In this era of the COVID 19 pandemic, people spend long hours at home, but many museums, art centers, libraries, and universities have embraced virtual access to their art buildings and collections.
Below, I have prepared a small list of museums, I have included Google Arts & Culture because it contains extensive cultural content from around the world.

- Museo del Prado - Spain https://www.museodelprado.es/en/the-collection

- Museo Picasso - Spain https://www.museopicassomalaga.org/en/

- The Musée du Louvre - France https://www.louvre.fr/en/

- British Museum - London https://www.britishmuseum.org/

- Van Gogh Museum - Amsterdam https://www.vangoghmuseum.nl/

- Museo Archeologico – Atene https://www.namuseum.gr/en/

- Pinacoteca di Brera – Italy https://pinacotecabrera.org/

- Musei Vaticani – Roma http://www.museivaticani.va

- Galleria degli Uffizi – Italy https://www.virtualuffizi.com/

- State Hermitage Museum - 5h / 19min. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49YeFsx1rIw&feature=youtu.be

- National Gallery of Art - Washington https://www.nga.gov/collection.html

- Google Arts & Culture https://artsandculture.google.com/

Virtual visits are different in each museum, photography, virtual visit, videos, I hope you find it useful and help you to spend these days of confinement more enjoyable.

- The National Palace Museum - Republic of China https://www.npm.gov.tw/en/

When the Nationalists fled the Communists to the island of Taiwan they took the Chinese Imperial collections with them. It is an outstanding collection and well worth a browse. We spent nearly a week there practically camped, where a whole porcelain room can be filled with one bowl shape of one colour from one decade with discussion of different potters' hand shapes. And on and on. A real eye-opener.

Thanks so much for this thread, there are some useful links to while away a down hour or two.

https://www.cambridge.org/core/what-we-publish/textbooks Cambridge had opened up their textbooks to free access, but I guess everyone scraped a bit too hard. Might be worth checking back.

Music

Start here: https://imslp.org/
Many good-quality recordings are available for free download, legal in at least some parts of the world.  You may or may not need to use an Unamerican IP address for some of the legal download links; I’m not sure.  Of course, if you are a musician, the scores at IMSLP (which has merged in the Werner Icking archive) and Mutopia will be invaluable.

There are other sources of legal classical music recordings; but the ones I know tend to be of poor quality, in my never-humble opinion.  For illegal classical music, to have some culturally refined Russian friends with private torrents will probably do better than TPB; but the latter is worth a look, too.  Other suggestions will be appreciated.

I will not make any specific recommendations.  Sorry, “what music do you listen to?” is too personally revealing.

Libraries!  Poetry and other Literature—Books of all Kinds!

These dovetail in practice:  The Internet Archive and libgen.  (For the latter, I am linking to Wikipedia, because I don’t know the forum’s policy about providing the “piracy” links prominently displayed in Wikipedia’s sidebar.)

Open Library is oft helpful for finding what you want on Archive.org, which now runs Open Library, and on other sites.  More scholarly catalogues, such as World Cat 😺, are of inestimable value for the same purpose.  I won’t even bother trying to list them all (much less the scholarly sites with actual content); should you be a curious cat, poke around at Wikidata, and see what data sources are therefrom linked.

Project Gutenberg

Wikisource has transcribed texts in many languages.

Duh: https://www.ibiblio.org/

That is the beginning of what could be a longer list.

And you don’t need a mass-disaster for an excuse to read books, instead of wasting the precious moments of your limited mortal lifetime on the self-infliction of brain damage #Illiteracy #AttentionDeficit #SnowflakesAreFlaky.

Dance

IRL, I have been criticized for my gauche ignorance of ballet and ballroom dancing.  I admit, I am an Apollonian and not a Dionysian (a point perhaps ironically underscored by my focus hereby).  Well, anyway, the Panic Puritans will accuse you of serving the devil-virus if you dare to dance.

Somebody should contribute a Youtube channel of ballet videos, or what have you.

Quote from: Nietzsche (Also sprach Zarathustra)
I should only believe in a god that would know how to dance.

For fine art, Wikimedia Commons actually has a huge stash of treasures hidden in plain sight.  You need to know how to sift the gold nuggets out from the dross; however, you also need that skill at a modern museum.

A challenge to Bitcoiners who appreciate high culture:  Add culture to your posts.  I regularly do this, mostly with Wikimedia Commons image links.  Sometimes, I spend hours searching for exactly the right statue or painting for a post.  The time investment is amortized across all the future instances of self-quotation.

Did nobody notice?  Two years ago today (2018-03-23), a clip from a William Blake painting somehow magicked its way into a classic forum satire!

As I was initiated into a cryptic cult with rites of the goddess Hecate, the renowned paranormal researcher William Blake caught this photograph of Lauda shapeshifted to the form of a flying catbat:

Photo of LAUDA as a FLYING CATBAT
The witch LAUDA
Identified Flying Object (IFO)
(Better than a UFO.  Much better than an ICO.)

A cult statuette of Lauda, made between c. 400–250 B.C.:

CLASSIFIED TOP SECRET
NSA surveillance photo of Lauda
pwned by nullius

NSA Surveillance Photo of Lauda

My girlfriend (well, one of them; she ain’t the jealous type):

The principal purpose of the fence is to keep you out:

Loading image...
The actual fence is much higher,
and it works both ways.

That is a statute of the most famous ancient Greek ἑταίρᾱν, the cultural equivalent of a classical gaṇikā.  (I will be pleased if anybody can correct my inconsistent declensions here.)

But it is irrelevant to Lauda.

What, you want a clearer view?  (Do a double-take:  Yes, this is a statue.)

nullius’ girlfriend

She makes a lovely couple with this neoclassical statue of me:

Uh-oh, the NSA found me.
Loading image...

For I am a culture-warrior:  Culture is my sword, and this is all part of the Nullian Conspiracy to inflict guerrilla high-culture. :-)

Cherry-picked terribly out of context, for the lulz:
Quote from: Nietzsche
Take heed lest a statue crush you!

You can do a lot of virtual traveling here - https://en.360tourist.net/

I was going to link to Romania but there is so much available on the site.  The Romanian countryside is beautiful.

Grants for individual artists and museums to keep afloat
https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-52019131
Coronavirus: Arts Council England launches £160m emergency package.

How much are all your countries chucking at the arts?

Meanwhile I guess there will be a great flourishing of films made entirely on computers and cartoons too.

Very nice ^

meanwhile some hastily flung together crap for the idiot box https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-52038467
one of which struck me as I confess I am a fan of Grayson Perry, but I quite see he won't be up everyone's alley.

I must go and look at his twitter. I bet it's terrific.
