I have put this statement on analysis a lot in mind, trying to watch my mood and correlate my happiness with the amount of money I have each time. Money can't buy happiness but it can help you to be happy, better to cry on a roof that doesn't leak and have a car and an insurance and investment rather than smiling through without any way to find food for the next day, being happy without money is just ignoring the problem which is being broke.

I don't really like to put money above life and health, I know money can help to life but health is wealth. If you are healthy then you have life. Well, if money makes you happy, then you could get addicted to it and would likely do anything to have more.
Better to derive your happiness/joy from using your talents to help others so that even when you don't earn much you will still be happy doing it.
I read there were certain cultures in the past who had little yet were always happy, contented and never really lack in their needs. They would lots of times solve problems that require payment from customers but would ask the customers to pay them Whatever they can afford or even work without demanding for rewards.

But the source of your happiness needs finance though. Doesn't that defeat the point? Honestly, the saying of money doesn't make you happy is probably one of the most unrealistic things one should believe in the real world that we live in right now. Ofc, there are varying levels of what level of happiness you actually want, like some people have level 10 happiness but that level 10 is 5 for others. Simply speaking, everyone has different standards, so it isn't really right to generalize that money can bring happiness, but it can also be the same for the opposite where money can't bring happiness.

Everyone surely knows at least a few people who can be considered rich, and they are always in a bad mood, frowning and looking like they are on the edge of their nerves. So money for me personally has never been and will never be a measure of happiness, because when I had little money and when I had a lot of it I didn’t behave differently nor did it affect my level of happiness.

As for the study linked in the OP, it is based exclusively on the US - so if someone feels happy with $75 000 in that country, I can say with certainty that someone else would feel very happy to be able to earn 10 times less during a year. This of course depends on the standard of living that every country has, but also on how people actually perceive happiness - and unfortunately nowadays it is increasingly through the acquisition of material goods that can never make a person completely happy.

If you ask the same question to rich person, he would say same thing same life and most importantly he would say he want to expand his businesses and money!!

I have read the same study as OP and completely agree with it.
While "money doesn't do everything" "money can't buy you love" are not false statement, thinking that money doesn't help is complete bullshit.

Not having to worry about staying alive / in good health / satiated / hydrated / under a roof / ... is a gigantic saving in stress, and money is a HUGE factor.
Many people seem to have a manichean point of view, thinking that the reality is to have either a social life / a loving family or money. Like the romantic view of movies or books, showing poor people happy together, sharing everything they have, etc... Well this is bullshit too. Poverty can be very ugly especially in a few countries.

It would be interesting to conduct this study in the other way : "Can you be happy without a single penny in your wallet ?"

While it doesn't seem impossible to me to be happy without money, most people just dream about getting rich. But in reality, all they want is to not lack of anything.

Well said. I also believe that money does not bring happiness all the time. Yes it can give us joy and excitement but it's only temporary because after a week or two, even if you still have lots of mesoney, your mood or behavior will definitely change.

However, having a lot of money this time will eventually change your lifestyle into your own target goal. But that does not mean that you will be happy for the rest of your life. You will still experience disappointments and frustrations even how wealthy you are. Some can say that money can't buy you happiness but for me it can buy you piece of mind and comfort which are some key features in achieving a happy life. Money while being earned most of the time gives us stress but after it gets earned, all of the exhaustion and madness we have inside of us goes away specially if you recieve high salary each month. I read similar studies in the past and in my opinion they are right, we need a certain amount of money to cover our needs and then an extra to cover for a few nice things we may want, after that any additional money that we have does not really produce more happiness, also while some think as this being bad it is not true, we need resources and a basic level of those resources is needed, and if we do not have them then we need to find a way to get them otherwise unhappiness naturally follows.

There is also considerable evidence (second chart) that the standard deviation of happiness within a population drops as per capita GDP increases... i.e., as the average wealth within a country increases, the levels of inequality of happiness reduce. We might expect to see this in poorer nations, as people are lifted above the level of mere subsistence... but the trend is valid in developed nations, too. Pretty simple, the difference in what makes you happy is also proportional to the income.
A user that has bought his first 10 yo car with $2k car is happy with it, it makes noise, it's not comfortable, it can't go over 90, but he made a great deal, he is happy. A guy buying a 200k Mercedes finds one day that the tire pressure indicator on one of the wheels is off, he goes infuriated to the dealer and demands it to be fixed immediately cursing all day for the time lost. It's more about expectations and self-beliefs than actual happiness.

