Some people think that because they have discretionary income, they should buy more than before when the price drops. In fact, there is no such rule.
Your level of aggressiveness towards your accumulation is up to your own discretion, but try to understand that as long as you stay within the confinement of your discretionary income, then you are fine, I don't know where you heard that you cannot buy at any pace of your choice within your discretionary income.

First, it is necessary to consider whether that discretionary income can really be invested or if there are future expenses, urgent needs, or family responsibilities. Of course, there are some people who, when they see a price drop, think that if they cannot buy more now, the opportunity will be gone.

Am really disappointed in you because you have been in the forum since 2021 but you are not learning. You are not even aware that investment in Bitcoin is best made with our discretionary income, which is the funds that is left, after all our basic expenses have been made, so you shouldn't be talking about other responsibilities, if you have truly sorted them out.
Emergency needs are taken care of with your emergency funds that is kept aside from your discretionary income, with the aim of protecting your investment against any real life emergencies, so try to learn fast so that you wouldn't misled newbies .

I mean no disrespect by this, but what are you saying? it seems like you have lost the exact sight of how important a discretionary funds are when it comes to investing in bitcoin. It clearly shows that you don’t even have the clue of what discretionary income is, because if you knew the meaning of discretionary income then you won’t be emphasizing on family responsibilities and any form of expenses. when Clearly all those are taken care of and which is why we called it discretionary income because it’s the money left after taking care of our necessities. so technically the money can be said to be extra funds with no responsibility attached to it because it all taken care of.

You are correct to say that discretionary funds are needed to invest into bitcoin, since if a person is buying bitcoin with non-discretionary funds, then they are trading or gambling since they need that money to pay for their expenses.

You are wrong in your proclamation that guys need to prepare to buy the dip.

So get the fuck out of here with such nonsense attempts to characterize dip buying as superior, when it is not.

It tends to be much better for guys to be buying consistently, persistently, ongoingly, regularly and perhaps even aggressively, than waiting around for dips that may or may not end up happening, especially guys who might not have a lot of money and especially guys who might rarely get opportunties to lump sum buy bitcoin.

Buying the dip could supplement (or hedge) lump sum buying and even supplement when a lot of money had already been put into bitcoin at a certain price.. but those kinds of things are not normal and regular for an overwhelming majority of normal and regular people who would be way the fuck better off to work on buying bitcoin regularly and also perhaps strengthening their cashflow to figure out how much bitcoin that they can regularly buy on a weekly-ish basis rather than getting caught up on trying to figure out whether dips are going to come or not.. probably especially their first 1-2 cycles in bitcoin, which is 4-8 years.

I agree with that anyone who don't invest discretionary income is not investment, rather a trading or the person is just gambling. That's why it's always advisable to settle or covered all the your expenses or bills, then use any available discretionary income readily and invest into bitcoin for a long-term period, waiting for the dips is total waste of time, because the only things you will be doing is watching how the bitcoin price goes, while your target price never comes. So building a strong bitcoin position through your normal regularly stacking. As a newbie just have the confidence and long-term patience.

Yeah he’s got it all wrong and mixed up, the discretionary income is used for investing but that doesn’t mean you should invest all of it unless you have already have a substantial backup funds then you can afford to be 100% aggressive into bitcoin.

To make one slight correction on your part @Big Dirams; Discretionary income isn’t just free money or extra money without any responsibility because it has it’s own responsibilities. As you use your main income to satisfy your needs your discretionary income satisfies your wants. It is used to invest, save and/or discretionary spend.

I  do not see anything wrong if someone decides to go all in with their discretionary income if they have or sees an opportunity to do that, since the job of the discretionary is to invest so there is nothing wrong because you will still grow another one from your source of income. discretionary income is an extra cash, a leftover cash, remaining cash after all needs must have been taken care of but yea, this does not mean it is not useful of course it is very useful yet it is someone that will make it to be this useful because there are people who make their discretionary income look useless by using it wrongly.

The
That just it. This are we’re a lot of people do get confused about what discretionary income actually means.

In a case were by you pay for your rent and buy groceries and any extra needs, then the remaind funds you sebd it directly into Bitcoin. In this kinda of case you have not calculate your discretionary income yet. You just skipped out the aspect of setting some money aside for things like emergency savings, family needs or even future bills. A true discretionary income is actually what remains after when your living expenses, emergency funds contributions and short term savings are being fully taken cared of.

If you invest true discretionary funds. You can wacht Bitcoin to drop from 30% to even 50% without having to panic, this because the funds not have any real life responsibility tired to it. But if you invest any money that has a real life responsibility tired to it and expecting to use it any time soon. Any sudden dip that happens is going to force you to panic I would want to sell at a loss. When your budget is being airtight first, peace of mind will be a home.

what kills many people is actually not lack of intelligences but the dirty mindset of thinking that investing into bitcoin requires huge amount of funds, or till they become rich so that they will waite for lump sum, which may never comes thier way.

