Count me in! I was considering the same thing.. small Fee for participation. 5-20 bucks sounds reasonable to me, will accept whatever community decides. last time you guys had around 10-15ish participants, i wasn't part of it but after World Cup pool experience, i am looking forward for IPL too.

Let me make a list as we progress of the interested users and so far the list have:

We need to find an affordable number for everyone and if we can manage a sponsor then it will be nice. I have cloudbet (not seeing Ronnie from long time though) and Sportsbet.io in mind but anyone is open to come up with an amount and can sponsor the pool.

Edit: I have updated my signature space with the link of this post with the hope of some exposure of this proposal. If we all can try some exposure from our own power then our chances to get more participants will increase of course.

No, it's in total. Once you will understand once you will see the superbru pool format.

Basically for every mach you guess the outcome and there are point for correct guess. After the tournament the user who will score the highest point he will be the pool leader. Then we will have 2nd place and 3rd place etc.

Let me know your proposed entry fee once you have a good grip of the information.

I think there are not many interest for BBL. I even do not have any idea about the teams too. This is why, I think last year we did not go for that too. Currently there are BPL in progress but as usual there are not many people following that, even not me too. IPL is the one which seems everyone is interested in.

I am not sure about all the different teams that are playing the IPL nor the BPL but i usually watch particular players that are able to perform and since we have a discussion well before the tournament i think i will have a clear picture about the team composition, these tournaments have a transfer window every season right and is that over to know the full members in every team or is it yet to happen.

There were sponsors and volunteers last year and if you are not able to get the sponsors then what is the point in running a competition and hence a nominal fee does not hurt anyone, even if the joining fee will be 0.001BTC and if we have ten players then it will be a decent amount that goes to the winner and anyone can spare those amounts i guess.

I'm interested to join in the pool. I guess IPL will be a great one for having a competitive pool. I guess a fee in BTC would be much fair. It can be 1 mBTC, or higher. Lower than 1 mBTC will not make the pool much bigger as you know there are not much people who would be interested in a paid pool.

So why didn't you spare the amount and nominate yourself in the pool till now ? Also how can you be so sure that there will be be no sponsor this time around ? In the free pool last year there were around 20 members so i doubt you will make it to ten players with paid pool.

Is it not too obvious to understand that i am willing to spare 0.001BTC for the pool, do you really want to have an agreement to understand that . Oh well since some of you have difficulty in understanding things, i am willing to give 0.001BTC as pool entry , hope you are happy now because i made things easier so that even kids would understand .

Well, big bash league may not be of much interest here. I did not know anyone who is from Australia here ?
But before the IPL, we have the PSL tournament which has two advantages. First most of the people have interest in it and secondly it's duration is shorter as compare to  IPL, so it will be good if we can have a PSL pool before the IPL one. But again it depends upon the Royse and people here who want this pool or not. (sometimes i feel i am too patriotic.. )

0.001 to 0.002 BTC turns out to be between 7 - 15 dollars. If you are deciding the pool amount, make it count in dollars and not in terms of satoshi.
By the time IPL will start, that is about 3 - 4 months from now, the bitcoin price could be quite high with halving coming in June.  0.001 may well be between 17 -20$ at that time.

Agree with @deadley and @Haunebu that its bit early to talk about the IPL but IMO its doesn't hurt us to create little hype for IPL pool and its comes handy when there is some sort of participation fees because the last 2 pool (IPL and World Cup) were free to join.

Yeah you are right on your case but we have to keep our mind open that there might be some users who thinks 20 bucks are big amount to spend in some Inter-web cricket community (putting it respectfully) and rightly so because it depends on the individual budget or pocket. We have tiny community and i personally don't want any good user to left out only because of fees.

An entry of 15$ to 30$ will be fine for me  Anything below 10$ will be too low IMHO, but I'll join irrespective of the fees if it's not above 30$.

I guess almost everyone who is active in cricket discussion is in a Signature Campaign, so I think it wouldn't hurt to pay a week's payout as an entry fee for the pool
Even though my Sig Campaign pay is less, I can afford up to 30$ for the fun

Maybe a bit too early to make this thread IPL has more than 6 months but still I would like to join it. I think $5-$10 is enough. Problem is that IPL doesn't actually has that much craze on this forum so more or less we are those same 5-6 people who discuss cricket in ODI, TEST & T20 Threads. yeah 0.001 seems quite legit to me. It is around $7 and won't really hurt a lot of people.