Same for people, for some who have been living all their life in poverty finding a 10mp2 home and having in reserve enough money for food for one year is awesome, for somebody in Europe who had never experienced poverty or job insecurity not affording one year to travel abroad to some tropical island because he has to pay tuition for two kinds can make them unhappy.  But make the first case live in the same conditions as the second for 10 years and after that having just 10k in his savings would also make him distress and discouraged.

Money doesn't necessarily bring happiness but what it does it creates comfort, someone who does not have money is constantly is searching for a way to get it, he is always thinking about how he or she will be able to eat or sleep tonight, and therefore creating anxiety that looms over and keeps your mood down, and a rich person does not have to think about that which creates a sort of comfort and allows them to live their lives as they want, but then again every person has their own problems, and with money comes other issues and other things that create anxiety, but that is just my point of of view.

This is 100% true. When I have close to zero money and having hard time surviving life, there is really less stress in my life, because I have a certain goal and that goal is to survive, as long as I can survive then there is nothing wrong in my life and I am happy with whatever I am doing.

However the moment I have a bit of excess money, I try to do something with that money to make it even more and that creates a huge problem for me. Just this past year thanks to crypto going up I ended up with a good amount of money for me, it is nothing compared to many people but for me it was a good amount, and it was one of the hardest and most difficult periods of my life. Thankfully .... I lost it with this drop and now I do not worry about anything, am I capable of living until my next paycheck? Yes, then that is more than enough for me and I am happier.

I agree with you. Nowadays, you can almost have no means of survival without money, due to this, some resort to criminal activities, even those who are supposed to be really good people gets left with no choice but to resort to such things. But even with these facts, I still believe that theost valuable things in life van never be bought. Also, I kind of disagree with that popular opinion of yours since I have witnessed for myself a bunch of rich people being easily angered and offended because they know they can get away with almost anything and so even with the slightest mistakes, they tend to take it very seriously not because of the offenses but because they want to show off their capabilities. At the end, it all just comes down to how your parents or guardians have raised you. Money can't buy everything and genuine happiness are often seen on poor people.

               Money can easily be tied to happiness and is only natural since most of the things in this world are driven by money. Heck, even lovelife can be a piece of cake with money. But honestly though, there is no better feeling in the world than being satisfied by with what you have(not in an unproductive way obviously). This is very true. Happiness is a state of mind where it depends largely on the person himself. He may not have the riches, but he is already contented with his life and be happy with whatever he has. But for some, even if they have enough money, they are not happy with it because they want more. But it is always better to be financially stable so you are not always in stress where to get money even for your basic needs. Happiness is a choice though, so I would rather cry on a mansion than be happy on a street or muddy and leaking roof that's a lifetime burden if you can't change what you are today. That's why I prefer to make more money than suffer because people who experienced poverty know what it's like to have no money to spend when you have something that you wanted to buy.

And being broke is too challenging because you have to think how or what are you gonna eat in the next day. That's why I said happiness is always a choice, you can be happy without a money/broke or you can be sad with a fancy house.

I think a very good example is to think about the super rich people. Let's take Bill Gates.

If he goes down in wealth from $130 billion to $65 billion, cutting his wealth in half hitting the lowest point of the market and the economy, you won't see Bill Gates drop a single tear or even have a sad face. Because it doesn't matter.

First of all, happiness is a very individual task, there are things that make some people happy and the opposite. But you have to understand how our brain works. If you or anyone in this world is happy that's because of the hormones that are in our branes like: Dopamine, Serotonin, Oxytocin (love), Endorphins. Certain actions make us to release certain hormones and the happy feeling is different from them but the feel is actually happiness.
Dopamine is associated with euphoria, stimulus, memory, learning, focus, attention, confidence, etc. Overall, it's what motivates us, what makes us confident, charismatic, active... It's my favorite hormone!
Serotonin is associated with happiness, well-being. Believe it or not, serotonin mostly is in our gut. Btw I still prefer Dopamine!
Oxytocin is associated with love, pure love, this is how love feels and this is love itself. When you hug someone, when you see loved ones, when you kiss, your brain releases Oxytocin and that feels good too. It's also trust hormone, you trust those who you love, right?
Endorphins - I guess almost everyone knows Endorphins, it's often said that you release them during sex. Endorphins make us happy and kill the pain but at the same time, that's more likely because they bind to receptors of the central nervous system and release the Dopamine.

