Its not a waste of money if you consider time is money and lottery allows the best return to time spent to engage the gamble.   Its the worst game for anyone who plays for entertainment because there is only really the time they read out the numbers and how long can that take to do really.

You are not alone bro, I am not into lotteries because I see it as a total waste of money. It takes 1 among 10,000 players that get a lottery ticket to win and it annoying. Why would I commit my money into a game I am very much aware would not be easy to win. This is simply the reason I do not play at all. It has completed zero chance of winning.

It is not a total waste if those lottery is own by the government. In our country a percentage of our lottery's profit helps the poor people in their hospital bills. It's just a matter of preference and what type of gambling you enjoy. In the end all of them is just based on luck.

One main reason I can think of is probably low stakes, high rewards. Yeah I remember when the lottery in our country was still a legal gambling game provided by the government. I was a kid at that time but I know it since my father and many neighbors always participate on that lottery. Basically lottery is a fun and attractive game except the one which are popping up in this gambling industry in the last few years. Lottery which is just like a raffle is not attractive enough for most people because the prize depends on how many tickets are sold. I've never heard of people who play the lottery over anything else, though I guess some people get obsessed with it and gamble with blinders on, being insistent and forgetting about anything else.
I know more gamblers who avoid the lottery because it's all low odds and no real skill.
Most of the people I know who do lotteries just do it with pocket change for a while until they decide on a better game. Even slots are better than a lottery.
