Another lopsided loss for Philippine basketball, this time from the powerhouse Serbia which is forseen to be the champion of this year's FIBA world cup. It's about lack of preparation for the Philippines that they have experienced this devastating loss. The Philippine sports committee should look into why this happen and make a move to improve the Philippines basketball team.

They already lost to Italy, that country is rank around 20 or something if I'm not mistaken. So what do you expect for this match as Serbia is rank in the top 5. I don't like to point fingers but it looks like the Philippines needs to overall its sport committee. However, it is really hard to crack the world stage in terms of basketball specially for a country like Philippines though.

They have done their best, it's just that the height advantage is a big difference, Asians are normally small compared to Europian and the Americans, that's why the Philippines got beaten by the height. Philippine also has bigs but they are not faster compared to the bigs of Serbia.

I believe the ultimate success they will have is to win in the FIBA asia where they can compete well, especially against Iran, Korea, Japan, and China.

Prediction of matches of some teams like Philippines is really easy. These teams don't deserve to participate in FIBA world cup. Because they make the matches very predictable and unspectacular. This proves that expanding number of teams from 24 to 32 was a wrong decision which made by FIBA. At least they could give Asia lower spots and give more to Europe. In this way, we could see some teams that deserve to participate in the world cup more than Philippines.

Guys, please dont get me wrong and dont feel offended... but I am surprised you are so disappointed with the Philippine team... I mean, the Philippines have never been a player in world basketball, not even a little?!?
I am not disappointed with the performance of our Philippine team as i understand what they have been through. We are not yet on the level of the European teams even though that basketball is like a religion here. As i said before, being in the FIBA World Cup is the goal of the Philippine team and a win is just a bonus and those guys who expect too much out from Gilas, don't know basketball.

Today also we have a total of 8 matches, including some involving powerhouses such as the United States and Greece. This round is also very crucial for teams such as Germany and Brazil. Here comes my prediction for today's matches:

Australia vs Senegal: Australia
Montenegro vs New Zealand: New Zealand
Germany vs Dominican Rep: Germany
Japan vs Czech Rep: Czech Rep
Lithuania vs Canada: Lithuania
Brazil vs Greece: Greece
USA vs Turkey: USA
Jordan vs France: France

Today, the maximum chances for an upset comes from the France vs Jordan match. Jordanians played really well during their last match (against DR) while France struggled against Germany.

From a fan's perspective the Philippines defeat with Serbia against Italy is a much worst thing to see for any fan. Not only they removed their chances of proceeding to the next stage but the game itself is pretty awful to see. You definitely cannot see any kind of teamwork and you will see a lack of coordination, they look like each player is just trying to score for himself.

This current roster never had a fighting chance. I don't know if it's because of the usual "smaller"/"lack of preparation" excuse or it's just the poor coaching. Not so long ago, the previous Philippine roster was able to push a lot of these top European teams and almost beating some.

It's more of being sad or feeling sorry for them a bit rather than being disappointed. Well, any fan would want to see their team win or even advance to the next round, right? But, this is not their time yet. And yeah, as what @bisdak40 said, their goal is to play in the FIBA World Cup and it was achieved. Surely, there is a lack of something that didn't allow them to win but playing against the big guys in the world stage for their nation is something to take pride of.

I agree with you on France here.  I see the NEW YORK KNICKS Frank Bryan dominating on the shooting end for the French team.

Did you watch the Dominican Republic vs Jordan match? Jordan was really good, although they eventually lost by a small margin. Ahmet Düverioğlu performed exceptionally well and scored an unbelievable 34 points. Darquavis Tucker also chipped in with two dozen points. Also, note that I have predicted a victory by France, at the same time outlining the chances of an upset by Jordan. There is a small chance of upset, because I believe that France is not in top form right now.

And the odds do look very attractive. Jordan is currently at 66/1, and in my opinion there is no harm in betting a small amount on a promising team with such large odds. I would say betting for Jordan against France looks much more attractive than betting for Turkey against the United States (currently at 25/1).

I can't wait until the second round starts, Greece will be facing USA there and that will decide on the cup a bit. I have watched USA beat Czechia and they did beat them with 21 points which was a lot of points but we are talking about Czechia here, I know they are not as horrible as some other teams but USA should have beat them much more.

I started watching I think on third quarter and for the first 4 minutes of the quarter USA either had 1-2 baskets that I can't remember but I swear it felt like they had zero, than all of a sudden some players took it upon themselves and started to score like crazy. The team tries to be a "team" but they fail miserably, whenever it turns to iso play they start to play very well because they are all better than the opponent, just not as a team.

I agree, I think they are focusing on Asia and are really doing good. But in the big stage such as this one, they almost fall short. Anyways, yes they did their best and nothing to be ashamed off here. European are too big and too fast as well plus they are also exposed on high level of basketball in NBA.

Guys, please dont get me wrong and dont feel offended... but I am surprised you are so disappointed with the Philippine team... I mean, the Philippines have never been a player in world basketball, not even a little?!?
The Philippine team can go against basketball players in Asia, but not players outside of that. Maybe they (Philippine team) need to change their line up to match those players in FIBA. And besides they are not supposed to be surprised with the outcome, remember the President of the Philippines Rodrigo Duterte is not even cheering for them.

It's not about the line-up, come one man, can't you see it's about the program on which PH basketball is dealing with? They are prioritizing the professional league rather than the honor for playing for their country. There are lots of quality players in this nation but did not participate for reasons we don't know.

@bryant.coleman, I also don't see any chances for Jordan to win against France. Yeah, they had solid game against Dominican Republic (but lost it), but France is completely different level team and they are going to win by at least 20 points.
Australia with huge difficulties vs Senegal in the first half: 36:33
Australia won just by 13 points 81:68 and they pretty much controlled whole game. But I'm surprised about Senegal performance, today they were completely different team than in match against Lithuania.
And we are having very close game - New Zealand have just 3 point advantage against Montenegro and at the end of 3rd Q. It should be interesting end of match.

Yeah, I am also watching Montenegro-New Zealand and I placed a bet on Montenegro +4.5 when they were down 9. They are the better team in my opinion and they just cant afford to loose!

Everyday I am picking one match having the maximum chances of an upset and for today I have picked France vs Jordan. I know that the chances are very low. I just studied today's one-sided matches: 1. Australia vs Senegal 2. USA vs Turkey 3. Jordan vs France. IMO, the other five matches are not one-sided. Out of the three matches that I had listed, I thought that the only match in which there is a real chance of an upset is #3, however small that probability is. There is no realistic chance of Senegal defeating Australia or Turkey beating the United States.

Yeah, I am also watching Montenegro-New Zealand and I placed a bet on Montenegro +4.5 when they were down 9. They are the better team in my opinion and they just cant afford to loose!

New Zealand pulled ahead now (75-69), but it can swing either way with more than 5 minutes remaining. Very exciting match, but I think New Zealand will pull this through. And the Germany vs Dominican Republic match is a nail-biter. Germany is leading by two points (49-47), and it can go either way.

Some unreal scores so far, I didnt think Montenegro would loose like this. Also Germany sucks big time vs Dominican Republic.