 For me in my own word about on the subject Money is practically we need to be happy ,money is everything that every body blind on this, but beside that money can create crimes due that some criminal abuse it on stealing money. I guess I know the exact and best answer regarding the relation between money and happiness. Not all the rich people are happy. If you didn't have enough money before, once you gain the money and get rich you will be happy but that's temporary and people will be depressed after a while. Those words are always heard from the mouths of people who live in luxury for the purpose of entertaining the poor. If we talk about reality, then money is a goal that poor people must get in order to get a better life.

Some people stick with their idealistic cover to cover their laziness in taking a new step to earn a lot of money. I prefer people who work hard to earn a lot of money, and use their money for the benefit of themselves and those around them.

Money can buy happiness, when a person does not feel worried that his economic condition will be destroyed because they still have a lot of money ready to treat.

and there's more..Yes, these are things which other rich man people or financially independent is looking for.

There's no such thing about perfect life but having lots of money could really give out that satisfaction in terms of  physical things.

In my opinion, each person has a different concept of happiness and money. Money and happiness in my opinion are interrelated. Happiness without money is a lie. A lot of money but not being happy is a loss. Never thought studies into this subject matter were undertaken but I like the conclusion that was drawn, everything has a limit to what extent it can go. But between money and happiness, you want unlimited happiness because this usually leads to great connections with people, money can make things happen but it can be a source of problems.

Because, in reality, we all have different preferences, and each person is unique, there is no such thing as a universal definition of happiness; it is highly subjective. Quite strange for me with those option. Who wants to be starving with the advantage of not being robbed ? there are several cases where the poor are being robbed and more easily getting robbed because they lack of security.
If you are rich you are able to secure your wealth by hiring some bodyguards or police or create a mansion with bunker on it to save your money there, and also if you save your assets to the bank you will become the priority customer and your security of your assets will be much more than normal customer.

I guess I know the exact and best answer regarding the relation between money and happiness. Not all the rich people are happy. If you didn't have enough money before, once you gain the money and get rich you will be happy but that's temporary and people will be depressed after a while. While there may be this misconception that money does NOT guarantee happiness, it does enable someone to be happy especially if a person came from nothing and gained everything. It all depends on whether the person has the capability of transforming money and converting it into happiness by purchasing stuff or experiencing once-in-a-lifetime moments.

If we want to achieve such financial freedom, then we should work on it and not just dreamed about it. One way, is not to buy luxury items if you are not capable of. There is a popular opinion in the locale that "A man who has money doesn't easily get angry or offended, lol". This statement goes the other way as well, that "A man who doesn't have money is easily offended by everything and everyone".

I have put this statement on analysis a lot in mind, trying to watch my mood and correlate my happiness with the amount of money I have each time. Everytime it seems like i have overspent and almost becoming broke, there is a feeling of irritation and sadness that comes with it. Also when i get some credit alerts, there is an associated joy.

I know it is not proper to tie your happiness to finance, but i did some research into the subject and found a study that was conducted with the result that happiness increases with the amount of money one makes up until a point  where there is no greater degree of happiness from making money, but unhappiness if ones income drops beneath that range.

This is true, people who didn't have money can easily get angry it is because if we don't have money we will have to find a way to solve the problem of financially shortage for our daily expenses which makes us so stressful and we cannot concentrate or think good, that is why I agree that money is happiness, if we don't have money we will be having a hard time to stay calm and think or solve problem in a peaceful way and we will easily get mad every single hour of the day.

Yes its true.Money cant buy happiness but you certainly are'nt happy without it.You cant directly buy happiness but it can buy things that makes you happy. So while you cant really buy happiness,money has a huge impact on how happy you are..That happiness also depends on what do you do with your money.Using your money wisely is what give you true happiness. Money and happiness, are not always balanced but sometimes so contradictory between the two, that there are several factors that cause them to be so contradictory to the general view that money is needed to create happiness.

1. Rich people have trouble sleeping, some worry about not being able to sleep well, even if they are ready to pay anything to be able to sleep naturally without the influence of sleeping pills.

2. Rich people are always busy, true happiness in life is always free time for family gatherings, watching children grow every time from toddlers, taking care of both parents when they need us by their side.

I can't say that money and happiness are unrelated in any way. They are quite related. Because having no money or a really few amount of money equals to being unhappy to me. Maybe this is different for many people also. But I can't be content about my life unless I have enough money to be able to get something I like. I don't mean that I must be a really rich person. well, I might think that's not entirely true. some people who also have abundant finances are also involved in things that are not wanted and are not happy. I think the key to all of this is being grateful for what we have. however, as long as we don't have debt, and are grateful for the finances we have, as long as it meets our needs, I think it's enough to make a person or a family happy, even when they don't have as much money as Elon Musk or other rich people.
