There is 100%  huge difference between a yearly FIBA and the Olympics (held every 4 years). On the yearly FIBA event most super stars usually take their vacations, stay healthy  and let the young guns play.

The US squad is always and will always be super star studded in an Olympic event. Expect the likes of KD, Harden, LBJ, Leonard and the other biggest names to join providing they are healthy. An NBA player also wants a piece of that Olympic Gold medal as part of their pride and honor.

Even with just 3 big names in the NBA will play, the USA team will still be the best team in the Olympics.
Durant, Lebron, and Harden, these are the best players for me, and I'm sure they can give a win for the USA in the olympics but of course, they will be more focus on the olympics so they can always add more great players like Curry and Thompson so they will have a bigger chance to dominate.

I just don't understand why even one of the biggest names in the USA have not played in the just concluded FIBA world cup...

Totally well deserved win from Spain against Argentina.
The argentinian team was unable to pass the ball down the basket, the position which Scola was playing.
They tried from long shots but Campazzo was unable to follow Spanish playing is their scoring stats.

They can't dictate the game because Spain are also good in running the floor and Spain defended the Argentina really well especially in the inside.
There is a big mismatch in terms of length since Spain squad are bigger and they have a legit Center who is an NBA champion.

Better luck next time for Argentina, but I don't think it will be easy for them to enter in the Finals again as for sure USA will have a different squad which is way better than the squad now that was eliminated in the quarter finals.

Yes,  in american culture medals from olimpic games have much bigger value than medals in world cup,  american cup etc.
So,  professional players in some sports,  like basketball, may skip world cup but no way they will skip olimpic games.
After such bad result in the world cup public pressure to win olimpic games will be even bigger 😁

Lost BTC0.01 after betting for Argentina. After watching so many upsets, I thought that there was a real chance of a win by the Latin Americans. But what we got in the end was a completely lop sided match. Anyway congrats to Spain, who performed amazingly to win the tournament.

Lose the same amount too. But it's a thrilling lose since the bet was placed after the Final 4 was completed. Meaning Argentina needs to pass first the much dominant France. And upset happen that give me much more chances to hit that high decent odds in FIBA Futures.

Already knows and accept that Argentina might not able to beat the likes of France and Spain (and even Serbia) but I'm surprised at what they did from the start of the tournament so this kind of risky bet is really worth to put a shot. And I'm sure no one even thinks that they will be on the Finals.

It's just that, I didn't feel the intensity of the finals. I'm hoping for a close match even how dominant France is.

I'm expected Davis, Lebron, Kyrie, Durant (if he will be healthy that time), Westbrook, Harden,and Kawhi, those are just names that entered in my mind, but they are better compared to the line up that played in the FIBA WC, USA will protect their reputation, they will not take this lightly and they will continue to earn that championship again.

No need for those superstars to come back. Let the young guns revenge this failed rally and get the title next World Cup.

4 years from now, obviously these young guns will be improved and more matured. They will now be on their prime in 2023 FIBA World Cup. Some of them might become a Superstar. As Popovich already mentioned, it's not with their lineup why they lose.

The current lineup of the Team USA will be deadly for sure in the next FIBA World Cup.

Finals match was kind of boring to watch. I was expecting it to be intense like the Australia vs. Spain or close to that level. Kudos to team Spain for shutting down Scola. No doubt that he was the one that drives the Argentina team and when he was unable to produce, his teammates could not step up.

I disagree that it was a boring match. People who rarely watch national games or euroleague may find it boring but in reality that is how European teams play, Argentina is not Europe but they have been playing at high levels for too long and know how the game works here, thats why sometimes USA loses, I know its rare but when it happens 99% of the time its because USA is not prepared for that type of style.

That is why I love watching European cups, national or just teams, it brings out all the fundamentals of basketball that I love.

You missed the context on why I said it was boring (quoted - in bold letters). I never mentioned about the style of play. I am well aware of the difference in playing style between the NBA and the European leagues.

Why think of that? They have their own reason not to play.

Team USA loses because France did well. It's not because of the absence of their NBA superstars.

For a monster team like Team USA, the reasoning of why they lose because of that is not acceptable. They have high standards in choosing players on their nationals. Other teams no doubt did great and I'm more seeing that as a reason why the Team USA loses. Disrespect, if we consider France or any other teams that beat USA is just pure of luck.

This has been discussed and some of those names have their personal choice and reasons or to prepare for the upcoming season. We will see how USA will react to the next world cup.

One thing is for sure after this World Cup I know that the USA and the NBA will change their views on not sending their stars anymore, they assumed that if they send a few quality players and some benchwarmers is enough to play competitively in the world scene but even that is not enough for them to defeat Serbia in the fourth place. Congratulation for Spain with their easy win against Argentina I just hope in the next world cup other countries would still be competitive and will still have the ability to defeat USA even if they have a good line up in the future.

This is just not the case why do people keep saying this?  It wasnt the US or the NBA that did not send their best players, 35 were originally asked, only 4 of those players accepted.  You think coach Pop wants to run out brook Lopez and Mason Plumlee on the court instead of a Davis and Kawhi?  The basketball world cup is just not that big of a deal in the US maybe it's a culture thing

A very good effort by Spanish team and they deserve this as they done very good from start till end now they have many good teams  and very good players in Tennis but still they are not good enough in many as some other Europeans have very good athletes and in many other sports they are well behind and need some very long way to touch them.

Talking about the Olympic games as a whole, they are on different levels. But we're on the FIBA basketball world cup and let's appreciate how they did well on this big tournament that's held once in few years.

Too bad for the Philippines they are in the last position now because they played a worst basketball this year.
On the other hand, USA is just rank number 7 because they loss against France and Serbia, what a big drop for this team, they need to make major changes as they are suppose to be in the top 3 in case they fail since we have big expectation from Team USA which was previously rank number 1.

I don't think the NBA has something to do with the players decision on pulling out of the national roster, it's players personal decision and purely business decision for them, i think they lack the patriotism or the US just have so many players to choose from that the superstars are not oblige to join the national team.

Spain, Serbia and the rest of the teams that competed in the recent FWC was deprived of the opportunity of playing with the best because US is not sending it's best team yet. Maybe it's a different story on the Olympics as NBA superstars are contemplating on joining the national team after it's dismal showing in the FWC.

This 2019 FIBA World Cup US Team is perhaps the least colorful and also the weakest that the country has composed and sent to battle since the time the US started admitting NBA players in its roster. While other countries normally send their best players in the sports, the US did not. This team seems to represent the old years of the US team which was usually composed of military or collegiate players.

But I highly doubt I can see the same lineup come 2020 Tokyo Olympics. I am seeing the likes of Curry in there. The US has still the best team in the world when it comes to basketball. They are still my favorite for the Olympics.
