The essence of this conversation comes down to the fact that so many people use custodial wallets and this event is a great opportunity to allow many users to switch to the light side.
Looking at previous prize winners, the majority of them are long time users of this forum who will be well aware of the dangerous of custodial wallets and all probably own one or more hardware wallets already.

For the newbies who win a prize, giving them a hardware wallet teaches them to accept and use hardware wallets which have been handled by an unknown number of third parties, which is not good practice, in addition to requiring them to dox themselves to another forum user. Further, different people are going to want different things from a hardware wallet. You mentioned Trezor, for example, whereas I will never use a Trezor advice again given their anti-privacy stance and their partnership with blockchain analysis. Far better to give bitcoin as a prize and let people buy their own hardware wallet of their choosing directly from the manufacturer if they wish. This is safer and more secure.

No, because one of my close friends confirmed the authenticity of the wallets, and as far as I know, they were delivered by MJ.

I know about it, but only one wallet was tested, which is not a guarantee for the others. Just for the record, I also received one Betnomi Ledger.

Also, don't ignore shipping costs and possible taxes. This can vary a lot, so it can happen that someone will pay almost the same price for delivery as if he were to buy it himself. Or, if you give a choice, what are you going to do with 30 or 40 wallets that the winners didn't want to take over?

For the newbies who win a prize

It is about rewarding users who made a specific contribution to the forum during the year. In this contest, beginners have very little chance to win a prize, at least that's how it was until now. This makes the whole thing even more ridiculous.

Hello friends everyone.

The next annual voting will be launched very soon! I would like to consult with you and find out what would be best for the community! What do you think is better... to divide $7000 between the winners, or to give away 30 cold wallets to the winners and give away another 40 cold wallets among the community?.
Don’t know where to put the hardware wallets left over from the Betnomi (with the Betnomi logo engraved)? Smiley I remember that you were supposed to have some left over. Wink

If these cold wallets are from the Ledger, then perhaps it would be better to just throw them in the trash bin away. Who in their right mind would want to receive this as a reward.

On a forum dedicated to the bitcoin, why not announce the prize money in bitcoin (mBTC)? Sorry for my tediousness. Of course, the best prize on the bitcointalk can only be bitcoins.

Buddy, instead of making up facts, you should probably look up a little higher and see what the discussion is about.

It's here! It's here! [I know someone is familiar and will understand this immediately]

I almost thought we'll pass 2023 without any BCA. Apropos, I think sending fund will be the most practical one. As mentioned by many others, though the collectibles are very much enticing, the concern of privacy will quite likely make the winner gave up their prize.

If we have to go with HW prize, though... given Trezor gave their offering letter, how possible is it for them to arrange the shipping as well? What I have in mind is, the winner got a some kind of redemption code [sent privately through PM] that they can input on trezor's website, and they can redeem the custom HW for 0 USD?

The import tax aside, I think it'll work pretty much like if we buy them ourselves with the fund we got from winning the award.

As Icarus also offered to be a sponsor, how likely is it for Icarus to send things anonymously, cygan?

✂️
As Icarus also offered to be a sponsor, how likely is it for Icarus to send things anonymously, cygan?

we would only send the Icarus cards by registered mail to the address provided to us by the respective winners. of course, we would then also inform the winner of the tracking of the shipment

✂️
Quite honestly, I think the prizes should be in BTC, and not in physical assets, for several reasons:
- Many users do not want to reveal their physical address (a point already mentioned by other users)
- Receiving a physical prize can cause complications and expenses for the winner, as they may have to pay customs fees
- The work will increase for those who will have to send 100 prizes via postal service. In addition to the expense that will be involved, as it can be very high for some parts of the world.
- Some prizes may never reach the recipient, due to errors and errors in postal services.

in the first case, the winner could then pass on his prize to other users who are willing to provide us with a postal address or start a competition for his prize
in the second case, sending the Icarus cards would not incur any customs fees for the winner
as far as the production of the cards is concerned, we would manage that and then send the cards to the users in batches and unfortunately we cannot influence the last point with the unreliability of the respective postal services

I don't want to doubt your word, but just to understand: why do you say that Icarus cards don't pay customs fees?

By the way, I apologize for my ignorance, but what are Icarus cards?  Lips sealed

+1 to no physical prizes. In previously years I've very sadly had to turn down some very cool collectibles, a hardware wallet, and was one of three to also turn down a very generous all expenses paid trip to England to watch a live soccer game courtesy of Sportsbet.
One of the three! - is that including me? I turned down the offer from Steve too and it was worth of 1 BTC, at that time BTC price was around $10k to $12k if I am not mistaken.

About the last win, first I did not want to give any address but then I decided to give an address to Cyrus (it was not mine but if that would reach then I would get the items) however the postal company could not find the location (although it traveled from the sender's location to the address of the country I gave LOL) and they sent it back to the sender. I never cared to give another one. Sorry Cyrus for not responding your last message.

Anything physical is a "no" for many of us who are paranoid about our existence. BTC prize is the best solution.

All the points and arguments come together they are all saying one thing which is the BTC gift tot the winners. Because the second factor is more risk than sending BTC tot the winners. And we all go with the $7000 worth of bitcoin to the winners. Now we are all waiting for Mega Community Award program to kick off soon.

Never knew an award like this existed.
This would be my first partaking in, if Jr member's can vote.
Forgive my ignorance, but I still don't understand emphasis on cold wallet as a reward
Based on past data's, it can be seen that many winners are reputable members of the forum, thus have an higher likelihood of already using a cold wallet
Not to mention enthusiasts of privacy
Sending Bitcoin is still the best;
Its accepted by all
Cheaper delivery especially when sending in batch
Last but not least, it's the predominant currency in the forum.

