They're both good and very optimistic, infact the most trusted crypto in the market ever since before even though there are some issues and some factors that can really drag their prices down especially when it comes news, and probably that's because of some of the competitors in the space as well, but look what happens after all..ethereum and bitcoin still at the top so in my personal opinion no need to make comparison because obviously they're bot trusted and can guarantee good future wherein unlike other crypto in the market that still want to drag bitcoin and ethereum but still no proof how they can beat it up to now.  Lol

For me bitcoin is far superior than any other cryptocurrency. Ethereum is a good cryptocurrency too but bitcoin has the belief from most of the people in the crypto market.
Bitcoin being fully decentralized is trusted by most of the people while Ethereum is less decentralized than bitcoin.
Ethereum also has high gas fees issues which makes bitcoin the better option to make transactions.

If so you must have forgotten that bitcoin is the most profitable investment option in the last 10 years. Have you heard of Elon Musk buying thousands of Ethereum before? or did you ever get Saylor also buy Ethereum? If I'm not mistaken then they both never did that ^{[or I missed something]} so bitcoin is not only useful as a digital currency.

OP, you should read a lot about the innovations that exist in bitcoin so you don't misjudge something for compared to which is better and compare the transaction costs of the two here. Bitcoin transaction fees and ethereum transaction fees

Quite simple, they do different things so they really aren't comparable at the moment. If Ethereum ever becomes a store of value, then we can talk (it is going to be deflationary soon so maybe), and if Bitcoin can ever have smart contract capabilities like Ethereum then we can see then too. Until then, it is a moo point as Joey would say.

Comparing Ethereum and Bitcoin is something that only the maximalist do on both sides. Bitcoiners call it a scam because it took away a lot of focus away from the ethos of cryptocurrency and made everything about "smart-contracts". The "smart-contract" thing took off because a lot of smart people found that they could raise obscene amounts of money with zero oversight and zero responsibility. This encouraged scammers and builders alike to hop on the bandwagon and that snowballing effect continues to date with DeFi and NFTs.

They are now essentially two very different entities. There is no use comparing the two. Whenever the regulators the world over come to a consensus about ICOs, a lot of these ETH-based businesses will have a reckoning. It is a huge risk for anybody invested and that risk can pay off well or just make them broke. Whoever is willing to take the risk should be ready for both scenarios, no matter what the influencers say.

The same doesn't hold true for Bitcoin. There are enough institutions holding it as well as community that it will continue to have value as the only true, independent money that humanity has ever seen. Ethereum cannot hold a candle to Bitcoin in this department. Both in terms of ethos as well as sheer resilience.

To OP, I would only say this, if you really want to choose between two and become a maximalist, choose Bitcoin. Only Bitcoin maximalism makes sense because it has ethos. Ethereum maximalism is stupid because it is just another product made by centralized coporations. Bitcoin is an embodiment of ideas like freedom, courage, censorship-resistance and equality. Ethereum and others are centralized projects that can end up making you rich if you can make a timed exit or they take off.

The answer to this question depends on the purpose. Bitcoin is better than Ethereum as a medium of exchange. Clearly, Ethereum is currently handling transactions way worse than Bitcoin, and the fees are very high. Bitcoin also gained more interest as a form of money by companies around the world than Ethereum did. As for Ethereum, it's a superior platform upon which many other projects can be built. I'd also agree with some others who pointed out the creator of Bitcoin remaining unknown and not affecting its development as a plus.

I used to split my portfolio into Bitcoin and Ethereum. Now I am only really keeping most of it in Bitcoin after the recent dip.

Bitcoin and Ethereum are very different crypto asset.
Bitcoin is here to replace the money market, while ethereum is more of an OS for blockchain apps to build on.

Investment wise, I believe there are plenty of alts to look at, there's gamefi/web 3.0/metaverse/defi/L1/L2 tokens everywhere that you can make good returns.

But look at Ethereum (which is supposed to be the better alt), Vitalik pretty much still lead the entire ecosystem forward, fee burn, changing POW to POS.
And look at solana CEO saying it doesn't matter if the blockchain is down again.
Another problem I have with Ethereum is that it doesn't really cost much to kickstart a project, and their potential gain is massive since they are the token issuer.
imo this type of investment is just not for me.

I escape into crypto because I thought crypto can be a way to escape from the reckless policies from central banks, decentralization, DAO etc.

When you look at bitcoin, the hard limit wouldn't ever change, small but important changes with more happening on lightning network etc.
Bitcoin isn't going to break, it is going to transfer bitcoin safely and securely and will only get better, and it doesn't go down.

I feel like bitcoin is just the safest play right now in terms of crypto, everyone underestimate the potential of a new asset class and the strongest one at that

There are different things that we can compare and make different conclusion which one is better. Personally I prefer Ethereum to Bitcoin, as I use different defi-projects. Nevertheless, if the consider as currencies, Bitcoin is much more winning. First of all, it is more decentralised and secure. Secondly, it doesn't have such an influencer like Ethereum has in the face of Vitalik Buterin.

I think the popularity of Bitcoin is the reason why this happens because Ethereum just come along many years after , that is the point why Bitcoin is the most used and trusted mate.

The way Bitcoin is advancing will soon take over the world one day.  Ethereum is not moving forward as it is. I think Bircoin is in the front row, leaving everything behind, why not have both of them if you think that one of them is superior and you can see that the other is superior in the eyes of other investors.  But to be honest, being the first in the market is very important and Bitcoin is more expensive than the gold in the crypto market.  I think I saw the same discussion a few years ago that people are entering Bitcoin because it is stable, not standard but Bitcoin itself is a stable asset that you can guarantee if you hold on to it.  While in Ethereum, its quality is as good as before but this time, its fee is a discouragement that we have been told for Bitcoin Bitcoin, Bitcoin is not an alternative.

already explained by friends on above ,honestly having both is better without to have a war between coin ! bitcoin becomes an important role for the price of all altcoins because every investor will definitely start with bitcoin and then switch to altcoins ! times are progressing and there are already several markets that go pair from fiat to altcoin but not still enough to beat bitcoin because the supply is fixed ,while ethereum is not known and will continue to be produced until the Day of doomsday ! ^{Rare products will be more valuable than non rare one}

Smart contracts can be implemented into the Bitcoin Core blockchain,but I don't see any point in such move.
If smart contracts were so cool and revolutionary,then why isn't Ethereum the number 1 cryptocurrency in the world,dominating the crypto markets and beating Bitcoin in terms of usage,trading volume,price,adoption?
I'm not trying to criticize smart contracts,but they aren't so revolutionary and groundbreaking.
There is only a handful of successful smart contract projects,and most of them aren't that popular.
Smart contracts stopped being a buzzword in the ETH blockchain a few years ago.Currently,the NFTs are the new "cool thing" which was created on top of the Ethereum blockchain.

In my opinion, there's no reason to compare these 2 in the first place. Let us accept the fact that bitcoin has its top position in the crypto market and it is the reason why all the other alts have been created and developed like eth. With the creation of eth network, it provides different services that bitcoin can't offer to crypto users. And that we are grateful for their coming to existence. Smart contracts are now heavily used in a lot of applications. But still, people can't ignore the bitcoin dominance in the market. It is like the go-to of even newcomers. And the rest follows.

I don't have deep analysis but what i know is Ethereum is same with other altcoins, it launched when bitcoin is already core of cryptocurrency and with only that already made me believe there are no altcoin yet until now which can replace bitcoin. Because it already be core although maybe there are altcoin that will have price more than 1BTC in market.