The way people see bitcoin often depend on their mindsets. Your Investment in bitcoin begins in your mind,so if you have that mindset that bitcoin is a get rich scheme where you can pack quick money within a few days, that is because your plan was to exploit bitcoin for minimal gains rather than to invest in it for the long term. This dirty mindset is the reason why some people invest in bitcoin so that they can chase quick profit, and because of that, they have not been able to build wealth in bitcoin.

Chasing after quick gains isn't the right way to make significant profits in bitcoin, you are just doing yourself more harm than good because whatever you I'll gain for selling your bitcoin early is just from hand to mouth.

As a newbie investor, thinking about quick profits is wrong, you shouldn't use profits as your main reason you are investing in bitcoin because with such mentality, you might sell your bitcoin portfolio each time that you see profits. Your main focus should be to figure out your discretionary income to invest in bitcoin using the DCA and hold for the long term, profits isn't ruining.

It's you that don't know what discretionary income means because you are only to take care of your basic needs and monthly expenses, the leftover is your discretionary income. You don't take out emergency funds, contributions and short term savings before you say the leftover is discretionary income because there might be nothing left over very little amount left.

It's from your discretionary income that you are to take part of it to build your emergency funds by dividing it into three equal parts. the first part for your weekly DCA, the second part for building your emergency funds simultaneously with your bitcoin investment and the last part for your discretionary consumption.

You literally mixing things up here, the definition of  discretionary income with that of a budgeting strategy. By the definition in finance, discretionary income is the money that is left after all your basic necessities, living costs, and short term obligations ( including emergency savings) are taken care of.  Read more : https://www.investopedia.com/terms/d/discretionaryincome.asp

In the aspect we’re you are taking money out of your discretionary income to build up your emergency fund than that money was never a discretionary in the first place. It was essential financial obligation.

For your 3 part split strategy, it fine to allocate leftover cash. But calling money discretionary before your emergency cushion is built that really dangerous. Once a real life emergency happens and you haven’t built up your cash fund yet, you are going to be forced to dump your Bitcoin at a loss to pay for it. A safety net first then a true discretionary stacking.

Preference doesn't necessarily tell about the best strategy for anyone because that you chose to travel through the ocean to a country doesn't make it the best and here we are talking about the best strategy on a general ground not personal preference that can be rolling in ignorance. Some people's preference is just because of who guided them. For example, there is possibility of someone who have been trading but now decide to hold to continue with buy the dip strategy and that doesn't make it the best strategy.

You're right about any having their choice concerning what they feel is the best strategy but it doesn't make them right, buying the dip or lumpsum aren't bad strategies but we're talking about something that would make investing easier for a beginner or anyone, a strategy that makes it possible for everyone including poor and rich to own Bitcoin.
If anyone think other strategies are better they're free to use them but in this thread and forum, people who understand Bitcoin investment to a good extent would always advised people especially beginners to use the DCA strategy for investment.

You are right and I support what you have said. Your discretionary income is meant to be used for investment and bitcoin investment is best done using your discretionary income, if there is a good opportunity to buy either because of the price as at when the discretionary income is available investing with all of it is a very good idea since you will not be affected in any way and you still have other means of making money and your backup funds is intact. If you fail to use your discretionary to do your investment which is the primary purpose of keeping it then you have failed as an investor because the money was no used to do the original purpose why it was set aside. Investors should not misuse the opportunity to invest with the amount meant for investment they will regret if they see the profit they would have made later when they must have wasted the money in other things which doesn't profit them.

Everyone is free to decide on an investment strategy, but if someone makes a foolish decision, it is also important to provide them with the right guidance and it is the responsibility of an experienced investor. A person who wants to start Bitcoin should first be advised that no one is out of risk. Applying a good investment strategy can reduce that risk to a large extent. DCA is one of the best investment strategies through which investors of any level, rich or poor, will be able to reach a strong investment position.

They do not have to wait for the price to decrease or get excited to sell as soon as the pumping occurs. They have to regularly accumulate Bitcoin in the long term DCA method and grow their portfolio. The market is moving, sometimes there will be a decline and sometimes a bull run but those who do DCA regularly buying Bitcoin in every market reaction.

Choosing an investment method that is easy to follow consistently over the long term and is also realistic for new investors. Both lump sum investments and buying the dip can be effective for new investors. Investors need to have sufficient money in hand to follow these strategies. In the case of buying the dip, many people wait for the price to fall further and therefore cannot start at the right time. On the other hand, they also backtrack from their purchase decision if the price is falling. Instead of setting a perfect time, in the DCA method, Bitcoin can be bought regularly in small amounts according to their financial capacity. Even people with low income can accumulate Bitcoin gradually and do not have to take the pressure of investing a large amount of money at once. The main advantage is that it simplifies investment decisions and helps to follow a specific plan instead of emotions. New investors need a simple, flexible and consistent method that does not require advanced market analysis or large amounts of capital to follow. In this case, DCA is recommended as a realistic method.