Did you read my post properly? I mentioned "Current Price" which is why I was obviously referring to $7 - $15 and that is also why you need to get your eyes checked.

I agree, but the fact is that many gambling signature campaign members never actually gamble and only pretend to for obvious reasons which is why I think that the entry fee should not be too low. $7 - $15 seems right in my opinion.

Thanks for your support. I would like to start the PSL pool but sometimes i feel i won't be able to do justice with it because i am not online often as you are on this forum and it needs time which is difficult to manage with my offline activities. But this does not mean i am out of it , the idea is in back of my mind and lets see if i can bring it into reality.

Superbru is the best option like we did for IPL last year. Just checked in google, the tournament is starting from 20 Feb

Hey guys. Joining in on the discussion now. Thanks to JSRAW for pointing me to this thread. I haven't joined the TG yet as I am still getting the hang of this. I prefer that I get to know a little bit first before i just drop in and start asking noob questions. I think if i ask those noob questions here, it'd be helpful to others too.

I see that mutual betting threads started with the world cup and IPL and you guys would have wanted to have wider participation. It'd be great if we can lower the entry barrier in terms of information as well as entry fee in the beginning. As a newcomer to this, i feel i don't have enough direction. For example, I have no idea how mutual betting will work. I know i should start with registering the superbru app but it all feels too much self-navigation. I suggest that it'd be awesome if someone experienced can ELI5 things a bit for everyone. For example:

1. What is a mutual betting pool?
2. What do i place my bets on? Match results? Player rankings?
3. How do i win or lose?
4. Even if i don't care about winning or losing, whats the fun part in it?

Sorry if these questions sound like an imposition to someone, please rest assured, they are not. This is just an honest viewpoint from someone completely new to this but interested. I hope that this would also give the newbie's perspective to Royse and JSRAW who are leading the effort to build a community here.

There was no entry fees for Previous pool (IPL and WC), they were open to everybody. Some perks as hanging out with other cricket fans and few drawback as well, such as small amount of prize and attracting fair amount of spammers. First IPL pool prize was sponsored by Royse and World Cup pool by Royse, Me, Pffrt and Ronnie ( Cloudbet - Free spins for Round winners).

Entry fees for upcoming IPL pool which is schedule in End March ( 28th march) is open to discussion and not fixed yet. So far 7 members are interested in Paid Pool (All amount is for Prize pool ) and i believe more members will join us in the conversation next month. if we reach close to 15 participants then we can say that job well done.

For mutual pools you don't need to register in superbru. superbru is for IPL or any ICC tournament only. As of now "Mutual betting pool" is for interested parties to bet among themselves here in Bitcointalk.

Match results only. Royce tried the multibet bet on the same match but that experiment kinda failed because no one won the single round ( Royse was bookie)

So far only 3 Market to chose in mutual pools: Regular over Win - Tie - Win so its simple opt for right one.

As far as i understand Mutual pools for single game are another experiment for Royse just to keep community engage and checking the waters. I with few members  supporting him by participating in every experiment. not much fun due to low number of participants but sometimes we get to rub each other face when someone lose, Okay experience i would say. if this mutual pool experiment fails in a longer run then he might come up with new one or not? Depends on him and community.

IMO, Its small price if things go south. If i have to make wild guess then it shouldn't be more than 5-10% of IPL revenue, as BCCI revenue model based on TV rights. In BCCI point of view Play off ticket revenue goes to franchise anyway  , BCCI main concern should be Qualifier games, that's where they make shitload amount of money.

May be or may be authorities taking necessary precautions but numbers are going up, slowly but going up.. last i read there were around 70+ cases. At start majority of cases were Italians tourist (16).

Update on IPL, i posted in T-20 thread. Sport ministry basically said that if games are held in empty stadium then they don't have any problems. Gov already told that major gathering is not safe at any cost.

^^ I didn't heard any official statement so far but as of now India is in complete lockdown for 21 days so no one thinking about sport or cricket anymore. 99% chances are "No IPL" this year.

However I also feel that after 21 days lockdown if things started to recover then the entire nation will focus on rebuilding the damage that has been done and expecting IPL or any big sports may be a luxury considering the time?

This is from Ganguly which means he has not made any final decision yet.

We can forget IPL this year, looking way too tough now. Might be good idea to lock the thread for time being.

