The grue lurks in the darkest places of the earth. Its favorite diet is adventurers, but its insatiable appetite is tempered by its fear of light. No grue has ever been seen by the light of day, and few have survived its fearsome jaws to tell the tale.

Wickedsick: It sounds like it may have been a significant amount to you. You'll get over it, you'll save up & get more than those funds back. Perhaps most importantly, you'll practice better security in the future. The geniuses here can always answer questions.

When I was 19 I counted cards (blackjack). I made $6,000 my first night. Made another ~$20,000 over a few months. My girlfriend left me & I got super depressed and somehow she ended up with $5,000. I made more playing video poker, a jacks-or-better machine had 99.54% return playing perfect strategy, with the players club benefits it was about 100.6%. So I recklessly didn't calculate the bankroll requirements & played $50 a spin. I was up $6,000 due to getting quads several times. I lost the $6,000 then another $16,000. It was a horrible feeling. Catastrophic, foolish series of mistakes & I barely had anything left. I was practically broke after months of efforts. I could have used that cash to wander around South America or Asia for 3 years. The point is, a few months later I had moved on, & now years later it's just a memory & a lesson.

Money is only a minuscule element in the fortune of existing.

I would like to know if your wallet was encrypted. A virus would need to be able to extract your .dat files & have it sent to them (that part is probably fairly easy for malware). If it was encrypted though they'd need to devote some heavy computer time to crack it, depending on its entropy. If the malware included a keylogger I suppose the passwords could be obtained that way. Download a trial of ESET-NOD to see if it identifies anything.

Zelig: What is the significance of that picture?

Still, it takes 20 seconds to encrypt, you've just got to choose a password. Also, malware is not always suspicious, there are many ways to be infected.

Windows machines are under constant attack on these forums. My trust comments are littered with a few of these. A simple exe file can sweep for private keys and upload them to attackers server in minutes.

I am sure everyone here will be glad to help you improve your security habits. natmccoy mentioned encrypting your wallets, which is an excellent first step. You may wish to consider running you wallet inside of a virtual machine, which will isolate your important funds from the rest of the machine to a degree. Also makes for easy backup incase of catastrophe. Wink

Good luck!

I was pretty wasted last night... That might be "moving forward" or "follow me".  That's me on my way to visit Vatican city - Spring 2014.  Certainly, I do not think "Vatican City" or "Catholicism" is the "Promised Land"...

On that trip, I was carrying my bitcoin wallet and constantly on the look-out for places to spend bitcoin.  I found a small cafe in Bologna, Italy that accepted Bitcoin.  I remain "friends" on Facebook with the owner - who has since gone on to open other small cafes (But, we don't really exchange much other than, "likes", on each others pics.)

Thanks, Siameze.  You're right... was worth a shot.  At least now they have an opinion, and opinions can be changed. We know what we need to work on.

Don't they MM HUC? That market is really tiny....

Edit: I take that back, HUC volume seems to be higher than I remember...

There's mmpool.org and https://www.multipool.us/stats.php?curr=uno

I'm not sure about xpool.ca  There was some changes over there recently.  We are always looking for more good pools.

I know cryptsy is dead and gone but someone has just tried to hack my Amazon account with my cryptsy log on details.  Angry

They were on a long shot but close enough to raise a flag with Amazon security.

Thanks for the info. mmpool hasn't mined a block in over a month, zpool (used to be xpool) doesn't seem to off Uno any more. So guess I'm left with multipool.us. It looks like hte UNO merge mining is only available on the Bitcoin Classic port, 3345?

Yes, our base hashrate dropped by more than 60%  Undecided

We need to maintain a selection of reliable pools. Whatever reason they had for dropping us we need to make sure that it doesn't continue to be a problem in the future.

I've been looking at that.  There are no Bitcoin Classic merge pools yet, and I think much of the hash as migrated that direction. Still investigating.

For some reason merged coins cause instability in our stratum servers. Not specific to UNO, but it is why we've removed all MM coins from scrypt and sha256 on zpool.

We're working at figuring out why so eventually we hope to add it back on www.zpool.ca

Cheers
