Serbs did not respond well to adversity, especially Jokic who lost his cool and was ejected on what was clearly a foul against him. Looking at the bright side, this loss could serve as a wake-up call for them, not everything will be a cake-walk from here on now.

The ejection of Jokic cost them the game. It was a close match in the first half and when Jokic was thrown out of the game that's when Spain took advantage of. Also Ricky Rubio played well for their team.

Ricky Rubio make things possible for team Spain together with the entire team they simply take advantage of not having Jokic to push the Serbian, it's always depends from how the entire players work together and play harder to win against the favorite, expect more from this team to work more and be deserve meeting up to the finals.

I would be on the Czech here for the x4 on my money and it would not be an upset if they will win this game. Crazy FIBA World cup so far, fans expectations and assumptions getting derailed and one of those is that USA and Serbia will meet in the semis not in the finals (if ever they meet). Spain would be taking the easier way to they finals and they are at 6.60 odds at the bookies right now, worth the take.

Greece is stronger team and has in its squad the best player in the world. Czech Republic has shown great performance in this tournament but we should not forget that its roster is not the best in the tournament.

First Serbia need to beat Argentina in the quarter finals. Looking at their horrific performance during the match against Spain, even that looks doubtful. BTW, today's US vs Brazil match can be interesting as well. Brazil already have one upset against their name (vs Greece). BTW, the opponents for US in the quarter finals can be either France or Australia (depending on the results of today's match).

Greek fans and esp. efialtis must be devastated right now. You just couldn't pull it through in the end even though having 12pts lead in early 4th q.  Giannis getting fouled out and some silly fouls/tech fouls might have just cost you the needed win. I thought the spark and energy provided by Thanasis at the end the 3rd q would be enough for Greece to take command over the game...guess not.

Non taken, I wasn't just aware of there's a quotient system in this game.
I am also not betting on the Greece because they are overrated, and yeah, I was right because they weren't able to beat the Czech Republic by double digit.

The important thing here for Giannis is the experience and he should learn from that. Greece will be back a better team next time, we know that.

FIBA in terms of regulations have a big difference from NBA, adjustment needs to workout  by players who plays  representing their National teams.

Even if you lose games in FIBA, don't feel too bad. It's just a downfall on you. You can learn a lot from experience in playing. That was an international basketball match. Strong players from different parts of the globe were gathered. Not just Giannis and his brother. All of Greece team. But, don't get me wrong, there's a guy that stands out on that match. He's white and a good three point shooter. I just don't know who he was.

What a pity for Greece. There started with high expectations and they finished this way.
They made a good try against Czech Republic but they lost their qualification in the match against Brazil.
Congratulations to Giannis that showed who is the best player in the world, even when the rest of the Greek players outperformed.

This happens when you don't invite best refrees to the tournament. Most of referees in World Cup simply have not enough experience to work at such high level tournaments.

I agree and I felt bad for you in France vs Lithuania... Regarding Greece, yes we played a bad tournament all in all but still... we were big time today. And yes, congrats to Czech Republic, its great for them - its still somewhat strange to see a team advance which is just worse...

To sum up the Greek tragedy: Giannis is a great player, he is MVP, he is definitely not the best player in the world though and even more so, he is not a player to decide and win matches on his own, especially not outside of the NBA - he is just not a shooter and big scorer... Plus our coaching staff didnt find ways to integrate Giannis as good as possible. Sloukas played a bad tournament, Calathes today played the match of his life with the National team but it wasnt enough.

All in all, you just cannot compare todays Greece with the team consisting of Spanoulis, Diamantidis, Papaloukas, Fotsis etc. back in the day. Maybe we as Greeks have to realize that we really are far away from the Elite - around 8th-10th place, this might be where we belong.
