There's some real unsung heroes in the reporting scene as an example. Not every user is vocal about how much they report, and while they might do this for a reason; it's a shame they don't get a little bit of recognition for the work they put in.

Same as some of the moderators; mprep is well thought of, and rightly so. However, there's a few in the background that just chug along. As one example, Mr Big does a ton of work, as I see how much they edit, and merge replies. That's just an example of what I see. There's others really working hard to make this place a better place, and it's a shame that they also aren't getting to recognition which I believe they deserve, but at the end of the day they might not want it.

Also, merit sources. There's a ton of those that work really hard on distributing to users that they think deserve it, but also need it to rank up. There's also some other things that we could pin point in the community which has been monumental in the forum's success. I'd probably like to see fail of the year, and non forum categories be removed in favour of them. I now fail of the year is kind of a fun little vote though.

It's a shame the community doesn't have an official award event to honor these unsung heroes who keep these places running. Not everything is about money, and some people actually enjoy being recognized for the little things they do publicly. Or am I mistaken in thinking that the icopress community award is the official one? Mprep, Mr Big, hilariousandco, and you, your work is underappreciated because voters are only interested in those who have given them a lot of merit and those who have a lot of merit to buy favors. It's a forum where the merit sources outnumber popular than the administrators.

fun fact: LoyceV is more popular than theymos, and I'm sure there are many users who have no idea who theymos is. Owning something does not require you to hide ; Elon makes the most tweets on Twitter and he owns it with a lot of money in his pocket.

I got two merits:

• @mendace, who wasn’t aware of the “merit rule”. I informed him on the Italian discussion thread, he probably will be penalised for that, but I have a little concern for this (it was his fault, after all)
• I got a merit from @icopress, who isn’t mentioned in this post. What happen if I decide to nominate him? He gave a merit before being nominated… so we cannot imply anything, but what happens at the end of the day? If I nominate him, the vote will be counted or not?

In these questions, Gazeta BOSS, so this is a question for him.

Being serious now, as far as I understood, the situation is the following:

- fillippone nominated mendace and mendace gave him a merit
- fillippone did not nominate icopress and icopress gave him a merit.

As far as I see the situation, the result is the following:
- fillippone's vote for mendace, will not be counted, because of the merit mendace sent to fillippone
- in case fillippone will change his vote (in the amount of time the contest will allow him to do it) and he will nominate icopress at a category, then this vote will also not be counted.


I guess this is one of a kind contest, where even the organizer receives a (potential) penalty, but since we are on a forum which is so harsh that even Satoshi has been banned, when can we expect?

I don't mean to single out Mr Big or anyone there, it was just an example since that's what I see. Although, I also thought that a lot of the user base might not even be that familiar with them since they're generally on the quieter side of things. If theymos do not organize an official award for the people on the backend, we will have this conversation again in 2023 and probably 2030 if the forum is still running smoothly ( or at least give us yearly stats). We can't help but vote for the popular ones who are also helping in some way when we're posting and having fun. We have a category for the best spamburster, but the top three nominees so far can't even boast of 500-1000 successful reports, but I'm sure there are a few unpopular ones with 10k+ reports who aren't getting voted for.

Since the OP made it clear, all merited posts should be disqualified, but the disadvantage is much more dangerous: a random user can send a ton of merits to all votes and ruin the party for everyone. You know how much thyemos despise editing code? Disabling merit is a good solution, but will theymos like the ideal?

Just go through the votes of the people who made their choices, and you will see that you were given three votes. And yes, I admire the ability of Ratimov and GazetaBitcoin to create a bunch of spam reports in such a large number.

Wait a minute, I am not complaining about any of it. Sh*t how you misunderstood it. I was saying it's unfair to vote me for spambuster category. But I also see there are things that are worth improving like:
Giving mods the vote for spambusters
Fail of the year and Event of the year seems to be not going to any specific users
Miss Bitcointalk because we really don't know who is what sex etc

But in any way, I never showed my disappointment. In fact, I am enjoying the nominations I am receiving in Miss bitcointalk category LOL

The best way in my opinion would be to copy, and paste the blank template without actually looking at anyone else's submissions. Then, come up with your picks. That way, you aren't getting influenced by other users votes, and you're actively thinking about who should go in each category. Then, for the final review process, go over the votes of others, and see if you've simply just forgotten about someone. If you have, you can compare your vote to their vote, and do some thinking on which one is more deserving.

That's probably the best way to go about it without being influenced, and bias too much. Since, I think what a lot of users do is if they can't think of someone themselves for a certain category they'll just copy the most popular choice.

By keeping the evidence is easier to see some numbers at some point in time. I don't update all the evidence every day, but I am gathering it during the entire contest...

However, I am not sure if you asked how I managed to see how many votes were gathered so far or if you asked how I could see the numbers of reports made by various users. About the number of votes I already replied. About the number of reports -- you already know the topic with report records. And additionally, theymos posts, sometimes, statistics (in a year for the previous year) of previous year's top reporters. From there you can also make an image...

And yes, I admire the ability of Ratimov and GazetaBitcoin to create a bunch of spam reports in such a large number.

Well, my math is bad, this isn't as bad as I had feared; good enough, we still have some right candidates who have been voted for the right category; these users are top-tier spam busters with a track record of reporting. Anyway, thanks for the statistics. This is the type of election we want to see. If I have some free time, I'd like to compile some statistics on some of the copy and past gangs and users who were voted for in the wrong category.

That being said, I'm enjoying the spam bursting category so far. And as for my report stats, I gave up a long time ago, because about 30+ cases are still unhandled, reporting in the gambling section is a headache, so I decided to make a list of spammers, remove the ones who improved after a few conversations, and send the rest to their campaign managers for evaluation, and the results have been good so far.

my report stats isn't bad either. i cant compete with bot users. no way.

If I did, perhaps the person deserved to be in this conversation; there were so many igehhh tags in the comment that I could have misplaced some quotes; however, that's how my bot works, and I'm too old and busy to edit codes right now.
