This thread is about Portuguese football league Primeira Liga. Let's discuss new season here.

Last Champion is Sporting. Benfica have the most valuable squad. Porto is following them. In 87 season league history only these three clubs were champions except one time only achievement of Belenenses and Boavista. Most likely we will see Sporting, Benfica, Porto combat this season as well.

18 teams play in Premiera Liga. First 2 teams will directly go to Champions League. Third team will play in Champions League qualification game, fourth and fifth teams will play Conference League qualification game. Last two teams will be relegated and third team will play a play-out game to stay in the league.

I added a poll which will run for 30 days, which team will be the champion this season? My favorite is Sporting again but this time it will be harder to be the champion.

Are you talking about Portugal's NOS League, however I admit some NOS clubs have managed to produce famous players, such as: (pepe, Cristiano Ronaldo, Ruben and many others), although the Portuguese league is not as popular as other leagues.

If you talk about Sports, what about some other clubs, also have good opportunities this season like: you mentioned Belenenses, FC Porto and Boavista they are also the oldest and known club in Portugal and have also won the NOS league.

I have been follow Portugal Primeira Liga for long, I have noticed Benfica to be very strong while FC Porto can be so unstoppable at times. Sporting CP are not bad either. SC Braga can be tough and one of my favorite that is just tough a little but gone not so far. This thread will likely make me follow this league this season.

I do not like to predict away matches but Benfica has the highest chance to win, I prefer to predict only home matches. If I will have to playlce bet, I would have preferred to choose only Sporting CP and FC Porto bacuase both clubs are at their home. This can be a risk bet as I may go for first half win, but just with the money I can afford to lose. This is not a betting advice.

Benfica or Porto will be champions this season I think that Porto has the better players and can be one of the best teams in the world on their day but they are inconsistent and struggle with getting results every week. Benfica have less good players but are more consistent if they had to pick one from these two to win this season it would be Porto because they have a special place in my heart because of the football that they have played in previous seasons. I think sporting will surprise a lot of people this season too.

Anyway, title holder Sporting started with a Vizela win at home. Vizela just promoted to Primeira Liga so there was a huge quality difference.
Today there are three games. Estoril already beat Arouca. Now we are waiting for Benfica's first match against Moreirense. Odds are tempting for Benfica win. Another favorite Braga will play with Maritimo at away game. You can parlay Benfica and Braga win.

What a win by Sporting they just dominated the entire much and destroyed their opponent with 3-0 at start showing they arent joking. While other top teams in other leagues didnt start very well they showed they are a team to bet on this entire season even in the champions league as well

Moreirense 1 - 2  Benfica

I did not watch the match, but it would be a tough match, 8 yellow cards and one red cards in just a single match. Benfica has the highest chance to win the match and she won it right from the first half, no team scored in the second half. I will be expecting FC Porto to also win their match.

Benfica won the game 2-1. 3 goals scored in the first 30 minutes.  Benfica had a ball possession rate of 75% in the first half. As Diogo Gonçalves was dismissed with a red card at 56 minutes, moreirense tried to dominate the match, but they could not score. From my analysis, Porto is a good team and this season they are set to make a come back. Although they finished five points behind Sporting Lisbon last season, I believe that Sergio Conceicao has some new tricks up his sleeves to make the regain the trophy. I am not at all perturbed by Sporting Lisbon opening victory, the season is still long.

this is in accordance with what was predicted by observers because from a head to head perspective it has been seen that fc porto is superior and even though the ball is round and on the field what is needed is team spirit but it is predictable that fc porto can win the match.
On the other hand, for Belenenses themselves, if you look at the matches that have happened, I see they are still not united as a team and they still make many mistakes in their area which makes midfielders and wingers from FC Porto free to mess with Belenenses' defense and I think this is a start. which is good enough for porto

FC Porto did not fall my hands, it is as I was expecting FC Porto as A. Martinez scored in the 19th minute while Luis Diaz scored in the second half. The league has just started, but the three clubs will still have there best performance as they are the ones winning the league always, but one will still later emerge as the best to win the league.

What did you expect, Benfica will surely win, although half time win is risky, but I can not think twice before I will take it. Matches can go otherwise but this type of matches for me is 70% or more certain that I will win it.

Sporting is currently topping the league, after winning against Braga. I literally thought the match will end draw, but Sporting ended up winning the match with a 1-2 score. Although, they got a red card 80 minutes into the game.