I will look/wait for the official statement from India cricket board before locking this thread. May this will be the best instead of speculating. However I also feel that after 21 days lockdown if things started to recover then the entire nation will focus on rebuilding the damage that has been done and expecting IPL or any big sports may be a luxury considering the time?

First of all there are 8 teams and they play each other twice, home and away format. Now most probably it will be in format where matches will be reduces to 1 against each team. Main problem in September, all International players will be busy in duty of their national team, so BCCI board searching option where mostly players will be available. May be 15-20 days IPL instead of 50 days.

-If IPL starts at 16 April - Total 46 days and 60 matches tournament - 14 matches per team - 17 afternoon fixtures
-If IPL starts at 20 April - Total 42 days and 44 matches tournament - 10 matches per team
-If IPL starts at 1st May - Total 31 days and 32 matches tournament - 7 matches per team - 6 afternoon fixtures

* Only 5-6 dedicated venue depending on clearance.
* 1st May seems last window.

This plan came out last week and situation changed completely with in a week. so yeah you might be spot on.

So it's basically reducing 7 matches (again if my match is correct) but main concern will be the fitness of the players. With the busy international schedule (those who will be international team of-course) the player will struggles.

There are no official decision yet I think. But if they need to have one with only one match against each others in the group stage then I will be voting for cancellation. I know I will not enjoy it much.

I wouldn't say that the condition is improving. India is still in the early stages of an outbreak. Currently, the growth rate is around 1.2 as mentioned by the media hence Modi (Prime Minister) announced a 21-day lockdown starting 25 March to 15 April. Prior to that, we had a lockdown on 22nd March(Sunday) except for that almost everyone was going to work and the cities were crowded as usual. Even after the lockdown, in my State(13 during lockdown), since the numbers are low, individuals are completely irresponsible and were all roaming in the streets without proper awareness (Now its 29).  But Police and Revenue staffs have been employed to reduce the movement of the masses. Neighbouring states are doing ok except for Kerala with the lockdown. As of now, I can't say that conditions are improving if the growth rate is not curtailed, India may even surpass US and Italy  Btw, being a Revenue Staff, I have 1-day duty on 31st. Let's see how this goes.

Edit: As per covid19india.org/, the number is still growing I see no improvement. 61 new cases today.

LOL... Is it possible to have the IPL in Q4 2020, and then another edition just 3-4 months later? Do you expect the other cricket boards to agree to this? Also, there will be some viewer fatigue. Probably there will be no sport even across the world for the next 3 months at least because the damage done by corona affected many countries people's economy so they are not in a situation to spend money on entertainment even if the situation allows to conduct sport events.

India is one of the largest populated country so no wonder they will surpass US, Italy or china if they really do not take it seriously. It's not only in India but in others countie in East side. And problem here is that the authority will have not control if it spreads exponentially. They will not have proper equipment even to test the patients. My understanding is that most of the people live under poverty and they do not have any sort of medical insurance.

You can see other countries already has their own T-20 leagues to run and in between everybody has International / Bilateral cricket commitment as well. So i would be very surprise if IPL moves into Q3 or Q4. Its safe to say No_IPL this year.

Edit : And don't forget we have T-20 world too this year (Oct). Even WC could get cancel if situation gets out of the hand.

And additionally, any mini-IPL this year can have a negative impact on the revenues for next year (for IPL 2021). It's not rocket science. All Sourav Ganguly has to do, is to call a press conference and inform that the IPL for this year is cancelled. They need to reimburse the sponsors, franchises and the players. But given how vast their reserves are, I don't think that it is going to be a problem for the BCCI.

The article also took hope from the fact that Tokyo 2020 is going to be held as scheduled, which is now postponed.

If we move any tournaments, there will be lot overlapping between the tournaments and some players may not be available for some tournaments. Since we have cricket all over they year, there is no free space where tournaments can be shifted. The only option is to cancel the tournaments which cannot be played on the scheduled time.

Star Sports purchased the IPL right at a rate of $510 million per year. I am not sure how much of it will be reimbursed by the insurers, but the BCCI is going to take a huge hit. Adding in the franchise fees and sponsorship, the total loss may exceed $1 billion. I am not sure about the insurance deductibles and limits, but I guess BCCI will have to bear at least 50% of the losses (someone please correct me in case I'm wrong).