This would be my first partaking in, if Jr member's can vote.
The rule of the previous year was that you must have at least 50 earned merits to vote, so that rule should still stand, unless icopress changes the rules this time around.
Forgive my ignorance, but I still don't understand emphasis on cold wallet as a reward
Based on past data's, it can be seen that many winners are reputable members of the forum, thus have an higher likelihood of already using a cold wallet
The proposal of hardware wallets as rewards isn't only for the winners, 40 hardware wallets is to go to the 'community', and that would include members that have never bought or even used a hardware wallet before.
Not to mention enthusiasts of privacy
That's the major problem with sending hardware wallets as a price, if not for this and other logistics problems, it is good to 'encourage' members in this way, to use cold wallets.
Sending Bitcoin is still the best;
Yes, most of us agree on that.

What do you think is better... to divide $7000 between the winners, or to give away 30 cold wallets to the winners and give away another 40 cold wallets among the community?.

Well first of all I didn't understand why if prize is money ($7000) then it will be divided among the winners only and if it's cold wallets then it will divided between winners and community?

I'm a bit confused i mean if the prize is money, why is it only divided among the winners and not the entire community? Shouldn't the community be included in this too?

Secondly I also agree with joker_josue's suggestion that prizes in BTC would be the best option.

However, if sponsors like Betnomi etc. want to stick with physical prizes, they could be given as vouchers with the option for winners to redeem them directly from the supplier.

Hello friends everyone.

The next annual voting will be launched very soon! I would like to consult with you and find out what would be best for the community! What do you think is better... to divide $7000 between the winners, or to give away 30 cold wallets to the winners and give away another 40 cold wallets among the community?.

Since I am a rookie on this forum I understand that my opinion not matter as much as a reputable member that been here for a long time as it should be. But if anyone would ask me I would not have to much winners or to much spread with the money. Example: IMO rather that 70 people winning $100 each then 140 people winning $50 each. Regarding how the prize should be sent am I voting for BTC to the winners wallet.

I have no clue how Bitcointalk Community Awards works. But normally in a competition/award its winners and losers, winners get a reward/price meanwhile the losers has to do it better next time.  Cheesy

Good luck to all participants!

I don't want to doubt your word, but just to understand: why do you say that Icarus cards don't pay customs fees?

By the way, I apologize for my ignorance, but what are Icarus cards?  Lips sealed

to your first question, as these are sent by me as registered mail and therefore i do not have to declare anything, as is the case with parcels. as far as i know, all users who have ordered/won an Icarus card so far have not had to pay any customs fees

and to your second question, it's not a big deal and i don't blame you for not knowing the project yet, but you can learn a lot about Icarus in the following link Wink

One of the three! - is that including me?
Make that one of four then! My recollection was it was theymos, myself, and TryNinja who were offered (and turned down) the prize.
Lol, thanks for reminding me of this. I actually turned down the vip tour mainly because I didn't watch football at that time. Funnily enough, Arsenal is now one of my favorite teams since I started watching the sport (can finally get the brazilian citizenship card!), so I would have taken it today. That decision now haunts me from time to time. Grin Tongue

But next year's prize was a hardware wallet and it had to be returned back because of all the import bs laws in my country, so I wouldn't take anything shipped over anymore.

If you ask me I would choose to divide $7000 between winners and pay them directly in Bitcoin.
Cold wallets are good to have but winners can always use cash reward and buy cold wallets they want themselves.
There are many cold wallets available in market and many of them are not that good, plus there is additional concern with personal information sharing.

Thank you for the explanation.
Yes, being a private sent, the probability of problems is lower.

Regarding the Icarus project, I haven't visited the collectibles tab much, so it escaped me. But I will analyze it carefully, because I'm curious. Thanks.  Wink

Friends, if anyone has ideas for the 4th round of the quiz (related to the history of the forum), do not hesitate to write to me in a PM.

If the questions/answers for the quiz are interesting and have not been published before, then I will be happy to add them to the new quiz.

Yes, but I cannot use both options since the minimum quantity of wallets that can be ordered is 100 units.

So have to choose one or the other (and the wallets definitely wouldn't bear the sponsor's name).

I'm not sure which wallet you were thinking of buying and why it has to be the whole lot of 100 pieces, but for example Trezor currently has a Black Friday sale, where the Trezor Model One is $48. If 30 pieces are enough for the contest, that is significantly below the $7,000 budget you mentioned. Even the latest model, Trezor Safe 3, is in that case affordable at €79 regular price. I don't see any conditions for buying a certain quantity.

Should we start a discussion about the categories of this contest, as far as I remember there were several illogicalities in the last selection. For example, miss Bitcointalk, where we cannot claim for anyone whether they are male or female. Some of the votes were ridiculous the last time. Or even, "antihero", where the nominees for the award are mostly due to negative contributions on the forum. It's a bit strange that someone who left a negative mark in the past year is rewarded financially.

Friends, if anyone has ideas for the 4th round of the quiz (related to the history of the forum), do not hesitate to write to me in a PM.

If the questions/answers for the quiz are interesting and have not been published before, then I will be happy to add them to the new quiz.

To avoid duplicate Q&A, perhaps you could leave links to previous quiz rounds. So that those interested could check the earlier questions. Honestly, I don't know which quizzes you mean here. I know that there were several, that some users started on their own initiative.
