This is always the trickiest thing to do, no one knows when to hold and when to sell, for everyone holding and selling times are completely different as everyone understands the market differently. There are people who make 1.2x or 2x on their investment and say that they won big time and on the other hand there are others who make 10x of their investment and say that they didn't make much.
So you should always have a target price in mind of a token that you are holding and when that price is reached then you should sell your holdings without being greedy.

Short-term and long-term investments are two different strategies. Someone who chooses long-term, who has good confidence about a project. When they think that this coin has future prospects, then they make long term investment in that coin. And in the case of short-term, hold less time to make a good profit buy depending on any rumors. For BTC then yes for long term hold but for other coins? Timing is indeed everything because if you dont able to sell off on the right time when a coin pumped then that would leave you regretting and might not able to see
an another opportunity like that for you to sell off which would really give out that lifetime regret. hehe. For bitcoin then long term holds is applicable but if we do deal with alts then we should sell of as long we are on greens or gains and secure out our capital and re-roll profits on making the same step.Holding might work but most of the time i do make active trades because profit flow is much more fast than you do just simply sit back and relax.

HODL is not Hodl then forget, it apply to Bitcoin back then where I have seen people forgetting that they have Bitcoin and only find out  later when the price is good, you have to follow the price and the development of the project, especially if it's a new coin, but also apply to old coins as well, the market is very volatile, every day the market offer a new scenario, so better always on the look for any changes.

Hodling an altcoin for a long time is a tale of the past most of the investors nowadays jump to ICO from ICO, coins that are worth hodling is BTC and ETH that's all in my opinion. token devalue fast every time BTC drops.