Yeah, otherwise high density cities could turn into war-zone situation. take the recent example of migrant workers who are facing their worst nightmare in Delhi. Before Delhi-UP were trying to ignore them due to their petty political ego, lack of responsibility, miscommunication or whatever the %4#% reasons. How can the insurance companies run away from this and do not cover the coronavirus ? The life insurance or medical insurance covers everything including coronavirus. Now these insurance companies seems to be in trouble as number of deaths started to increase. I think government should take action on it and players insurance should be protected against coronavirus.

If you remember, the PSL last few matches were played without any spectators , but there were also not risk free. We had the news that one of the Players of a certain league showed the symptoms of coronavirus and the tournament was immediately stopped.
The idea of playing without spectators is good one, but this virus is far more dangerous and no player would want to take any risk.

Thanks for the concern. My work will be ensuring the proper movement of essential goods and services in the state, mostly supervising work. So, I guess that I would be roaming around the city in the vehicle allotted. And I heard that the vehicles are disinfected daily and that they will provide masks.  But the one thing that I learned is that using N95 Masks/Respirators are not advisable to be used unless you are a health care personnel, who attend to the infected or having respiratory issues. It just gives you false hope to the user and unnecessary usage will only result in the hike of mask prices. The most effective recommendation from WHO is maintaining hand hygiene and social distancing. This would be the most possible outcome. Earlier it was discussed that to avoid Players travel across states, the matches are to be restricted to Maharastra as the state has 3 stadiums in Mumbai and 1 in Pune. But at the moment, Maharastra reports the highest number of COVID 19 affected cases in the Country. With the current increasing numbers, I believe the nationwide lockdown in India until April 14 will be extended and we'll have to forget IPL for this year.

Its now very clear that there will be no IPL this year. The world is unable to deal with coronavirus and i doubt that we can even see any sports for 3 -4 money after the virus disappeared, as a precautionary measure.

Possibly without any spectators it may happens but we are not sure how long it will take to completely eradicate this virus.And also more research coming that corona 19 can end up as seasonal attack like sars so it may disappears as how it appears in most unexpected way but at the same time it may attack the people next season which maybe months or years.

If you remember, the PSL last few matches were played without any spectators , but there were also not risk free. We had the news that one of the Players of a certain league showed the symptoms of coronavirus and the tournament was immediately stopped.
The idea of playing without spectators is good one, but this virus is far more dangerous and no player would want to take any risk.

I am not saying that we need to have IPL at the moment without any spectators, oly if virus is under control and there is no more lockdown situation still tournaments have to be played without spectators.

Of course, I am going to use the mask when they are given by the Government for free. But, COVID 19 ranges < 0.2 microns and travels via aerosols particles of the size range 0.5 - 3 microns resultant from coughing or sneezing, while the respirators can only filter particles >0.3 microns. Maybe it will block the aerosols not the virus. I believe that it's a common misconception that masks/respirators are going to protect us from viruses.

What I am aware of is tha the virus is the size of 1/5 of water molecule, so mask is useless if you think it will prevent you from this virus but, it is beneficial to others if you already have the virus and do not want others to have it. The only preventive measure that you can take is to stop putting your hand on you face. Which of course is difficult as we tend to put our hands 23 times on our face in one hour.

That's why the emphasis is on cleaning our hands constantly with sanitizer or soap.

This Article and numbers focus on contract only so annual contract is not solid criteria for complete picture IMO if we are analyzing total income.

Indian cricketers earn less in annual contract but their majority of income comes from endorsement and this not apply for foreign cricketers, for example if we check Virat's annual income then he earns approx $20-24 M annually alone from endorsements (We can add annual contract too)so they are okay with it. In comparison Steve Smith only earn $4-5 Million and Australian players were fighting with CA ( 2017-2018 salary dispute which was led by David warner) over annual salary because they don't gets much endorsements.

Nope... I never said that the Indian players are underpaid. That is how the system in India works.

In India, we have 37 first-class sides and each of these sides have U-16, U-19, U-23 and Women's teams. The domestic cricket structure in India is huge, and it is almost 10 times the size of any other nation. The BCCI has to support huge number of players (many thousands) and they need to pay for facilities, scorers, umpires, curators.etc. So the national players are paid a smaller percentage of the total revenues when compared to the other countries.

In Australia, they have only 6 first-class sides. So a larger proportion of the revenues can be paid to the national players. That said, Indian players earn much more than the Australians or the Brits, from various sponsorship and endorsements.

Doesn't sound too cool TBH. Who will verify that Sportsbet isn't cheating? I know they are such a reputed site that they won't go cheating but still as long as you don't have any clue whether they are cheating or not, I wouldn't recommend to bet.