Proto FC also won their second match into the season with was against Famalicao today. They scored two goals in the first half, while Famalicao scored in the second half. It was an easy winning for Proto today. They lost the trophy to Sporting CP last season. Sporting topped them with 5 points. I think Sporting will also win the league this season.

Braga - Sporting match was really interesting. Sporting managed to win this match too, 2-1. But according to the statistics of the match, I can't say that Sporting dominated the match. One thing about Portugal Primeira Liga is that once one of the strongest club (Benfica, FC Porta and Sporting CP) start to lose, the chance that such club can win the league that season is low because the other strong clubs continue to win as the league is not that competitive. Famalicao tried and manage to make sure Sporting CP did not score in the first half of the match and was able to score first in the second half. I did not watch the match but to be the away team can be difficult, I still know that Sporting CP would have tried their best and scored in the 82nd minute, but just that they were unable to win.

This season they can use him in Portuguese League and Champions League. He can play as right winger or attacking midfielder. The only problem for Sporting to me is their striker role, they have only Paulinho there. If he gets injured or booked his alternative is 19 year old Tiago Tomás. Season is too long, in the long run they have to use an unorthodox forward in striker role or even play without striker based on opposition. I think they will get another striker in Winter transfer window. They can't play with only 2 strikers whole season long.

Sarabia deal is good because he played in the high level and champions league and can play even as a striker if its needed i ve seen that both porto and benfica has a stronger squad compared to sporting with some experienced and high level players so it will be a though season.

They Are Very Lucky To Got Pablo Sarabia (Despite Loan), I'm Sure He Will Be Very Helpful For Sporting.

And I agree with you that the problem in the current team is the limited number of strikers, but on the other hand I think that Ruben Amorim has another strategy about this, the most likely being to play Bruno Tabata in the striker position who in fact he is an attacking midfieldder if it happens Unexpected Things, Or it could even play Jovane Cabral, who incidentally is a winger

You are right, it is too early to conclude that a particular club will win the league this season, there are only just three games played and there are still many games that will be played. But like I have previously commented before, this Portugal Primeira Liga is not that so competitive enough, as Sporting CP just lose a single game at the start of the season, the chances that Benfica or FC Porto to win the league this season has gotten higher as the winner do win many consecutive matches before losing at all, also as we know the winning if the league will not go beyond these three clubs.

First of all, FC Barcelona is no more a good club as it was always be before Lionel Messi left for PSG, Barcelona was always on the first 3 before, now they are at number 9 of the table. But it was yet a surprise for me to see Benfica won Barcelona in UCL but such club like Benfica should not be taking simple as they can win unexpectedly. Likely Benfica won the weak Barcelona might make their training to decrease after also winning many matches in their league leading to too much confidence but low training. This is what I have noticed about Portugal Primeira Liga, most of the clubs do not always win big, they always end with just same draw, no score or just 1 goal range difference between the winner and the loser. But this go to other clubs not like the three dominant clubs which are FC Porto, Benfica and Sporting CP (except Sporting CP this time). Sorry, I will like to be clear about this, was the game ended or cancelled? I think this is truly worse than watching a fixed match. But people will not go for Belenenses on the normal ground, Benfica will be gone for, if the match was not cancelled and given to Benfica, bettors will like it as they won the bet. That also means it is not worse for many people as the match makes them won bet. On the other hand, fixed matches are like in a way the bettors will lose.

It was really sad to see that Belenenses had to play with only 9 players against Benfica because of covid-19. The game was played for 48 minutes and then it was abandoned. And Benfica scored 7 goals in this period of time. I think that this was really rude against Belenenses. I know that Benfica had nothing to do rather than abiding by the rules of the federation. But at least, they should have taken it easy in such conditions. They just made Belenenses players seem embarrassing. And if I'm not wrong, the Belenenses manager left the field with a great sadness after the game.

Well, this game had many goals and ended in a draw, I thought Estoril would win in a comfortable way, but in the end Santa Clara was almost lucky enough to win the game, unfortunately they conceded the penalty and for that reason the game ended in a draw. if Santa Clara had known how to hold the advantage they had, would have won this game.

Yes, you are right, I don't expect anything extreme from them in this season. My guess is that Benfica's team has some internal problems. To be fully correct, only 5 clubs have won league in whole history. Besides big 3, Belenenses won it somewhere 80 years ago and Boavista over 20 years ago. I'm a bit surprised that Braga never won it - they usually keep close to big 3.
It's all about the money. Main clubs have way bigger budgets, best academies and etc. While most of remaining clubs in Portugal is really poor and they're not able to compete as equal, it's like closed circle. Something similar like Bayern in Bundlesliga.
