I see that there are many people from Philippies in this thread. I know how passionate about basketball you're, but I don't see how your team can reach next round. Ok, you're probably stronger than Angola, but to reach next round you need to wing against Serbia or Italia, what is hardly possible in my opinion. Anyway, good luck for your team, it would be amazing to see you going further.
I know the Philippines faithfuls would be backing up it's team to go through, and we've got quite a number of them on this thread and on the forum, but I scarcely see how possible that is.

It would indeed be a miracle if they make it to the next round, and if they do, that will be about that for them, but in sports it's hard to predict the future.

But we have odds as our basis, I think they are underdog in every match, so if they can at least snatch one win, that would be a big win for bettors supporting the Philippine team.

Let us wish each other luck, mate! The teams in Group D are not easy opponents, especially Italy and Serbia. While I also support and cheer with crossed fingers for my very own country, I am not expecting them coming out the winner even in the first round.

This might really be another one good year for the Americans.

If anyone is a citizen of Philippines, he should support his country but this does not mean that Philippines should win the cup or even move to the next round. Getting themselves qualified in the world is already a big moment for the Philippines. Maybe in few years they will become capable to win the major tournaments.

USA is a super team so it's a gold for them again. Having 1 or 2 NBA player in one team makes them strong then how about a team consist of NBA player and superstar.

As for my PH team, I fully support them wether they go to 2nd round or not. Their bracket is tough and still long way to go in beating those opponents.

What about the china who is the host country for this world cup ?  Although china never won the FIBA worldcup before but it would be interesting to see their performance in this WC. They are in group A with Cote d'Ivoire, Poland and Venezuela in their pool.

China would advance to the second round as their bracket is not loaded with powerhouse teams plus the fact that they have the home court advantage. They gain good experience with the recently concluded NBA Summer League which can help in their FIBA World Cup campaign though.

They almost made it last time. They had close games with top European teams and they can do it again. I think they can win against Angola and Italy  Cheesy

They may go to the second round but I don't see them going any further than that. They don't have enough athletic or deadly shooters.

The team would be hype because they have an NBA MVP in the rooster, but I would not fall for that hype as basketball is not won by one player only, if we like to find a good rooster, it should be the USA, they don't have an MVP but they have the superstars in the NBA.

As the saying goes, the ball is round, so anything can happen. The US has been upset in the past so it is doable. However, the US is sending their best players after their last defeat like more than 10 years ago if I'm not mistaken.

So I expect another heavy loaded stars from the USA to continue their tradition as the basketball dominant country.

That is we need to expect to make sure US can get the victory to continue basketball dominant. As you said the ball is round so depend on the luck of each team how to get succes for the 2019 FIBA world basketball cup.
Hope my country phillipines can get a chance to go on finals let's be proud of our own country where we reside to support.

What is going on with American national basketball team?
A lot of players have given up from playing for the national team at the World Championships.
Anthony Davis, CJ McCollum, James Harden, Eric Gordon, Tobias Harris, Bradley Beal, Damian Lillard, DeMar DeRozan, Kevin Love and recently Paul Millsap.
It seems that Kyle Lowry is also very close to give up, according to some rumors.
I think that this time Serbia really have good chance to beat USA, what do you think?

NBA is becoming more and more politics every year. And there's no solid reason for any of the NBA stars refusing to play for the national team. Though all of them have some alibi, it's definitely their choice rather than the situation.
As of the winning team, I still don't think USA has any tough competitor for this tournament. With the current double league, only the best teams would reach the Quarters.

USA can still win this but if not, then it will be one of the top European teams.

The first thing I have noticed is the incredible diversity among the teams. There are a total of 32 participants and all the (inhabited) continents are adequately represented. The only missing super-power is Great Britain. My country (India) also failed to qualify, but that was expected. Another thing I have noticed is that the vast majority of the teams have fielded native players, with only a very few including naturalized players (one exception is Italy).

Well, it's called World Cup for a reason  Cheesy
FIBA made sure that each region/continent is well represented.

What is going on with American national basketball team?
A lot of players have given up from playing for the national team at the World Championships.
Personal commitments to other stuffs and maybe some of them are already satisfied with winning the previous tournaments. Don't worry about them, hungrier players will replace them so it's still good.

I am rooting for our home country to go past the first round  Cheesy
USA can still win this but if not, then it will be one of the top European teams.

The first thing I have noticed is the incredible diversity among the teams. There are a total of 32 participants and all the (inhabited) continents are adequately represented. The only missing super-power is Great Britain. My country (India) also failed to qualify, but that was expected. Another thing I have noticed is that the vast majority of the teams have fielded native players, with only a very few including naturalized players (one exception is Italy).

Just like in a Fifa world cup, all the continents are represented, same is the case with basketball world cup. Maybe in future India and Pakistan will represent in the FIBA . It is the famous sports but it is not so popular in Sub-continent.

National basketball team and World Cup isn't big thing in USA and their stars don't feel duty to play for the national team. Many of these players just want to rest or prepare better for upcoming NBA season. Also, they are probably afraid to get injury while playing for the national team. But I expect that next year in the Olympics we will see most of their stars playing.

Maybe in future India and Pakistan will represent in the FIBA . It is the famous sports but it is not so popular in Sub-continent.
It's not going to happen soon. There is no signs that basketball level in India may improve soon and Pakistan don't even have national team. For me it's a bit strange that country with such huge population like India don't have decent basketball and football teams.

So here is the group for the first round:

  • GROUP B
    Russia
    Argentina
    Korea
    Nigeria

Nigeria avoided some of the major European teams, I was keeping not being paired with USA or Spain at this stage. No team is a pushover and the games would still be very tough, however if we do grow into the tournament we could build momentum for a solid run and make good accounts of ourselves.

You are right in near one decade its not going to happen because these countries missing many things even they have not basic set up for many games even they can manage but mostly media and money is going with only Cricket so this sport has very few chances of growing here in this area we can expect from other Asian countries because they are doing some big investments and they have all things which can help them for coming forward.