I don't want the smaller states to be dominated by players who are not from their ethnic background. For example, I have seen teams such as Meghalaya and Chandigarh, with hardly 2-3 native players in their playing XI. This may have a negative impact on the growth of cricket in these states. BCCI postponed IPL to 15 April. Sourav Ganguly was Exploring possibilities for IPL 2020, but that was one month ago. BCCI postponed IPL to 15 April. Sourav Ganguly was Exploring possibilities for IPL 2020, but that was one month ago. Things have changed a lot in these 30 days and the coronavirus situation has become more worse than before. I think he will postponed the IPL to next year. There are not much choices left for him.

Correct it will get postponed indefinitely or get cancelled because the situation has become very bad in India. Nearly 1000 positive cases being reported within the last 24 hours and the government still says India has not yet reached stage 3.

What else I can do, while sitting at home? On weekdays, I have to work from 9:30 am to 6:00 pm and it is not possible to stay away from laptop for extended period during this time. We keep monitoring developments. At the present moment, we can’t say anything. And what is there to say anyway? Airports are shut, people are stuck at home, offices are locked down, nobody can go anywhere. And it seems this is how it’s going to be till the middle of May.

Tell me one thing. Firstly, if Australia is under lockdown for six months, how can we conclude that they will allow their players to travel from next month right away? What if the travel restrictions for its citizens are still in place. How will they come to India then? And don't forget that other boards also need to agree. Even if we are in a position to conduct a tournament, for international players, we need to give them a bare minimum time to do full-fledged training before we can start a tournament. All these factors can only be clear when we are in a position to discuss.

By the end of that month, all of India except the far West will be having frequent rains. I don't know how the BCCI is planning to conduct IPL under such conditions. Pakistan has not announced yet but we are also happy to host the IPL this year in our country with few of our own rules. 

Number 1 rule will be that each IPL team will contain atleast two cricketers from Pakistan.

There is no improvement in the situation here in India and even today we are having more than a thousand new cases. The number of new cases are increasing on a day by day basis and from 20th April there may be another major spike thanks to the relaxation in lockdown.

They have used the term "suspended" to give them some sort of margin and hope if the situation become better later in the year. If they would have cancelled the tournament, they might have to pay a big price and the fans would be disappointed too. By using the term postponed, they have kept the hopes alive.

This is simply political announcement by BCCI as they are not giving up and right now they are unable to have any good news about this so just because of this they are giving statement like this its suspended not cancelled even every one know this year its very difficult as now time is running out and we have no window for this.

Clearly they are still hoping that they might find some window for IPL. Other than that i don't see any explanation behind suspension announcement.

Just an attempt to boost their revenues a bit by hosting IPL in Srilanka, But I don't think we'll have IPL this year as I don't see a gap in the yearly calendar.

Yeah it's tough and their motivation is revenue but it's win win situation for both bcci and SLC if it happens. They do have less than 250 covid-19 cases so far. Interestingly they are not pushing for SL vs ENG test series which got cancelled.

Trivandrum does have one international ground but BCCI don't use this venue much. Punjab and UP (along with Delhi-Mumbai) are not going to entertain IPL in their backyard at this time. Shimoga district  does have cricket stadium but not sure if they are capable of hosting any international game. Can't comment on Assam.

Oh, come on. Trivandrum is not a rural area. It might not be a metropolitan but it's definitely one of the best cities to live and work. And yeah Trivandrum has a stadium called University Stadium. Actually they are two adjoining stadiums belonging to the Kerala University, the oldest one which hosted few international matches in the 1980s is a bit small and no longer used for International sports. The new one was built with international standards in the year 2015 and have hosted a T20 and an ODI match as of now.

So in case they schedule a tournament during October or November this year, then there will be a lot of viewer fatigue and the TV revenues will go down massively for the next year's edition. The Sponsors are in favor of a longer IPL, with two additional teams and a total of 90 matches (each of the teams playing 18 matches). But the problem is that the existing franchises are against this idea. They argue that it may dilute the franchise value. The solution to this is to divide franchise fee from the two new teams between the 8 existing franchises. But then, the BCCI may not be very happy to part with $700-800 million.

Whether they like it or not, these are the facts that BCCI should take in to account:

1. IPL is not possible this year
2. Other cricket boards are in much worse state, when compared to the BCCI
3. Even other sports bodies in India don't have the sort of reserve funds that BCCI have access to.
