No, it was Aston Villa that refused to activate the £40m buy option clause in his contract - it was after he got rejected by Aston Villa that Bacelona got him on loan with a €30m buy option clause but still didn't activate it.

Iraola can't miraculously change things around, he'd need a bit of time to put together the players that he wants and might take 2+ seasons if he doesn't get sacked before the end of this season. I like him, don't get me wrong but Liverpool are in their pre-Klopp era. It difficult to change things

Those odds were based on current transfer market and the available squad; what Totteham has done this summer I don't think any club has done anything close - while Totteham are recruiting and upgrading their squad, Aston Villa are selling their best players from last season and haven't done so much on incomings.


For this season I'll take Totteham; No European football, no double week fixtures and that gives them an edge over a team with too many fixtures.

If he was willing to take a pay cut to play at Barcelona, he should be willing to take a pay cut to stay at Manchester United too.

I made a mistake on the figures, he was offered around 180-200k a week performance based wages -  close to what James earns as the highest paid at the club at that time ( I've not checked our incomings) but he refused and forced us to pay 5m penalty to Manchester United to cancel the " 25m obligation" clause

He needed that pay cut to fit into our new wages structure - Chelsea don't pay excessive salaries anymore. That was a good money tbh.
