Good morning guys! Been feeling so, so guilty about sitting out entire weeks of poker, but personal situation means I really can't afford the time to sit at tables as much as I'd love to. Been watching with envy the freerolls at SB and then the weeks at SwC.
@efialtis I believe I still have one entry, but I honestly can't remember, if so, put that small tip in for the final pot, won't you? I saw your PM but I definitely can't make it tonight =(
Yeah - since you didnt respond regarding those 200 chips or so, I assumed you were fine with adding them to the prize pool, which I did...

And what does everyone think about a more top heavy points structure 15-12-10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1? Helps the guys in the midfield separate from each other if they manage to get a more than decent finish. Also helps with reducing ties, makes comebacks possible right until the last round, and missing out on one or two games won't hurt you that much if you think you can finish ITM a few times.
Please consider the players at the bottom. its really depressing to have 0 points. even the odd point would be an ego boost for us. Why not make a system that rewards every player? Bottom is 1 up from there. That would reward everyone that played a game. Bigger the game more the winner would get . iyswim I am not poker expert though. Just my sideline observations

I had two good tournament today although could not reach THE top in both. 1. Free roll in sports bet. Finished at 2nd place 2. In the SwC bitcointalk runner up tournament. Unfortunately lost my final hand against figmentofmyass. It was my fault. I should not call A6 ALL IN after seeing figmentofmyass made the ALL IN call. If I could show some more patience then I could still survive I guess. I am loving poker LOL

And scoring points would give a player with no points an even bigger boost than currently.

Me too! Congrats for taking some prizes, you still don't take first places, but you will! You are getting better with every tournament played! I don't know why we should even discuss point structure!? It's good as it is for now for player base we have! Maybe with more players we could think about "heavy points structure" suggested by Cacerbola! With more players that would be logical step, more players = more points for taking any of the first 10 places! Little more than 30 players in last series, I don't remember how many points had last finalist, but I secured a seat with 25 points in 7th game! I think Yahoo and Sy had secured seat even earlier! if you had 0 points, you would have 0 points in either structure.
lol, boost your ego by winning some hands and taking down a tourney. this is poker, not a pity party! Do we really need more than this two sentences to understand that we play poker here. Win some hands, try to take the tournament, prize and points. 0 points are 0 points from every angle!

Upwards from there. There would be more incentive to play in every game. The bigger the game the more the winner would get. Seems sort of win win. Its all good with me I am more of a neutral person observing and suggesting. I did play but I am not tainted by all your expert poker experience. Just the experience of a noob in the first tournament.

Seems sort of win win.
we would have to weight the top places really heavily then, otherwise it devalues the whole idea of qualifying. smoothing out the points system will increase variance and make it more of a lottery, which IMO should be avoided. it could also incentivize tight nitty play as people try to fold/sit out into higher points payouts rather than playing for the win. i'm happy with the current points system myself. the championship is like the final table of final tables. getting there should require a few strong finishes.

Agree 100%. Current system is good and probably the best one we could implement. This way strong finishes are valued as it should be and if there is few players on the same amount of points all finishes are taken into consideration. But imagine this, if the points started at the bottom player 1 point. Upwards from there. There would be more incentive to play in every game. The bigger the game the more the winner would get.
This would complicate things and I don't see any benefits. Everybody already has the incentive to do the best they can and you could have gotten into final table with winning just last 2 tournaments. And don't forget that every tournament has prizes as well.

Yes I see what you both mean. I am just an independent looking at it with fresh eyes.
I take your point it could then mess up the other end (top)
Just was an idea to stimulate the bottom end. All good with whatever.

I read your comments, and I really don't know what you try to push here!? If you are independent then sit at the table and watch your cards (and your business), we play poker tournaments, if you are first you are first, you get the prize and points, if you are last you got nothing, you just lost your buy-in! If you plan to play again, try to be better and win, if you can't try some other game, with some other rules... When I lose I don't expect someone to stimulate me! I play to win every time, and I would like we to try to stimulate winners even more if we can. Efi is doing great job with that, he negotiated some money from SwC, this time even ticket for big btc tournament, and that sounds very good. Find stimulation in yourself, or in alcohol, drugs, and play poker! Don't try to search stimulation in the bottom end... Everybody already has the incentive to do the best they can and you could have gotten into final table with winning just last 2 tournaments. And don't forget that every tournament has prizes as well.
Exactly! It's poker, and we who play poker we never win all the time, we don't lose all the time. Be happy for your wins, when you lose (because you didn't give your best, or you didn't have luck) try to check what happened, improve your game and try again! We all do that!

Haven't pushed anything. Sorry to upset the apple cart.
I just had an idea for the losers that would involve playing in more games being a benefit. You would get more chips if there was more players. That's all. I already said no biggie.
Ill see you guys in a game.

I think the idea was like a basketball situation, I know NBA is not like that but in Europe there is a points system in basketball that really rewards even going out to play and losing by 50 points, because at that point you are doing better than any team who doesn't go out to play. I know you may think every team goes out to play but that rule was instated because of teams not going out against much better teams.
Now in basketball you have 1 points for losing and 2 points for winning, whereas you have zero points for not going to play, since back in the day it was like football, when you play a good team you lose and get 0 points, so there was no need for teams to go out and lose because they could simply decline to go out and play, so instead they put 1 points for losing and zero for not going out, which incentives going out and losing. Same logic here. Not saying it would be better, just saying similar ideas.

no, our series runs on saturdays and sundays on SwC Poker. come join us. the next series starts in 3 days: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5245365.0sportsbet.io has been running a 40 mBTC freeroll on wednesdays for bitcointalk. keep an eye on their thread for the weekly announcement. also FYI, betcoin has a shady past. they have a rather poor reputation around here. see their trust page: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust;u=202115

By the way, who were playing in last night's Poker with Steve? I ran out of luck and ended at position 18th I think.
