I am not that surprised with this list although I thinl it is not only Greece from Easterm Europe there are many more Balkan countries whose gambling is in their Dna.The only country I am surprised from this list is Singapore which I know it is a very well developed place to live and work and there is no real need for gambling there.
And I think Singapore is very strict, so yeah I agree it's really surprising to see them in the list. Gambling losses per adult? could be higher for some countries as well, so we don't know how the data was collected here because it seems there is some gap. Australia, well probably there are a lot of whales there or even average joe gamblers willing to loss $1k in gambling.

How can we seriously discuss statistics from almost four years ago? Why not to find a new one? For example - What Countries Gamble The Most?
Although they’re both no longer relevant because of the coronavirus.

I wonder how Macau is not a part of any of these two lists!! Macau is a country whose economy is based on gambling businesses where 40% of their GDP is delivered by gambling! But these are really land based casinos which means the numbers here show the tip of the iceberg. Due to the social taboos around the world, a lot of people don't really visit the land based casino and these group of people actually enjoys the online casinos from the comfort of their home! And it is really difficult to capture that number correctly!

Secondly, I see US is missing from the list as well! US has an entire city for gambling and it is a prime destination of gamblers and tourists from around the world. I am sure everyone wants to visit Las Vegas at least once in their life! So I seriously feel the list is flawed!
Guess that those highrollers are come from australia or united states mostly, not the macau citizen obviously.
That is explain why i guess .
It is always about culture, australian loves gmble so much due its culture in the past but some people also denied it and says it was not about the history but it was because of the marketing and the industry grow so fast followimg with government support as it gives them a great income through taxation which unfortunately causing this big stats in australia .
They are taking gambling as an entertainment too serious.

Not looking at the stats, I would say that US is still the top spot and then Australia in the APAC region. This two are heavily on gambling, with so many sporting events being held on those countries reguarly, you name it, from tennis to golf tournaments.

I'm not really sure about EU though, but I suspect that Germany or Spain in the top in that region. Macau is just small in population, so even if they have high luxuries casinos, only a few can be called high rollers.
That is what i mean bud.
But when it comes to gambling in average statistically australian are the one who spend the most compared to any other country , yes statistically mathematically.
But when it comes to impression , i will choose united states as well as UK besides the number of gambling company (a large and multi-national one) come from there.

Has to do with avg wages for sure, as most of the listed countries are either rich or progressing very strong currently. Surprised that Spain isn’t even on the list since they influenced most of the gambling habits of the countries they have colonized in the past. Not only that but their proximity to known gambling hubs in Europe, too. China, on the other hand, is undoubtedly one on the top of the list. Those dudes know how to gamble big and well, especially the wealthy businessmen who are set for life.

OP should change the link to the latest update because the stat changes from time to time, in this link China is the number one and Australia is nowhere in the top 3, I wonder why suddenly China surge to number one after four years and why Australia drop of the top, although they are listed as number one in the countries with huge losses per capita.

I don't live in any of these countries and I have to say that I'm quite surprised, I would have never thought that Australia could be at first place. I would say that one of the Mediterranean countries would come first. Nevertheless it's nice to see some statistics like this, maybe we change some prejudice about gambling habits in certain countries.

That's my first thought when I saw the list.
I was expecting like HongKong/Macau or US to top the list.
If gambling is prevalent in Australia, why is it the that known gambling capital in the world is Macau?
Or maybe we are missing something here. The list is the losses per adult.
Does it mean that gamblers in Australia are high spenders? Because we're talking about average expenditure per adult.

I agree. I thought MACAU is on the top list since a lot of people gambles there even the tourist. Last year, they almost made a $35 million revenue that makes them worthy of the name World's largest gambling economy. Maybe what OP's data result regarding about countries that gambles the most is different because I guess it depends on the number of participants you included in the gambling survey.

Of course many don't think the statistics show the first ranked country to be Australia, but what I do know is that the majority of Australians are gambling mad and the numbers are on the rise.
indeed if we think that the largest gambling country the United States is the first and several other countries and it turns out that there are lots of very large gambling locations but never entered as a Candidate.

Consider the place part of China and Chinese are the most number of players there. Its usually the Chinese are the top gamblers everywhere but since their government disallow gambling, its excluded there. But it could be that its still the Chinese people who are initiating the gambling in Australia and Singapore.  Cambodia also have more casino establishments today but its not on the list.

Studies and surveys can't be instantly generated and it is hard to find the latest especially during the pandemic.

Anyway, I've got this Top 10 Gambling Cities in the World in 2020 and has been published earlier this year, maybe this could help us. But probably there is a huge change when the pandemic hits us badly. However, I don't expect a huge change then.

