus. (agree with @iwantapony) I heard from unverified source that one of the BCB's official gave his contact number or introduce him to a Bookie way back in 2016-17. as of now he accepted the 3 charges and punishment. Source1. engage in Corrupt Conduct - in relation to the Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe Tri-Series in January 2018 and / or the 2018 IPL
2. Article 2.4.4 – Failure to disclose to the ACU full details of any approaches or invitations he received to engage in Corrupt Conduct - in relation to a second approach in respect of the Tri-Series in January 2018
3. Article 2.4.4 – Failure to disclose to the ACU full details of any approaches or invitations he received to engage in Corrupt Conduct - in relation to an IPL 2018 match between Sunrisers Hyderabad v Kings XI Punjab on 26 April 2018.

I guess he can make it 1 year as the article says:
I highly doubt it. It would take a miracle for him to bounce back after this offence even if the ban is just for an year. Even if he returns, he will be constantly booed probably just like Smith and Warner which is why this is probably his retirement time. I heard from unverified source that one of the BCB's official gave his contact number or introduce him to a Bookie way back in 2016-17. as of now he accepted the 3 charges and punishment. Are you planning some kind of tournament again anytime soon(Like the previous IPL and World Cup tournaments) since I enjoyed them a lot? I placed a risky bet on Sri Lanka and looks like Australia are set to demolish them, but it was a small bet luckily. Too many one sided matches these days.

Just noticed the post by JSRAW. So all this happened during the IPL 11, just before the match between Sunrisers Hyderabad v Kings XI Punjab. This actually raises a few uncomfortable questions about the IPL itself. First of all, how did the bookies managed to approach players representing the Sunrisers Hyderabad? Second, if they were able to approach Shakib, what is the guarantee that they didn't approached the other players? And thirdly, what is the surety that all of the SRH players turned down their offer?
I have always regarded the Sunrisers Hyderabad and the Chennai Super Kings as franchises prone to shady deals. The CSK were suspended for 2 years, and only returned to the IPL in 2018. CSK is owned by N Srinivasan, while the SRH is owned by his close friend and politician Kalanithi Maran. My guess is that rather than Shakib, it is the CSK/SRH franchises that are behind the scourge of match fixing. I would say that Shakib was made a scapegoat, so that Srinivasan and Maran could escape.

All the franchise cricket has some shady things happening, Pakistan players caught recently in the spot fixing scandal and IPL being the biggest money maker in the market you are bound you expect these kind of things and the bookies will try their best to get inside information and most probably fix the matches so that they can win millions every game and this is a huge black market for these illegal activities and majority of the times people who are close to the team management will be behind these and so is the reason the ICC has implemented some strict policies regarding it to avoid these instances.

This reminds me of Sharjeel Khan; it seems like he's gonna be a part of the upcoming PSL players draft! It's amazing; it has been 5 years since he last played an international-level match. Feels like yesterday TBH. Let's see if his batting style is still as aggressive as before. I hope he proves himself in the upcoming PSL and makes way to the international cricket again.

Nonsense. Don't assume stuff without providing concrete proof. SRH was never accused of fixing even once while CSK and RR are the only 2 franchises that have engaged in shady deals and this has been proved. Shakib is not some innocent child who was forced to commit these crimes. He knew damn well what he was doing and he deserves this punishment(1 year would have been enough though). Advice : Stop making pointless accusations.

It is hard to have a quick comeback to the team. Already there will be lots and lots of politics. Overcoming all those politics eleven players get into the playing eleven. Now when there arises an issue, he gets eliminated easily. In the history of cricket very few have returned back to cricket after the punishment. India is most popular for these match fixing issues, after the captaincy of Dhoni this has reduced. In India even in the IPL match fixinga were done and few teams were restricted to be a part of the tournament for one or two years.

After Shakib's ban another news coming out that Glenn Maxwell known as "The big show" has taken a break from the Cricket due to his Mental problems. i have never seen him angry or sad in the cricket field. it tells us about the pressure in International game or "grass is always greener on the other side". Aussie cricket star Glenn Maxwell takes break from game for mental health reasons

This is the first player who is taking a break from cricket completely because of mental problems and i am glad he identified his issues and he asked the cricket board for a break and they are supporting him, the way in which he performed in the first T20 and he way he was fielding nor talking during those period you will not identify something was wrong with him, hope he returns and be alright there may be huge pressure or personal issues to get to a stage to take a break like this.

Never seen him angry? Really? I saw him lose his temper on more than 1 occasion though he never got into duels with other players. He is definitely not one of the calm ones, but he stays in control which is why I always appreciated his style. This is why this news is not much of a shocker to me. He is one of the greatest T-20 and ODI cricketers ever and he did the right thing by tackling his mental issues. I do hope he is back in full form(Physically and mentally) before the T-20 World Cup.

^^ I might be wrong on my statement but he has a reputation of being a funny guy. the only incident i remember (and one in IPL i suppose) he getting angry way back to 2015-2016 when he was playing against the Sri lanka where Mahela Jayawardene & co were performing some dirty tricks or vodoo (cricketing point of view) on the last ball of the inning.

If aggression is seen as a mental issue then André Nel and Sreesanth will be admitted in mental hospital by now as they were too aggressive while playing cricket and these things happen when you are in a match and it has nothing to do with the mental breakdown because he was aggressive in a few matches, it is really unfortunate to see him going through this state and hopefully he will return in time of the world cup.

Coming to Maxwell, I understand your point, but I could notice how over-aggressive he tends to become sometimes. This is why I felt he was having mental issues from sometime. Certain forms of aggression do suggest mental issues and this was one such example.

Sreesanth is already 36 and he will be 37 when the ban period ends. He did the mistake of getting involved in team politics. As far as I know, even in his home state (Kerala), people are very divided about him. Once I talked to one of my colleagues from Kerala. He was very scathing about Sreesanth, saying that he had tarnished the reputation of the people from there. Also, he got involved in national politics as well. I heard that he is very close to one of the Congress leaders (Sasi Tharoor) and even fought elections in 2016 for the ruling party.

I was following his life after the ban, Sreesanth was doing television soap opera and body building and while he was playing he was aggressive in the field and get emotional all the time and i cannot figure out whether someone is having mental break down just by looking at them until he behaves oddly and i did not witnessed that in Maxwell as he was speaking well with the commentators even in the recent matches but when you are a public figure you tend to hide your emotions and Maxwell masked that very well even though he was not in a proper frame of mind.

Maxwell cared a lot about the game and focused on every single mistake deeply. For example: Oct 2018: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xD9oPpHCRqEThis just goes to show his passion and how much he was hurt right there. These mistakes compounded over time which is why he is taking a break now. I do hope he returns as a much better version of himself soon.