The thing is not everyone understands what discretionary income is all about. Many people think that your discretionary income is money left after your basic expenses. They fail to realise that discretionary income is the money after budgeting for every expenses including unforseen expenses that cover emergency funds too. If you only budget for basic needs and assume the remaining money is your discretionary income, then you're only gambling because the discretionary income might become a money needed for other responsibilities. The reality is, not everyone actually has discretionary income yet, what they have is assumption of discretionary income and that's why many people struggle to hold for a longer term because what they are investing with is not actually a discretionary income.
I understand your concern but the definition of discretionary income and how much of it should actually be invested depend on the financial situation of the person investing in Bitcoin. What is left after the emergency fund alocation is not called discretionary income. Rather, the money left over after current basic and essential expenses and the necessary float from income is discretionary funds. Then those discretionary funds are allocated for Bitcoin investment, emergency and reserve funds, and some additional expenses. And so the problem you are describing is really we can related .  But its solution is not to change the definition of discretionary income. The problem is that many people think that having $200 discretionary means that the entire $200 is investable . but it is not right planning .

Suppose someone has income $1000 which come regularly. That person essential expenses of $600, and a fiat savings or other regular bills $200 to cover. Then his discretionary fund is $200. But that doesn't mean that $200 should be invested in Bitcoin. He might buy Bitcoin with $100 and  build a $50 backup fund if he has already back up then no need to allocate for back up. and keep $50 for extra expenses. But you're right which is that many people don't identify their expenses properly, and this is where fake discretionary income is created. Although this may happen to very few people. Because a conscious and with common sense person has the ability to understand that. he can give a little time to calculated then he can identify which fund should be allocated to which expense.

Discretionary income does not mean that all of it is investable. Discretionary income can also include your emergency fund and your personal expenses. If you do not have an emergency fund, you should focus on an emergency fund in addition to investments. When you put all of your discretionary income into Bitcoin, it is called aggressive investing. There is nothing wrong with buying aggressively, but there are a few things you need to consider before doing so. Some money may seem extra today, but if something happens next month, such as medical treatment, job loss, family stress, urgent home repairs, or a decrease in income, then that same money may be needed as protection.

Remember that the main goal of investing is not how much you buy, but whether you hold on to it even in bad times after buying. If you put all of your discretionary income into Bitcoin now and later have to sell it due to some real problems, your plan will be ruined as soon as you lose money.

As a new investor who has just started buying bitcoin newly it's wrong to use the buy the dip strategy it will never be effective for them, i don't know what made you think that buying the dip will be an effective strategy for new investors, to start investing in bitcoin you don't also need to have sufficient money as your income can still be unstable and you still invest in bitcoin, what really matters is figuring out if you have your discretionary income available to get started with, a recommended strategy for new investors should be the dca strategy it's a well suitable strategy for everyone, with the dca strategy the dip can be bought along with it without waiting for the dip to occur.

Edited.

You are right, and to add to it, aside DCA making it very easy to invest, it doesn’t delay your investment. It helps you invest the very minute you have your discretionary income. We know there are several strategies in bitcoin, but this thread also prioritize using the DCA.

Instead of thinking of using other strategies like buying the Dip, why not take advantage of the dip and lump sum instead of waiting and possibly missing out on investing in bitcoin.

We all know bitcoin investment is never meant to be delay, other strategies will only allow you to wait. DCA have several advantages over other strategies, so why use them.

Yes, investing is always done from discretionary income. But discretionary income is like a basket and you have to consider which part of that basket you will invest. Because that discretionary income is where the money to build your emergency fund comes from. I think you only see discretionary income as either investing or wasting. In reality, there are some other needs in between. All the money that is left after meeting all your essential expenses may not be worth keeping for a long time. Some money may be needed for your emergencies and some may be needed for short-term responsibilities. You may even need some as your personal discretionary expenses. These are not called waste, but rather they are important so that you do not get stressed when investing. If you are interested in saving Bitcoin, it is good to buy regularly, but you should buy in such a way that you do not have to sell Bitcoin after a few months due to any real problem. Because then the problem is not Bitcoin but your money management is wrong.  In the making.

Yes as an experienced investor this is the best advice you can give to someone who wants to start Bitcoin investment, because there are people whose own research isn't enough but advice like this will actually boost their confidence. Bitcoin price can fluctuate and waiting for it to dip before buying will make someone stay for a long time without having anything in their portfolio. Meanwhile someone who uses the DCA strategy will keep growing theirs because they don't have to wait for a dip to buy. That's why DCA is considered the best strategy for both rich and poor because it saves them from sitting on the sidelines for years.
