Hey guys.

So some of you already noticed because of reseller presale announcements, but we're dropping a new stick built around the S17 BM1397 chip.

We call it the Compac F. It is red. Hot-rod red.

It is also made for overclocking. Hot-rod overclocking.

The two photos above were taken from the same test. I haven't stressed my tester sticks past 3 Amps from the USB bus, but if you are able to keep everything cool, in theory, the hardware should be good for more like 500GH. Which is a little absurd. Kano is working on the driver for this guy, and we agreed to cap the speed to 800MHz (538GH theoretical) for safety and sanity's sake. Because of a new IC package design by Bitmain, the chips cool more efficiently, which when coupled with our proven robust Compac power systems makes this stick quite a machine.

This isn't going to be marketed as a baseline miner like the Compac, 2Pac, NewPac. It's physically compatible with our previous USB sticks and built off the same proven platform, but this one is a limited release with only one planned batch. If enough people want it, we may make more.

Resellers are all the usual suspects. 419Mining, ASICPuppy and BitcoinMerch are stocking in the US. Bitshopper.de is selling in Germany, and Eyeboot.com will have stock in Hong Kong. MineFarmBuy is also interested but are a broker, not a reseller, so you'll have to talk to them to figure it out.

Cool, quiet and up to 1TH pod miner, on sale now!
Currently in development - 200+GH USB stick; 6TH volt-adjustable S1/3/5 upgrade kit

TAKE MY MONEY!

Great to see you're still at it and making awesome stuff.  Hard to believe a stickminer could achieve these speeds.  If only we had a time machine.  10 years ago this would have been absolute gold.  Congrats on continuing to set the bar for prospective miner builders.  You must be enjoying yourself quite a bit to have kept at it so long as well, which may be even more impressive!

ordered mine already!

question, it seems like the newpacs used the S9 chips. The S9 pushed 13.5 TH/s w/189 chips or about 71 GH/s per chip. Newpacs definitely OC'ed to close to those levels cause I did have a couple that went to 130 GH/s+ and could honestly probably crank it higher. It seems like each S17 chip can produce a max of 380 GH/s per chip. does that mean in the future, we might be able to push 600-700+   Shocked

i know its probably not smart to think of it linearly but was very interested. these are so cool, thanks for keeping at it!

Siiick! So 3A @ 5V means you're pulling 15W for 500GH/s?
No. If you read the 1st post you will see that it is ~360GHs @ 15w. It should be able to run faster (and of course hotter) but of course will pull more power to do it.

It makes me think: if Bitmain IC's and package designs are so good, but their PSU's and cooling are a common factor of unreliability, maybe someone like GekkoScience might just build a full on big boi 3KW miner out of Bitmain chips, but better (more reliable)? ^^
Not going to happen for at least 2 reasons:
Bitmain does not sell bare chips in the quantities needed
AFAIK Sidehack is committed to making only miners that are suitable for home use. That means under roughly 1kw max to keep noise from cooling fans to a minimum.

We are working on a larger-scale miner (finally!) but it won't be 3KW and it won't be Bitmain chips. Not gonna say much more until we have some real stuff to show off, as is my habit.

Everyone's "end of September" delivery target is based on that we're right now gathering up everything we need to start production, and then we start manufacture and finish assembly and testing before we ship, so nobody will have stock for several weeks. That's pretty much how all my new product announcements have gone - the first batch is a preorder with specs based on working prototypes, in order to raise capital to manufacture in bulk.

No, this stick can't be pushed to 600-700GH. There's only the one chip on it, and you're still limited by power and cooling. Software limits you to 538GH, if the hardware doesn't catch fire first. Fire voids the warranty, by the way.

Cool, quiet and up to 1TH pod miner, on sale now!

I'm still shocked that a single chip pushes up to 500GH! I have some BM1387 chips here to play with (want to make a breakout board for it and make it hash some things, controlled by a microcontroller or so) and they only do 74GH/s at 7W as far as I know.
driver-gekko.c/driver-gekko.h has most of the info you'd want for both the BM1387 and shortly the BM1397 once I push the additions into my git.

What would the process be to upgrade an existing gekko-cgminer on a Pi4 to include the new driver? Is it a fresh install or can it be "added" to the current version ourselves?

You will need to compile a new version from the updated source code that introduces the BM1397 support.

So essentially reinstall cgminer using kano’s version on his git?

Either that, or cherry-pick the relevant commit(s) once available and apply to your code base.

Another reason to make y'all wait a minute for hardware is driver verification. Kano made some fairly hefty changes so we need to test backward-compatibility with old hardware before calling it ready. Wouldn't want you guys to update cgminer and find out it only works on the Compac F now would we? That's a little too Apple for my comfort.

You will see that I've pulled all vh's code into my cgminer git already so it includes all his current gekko code, under his name.
https://github.com/kanoi/cgminer

I've been working on the addition of the BM1397 chip for the Ferrari, and the update push to my git will contain all the changes I've made on top of vh's code to support that, and the necessary small changes in cgminer and usbutils.
I've also made changes to support different chips more easily in the gekko code, and to clarify what the current code is doing in some places.

So basically it will be the same process as before except to pull master from my git, instead of vh's git, to get a version that supports all the gekkos.

Thats exactly what I was hoping it would be. Same process just different location to pull from. So the instructions I followed before would still be relevant. When will the new "kano-gekko--cgminer" be ready?

Thanks kano.

Well, as you can see, it already works fine, that's what sidehack used in that picture.
I'm just tuning it and making it more robust.

I'll of course push it before anyone gets a Ferrari, but as sidehack mentioned,
I want to do the full cross device testing, so once I get certain older devices I don't have and have tested them, I'll push it live.
Alas that's a 'not sure yet' but 'soon'.