Well, it is to expect that many countries have a massive growth of gambling institutions. And as OP mentioned about losses, it probably more than that as we think.

the links on the first post are from 2015 and 2017 but yours are from 2020 the more recent the more accurate i guess ? thanks for the links and by the way i gather the countries that are top 10 active in gambling from your link and here are they :

10.) Los Angeles, California
9.)  Paradise Island & Nassau, Bahamas
8.)  London, United Kingdom
7.)  San Jose, Costa Rica
6.)  Paris, France
5.)  Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA
4.)  Marina Bay, Singapore
3.)  Monte Carlo, Monaco
2.)  Las Vegas, Nevada, USA
1.)  Macau, China

the huge change is that online gambling are now popular . gambling business are affected at the start of covid but later on they open doors online and its now back and bigger than ever but other countries that have recovered from covid are now going back operating offline . losses of people from those countries might be big but what about the wins , arent we going to talk about them

At first i thought it is Australia  that  number 1 in gambling In which i never expect but what made me shock more is the Idea that Australian Adult is losing that Amount and number 1 world wide.
How come is this?because they have small community of gamblers so they can be Above when making a ratio?or they are High roller so the chance of having that amount comes to their Nation.

But at least obvious America is the Biggest gambling Population in the world and the Margin is really Domitaning .

definitely better to have an update and having it city by city is really interesting.

I'd love to see the taxes charged for gambling on each place and total gambling revenue too, I bet it's really interesting data to look into and check for correlations and possible causations.

Our country is not included with the list and I already expected that thing because of being a third world country and most of the gambling games here are banned, I thought that China or the US will be the first one on the list because of the king that they have a lot of population and most of the games in gambling are created by their countries.

Based on the name of the countries listed above we can say that all of them are rich countries so we can conclude here that gambling would be so helpful for the economy to rise and it is because of the tax collected from them.

I didn't even expect my country to be on the list as it's a third world country where the majority can't afford to lose much money in gambling. A list like this would most likely to have countries with great economy, and it shows. The 2020 list on the link provided by op has Macau and the USA leading and I feel like there's nothing to argue with that since they are a big player when it comes to the gambling industry.

Looks like gambling is well diversified in a rich countries and this is why they valued casinos that much because it can generate such profit.

I wonder what countries gambling the most that is belong to a 3rd world country? I'm sure my place will be place on since there's a lot of gamblers in my country and a lot of casinos as well, though of course there's still a big influence of Chinese gambler in my country.

have you ever wondered which are the countries where gambling is more popular?

and in which people lose more money for gambling?

this website gives us a clue about it.

Quote
Rank   Country   Gaming Losses Per Adult
1   Australia   $1,288.00
2   Singapore   $1,174.00
3   Ireland   $588.00
4   Canada   $568.00
5   Finland   $553.00
6   Italy   $517.00
7   Hong Kong   $503.00
8   Norway   $448.00
9   Greece   $420.00
10   Spain   $418.00
Imagine Singapore as one of the smallest Country but Can Lose 17 hundred Dollars average in gambling.

Maybe because the smaller the country the Highest Losing per Adult,Though Canada and Australia is also a Big country.

do you live in any of these countries? it'd be nice to hear more on the opinions of someone who knows the gambling scene on each place.

this other website tell a slightly different story

Here in My country gambling can be found everywhere But it is not those Places that recorded because most are Small time gamblers but truly there are So many in the street you can find.

Even some Cab drivers having their own varieties of gambling.

and Casinos are only for those can afford in Life.

I think this data only reflects those gambling activities recorded within the casinos, and the amount of gaming losses.
I also agree to the point that it is irrelevant based on the year of data acquisition, but still nice to have some data.
I think that it would be hard to really identify the top country of gambling activities since there a lot to consider such as currency value, population, the regulated and the unregulated gambling activities.

snip..
Australia has a very large annual gambling loss value when compared to other countries.  I never thought that gambling players in Australia were much more likely to lose than gamblers from the US or China.  gambling owners in Australia must have made a lot of profit from the gambling players who lost there..

Most likely this data was only taken from casinos or other firms of gambling that data could easily get. I just wonder most of these countries in the list are first world and they gamble the most (well, as per these stats in the OP). What if a third world will do the same like boosting the gambling industry in a manner that the same as this first world were mostly base on casinos? I wonder if it would make a great difference especially in the economy.

Japan was very expected for me because I heard about gambling being particularly popular there. But it's hard to judge how credible this data is. And I want to point out that the data is not contradictory at all! It's just that loss per adult and loss in billions overall are two very different things and depend largely on the population. In fact, the second website has the chart with losses per adult, and they are the same as in the table of the first website (not 100%, but more or less the same).
And xandry's point that it's from 4 years ago is important since a lot could change from then. But the article this person suggests is also using data from the website the op provided, so the data on this website is probably also mixed and might not be up to date.
