Bro u are right but i disagree with the emergency fund i mean the emergency fund should always be the first priority then investment because if he/she invest there money in bitcoin even after a week of his/her investment an emergency situation happened to them and the market is down by some percent then they will have to sell there bitcoin in a loss i mean a person invest there money for profits not for a loss that is why the investment in bitcoin is always on discretionary income because the goal is not about accumulating more  and more quantity of bitcoin but on financial stability like if bad time comes on a person they do not have to sell there investments.
I will also disagree with you on this aspect of emergency funds being the first priority before investing. This isn’t true actually. I think you need to know more about the difference between the emergency fund and funds and discretionary funds. Emergency funds can also be very important to keep the investment smoothly, but one must not necessarily build an emergency fund before starting investment in bitcoin.

It’s is very much okay for some to just set aside some portion of their funds which is regarded as their discretionary funds, that’s  after settling their daily need and expenses to invest in bitcoin while gradually building their emergency funds as the investment is on. The only thing to try to avoid is that money that is invested in bitcoin should not be money that will be needed to meet daily expenses. And this way they will be able to build their bitcoin holdings, and also their emergency funds at the same time without  putting themselves under unnecessary financial pressure.

We can't rely on gifts alone for our Bitcoin investments because it doesn't come always, yet, it doesn't mean we can't buy some Bitcoin with cash gifts when we get them. It's our own already, and if our basic needs are already take care of from our income and/or from the same cash gift and we still have some left overs, then we can still buy some Bitcoin with it, or perhaps, we can increase our DCAing amount.

Take for instance, a guy who works and earns money, and as usual, he received his income and handles his basic needs and getting his usual discretionary and then invests it into Bitcoin. And then, after that he gets some cash gift form someone or wins a lottery or something else that puts an extra income into his hands. Haven settled his basic needs previously and has bought some chunk of Bitcoin from his discretionary, what will he do with the cash gift? Is he soposed to use the money for personal enjoyments or just keep the money in fiat and leave it to inflation?
I think it is not bad if he decides to put some part of it into Bitcoin investment and even some into his back up funds if he is still building, and maybe some for discretionary consumption. So yea, cash gifts can be used to invest in Bitcoin given the present financial circumstances.

When you win the lottery or receive a cash gift from someone it is a sudden and irregular event. If you base your main financial plan on such an unreliable source you are basically thinking like a gambler. Regular Bitcoin is not possible with the money from a lottery ticket.
I agree that planning to invest regularly based on receiving a gift or winning the lottery is not reliable. But you might need to study @Perfect-World's point more carefully. The money he is talking about has already been received. So the decision to use the money he has today cannot be canceled due to the uncertainty of when the next gift will come. Because it does not require him to commit to buying regularly. Someone may have received a gift and considering his necessary expenses and cash security, he may put a part of it in Bitcoin. If then the new gift does not come, then he may not make new purchases, which does not mean that the first investment becomes illegal or gambling.

The main thing is whether the money is worth holding in the long term, or whether he is investing from the money he needs for medical treatment or education. You need to understand the difference between the two, the decision to buy the lottery and the decision to use the money he receives after winning are different things.

It is not compulsory to start investing in Bitcoin and building an emergency fund at the same time; it is just very important for investors to start planning for an emergency fund first. However, since it has been stated that those who are unable to manage both while beginning can go ahead, this shouldn't be an opportunity to ignore the emergency fund or to have a mindset that it is not too important.

While it is not compulsory to start with it, some investors can be careless and find pleasure in not doing the right thing. If you are able to start investing and meet all your expenses, then having an emergency fund should be considered, no matter how small it may be. I know it is not easy to manage everything, but investors need to focus on everything important related to investing in Bitcoin because they all play their own roles.
You are contradicting your first statement, after saying it’s not compulsory to start investing and building the emergency funds together, you still went further to state that it is important for investors to start planning for an emergency funds first. In my opinion, the most important thing is for investors to figure out a discretionary income and  start buying bitcoin first and not the emergency funds first. An investor can go ahead to start buying bitcoin When the discretionary income is ready and along the line start building the emergency funds or he can decide to allocate a part of the discretionary income to use in buying bitcoin and the other part into building an emergency funds.

This is becoming very alarming and i think, people will continue to have a different view and plan concerning starting bitcoin investment. There are people who will want to start building their bitcoin investment first before building their emergency funds, there are also people who will love to start or have both before they start and i do not want to say anyone of these folks  are completely wrong but i will say, everyone should do what works for them so long it does not stop them from investing and it is from their discretionary.

That right, when investing in bitcoin the most important Thing is to get discretionary income and start investing, it your discretionary income is big enough to start saving for your emergency funds, then it fine, but in case where the discretionary income is barely enough, then you will need to start your investment first. So as you are investing, you will be looking for way to get more discreet income so you can save for your emergency funds.

Sometimes we don’t have much left after solving our basic needs from our income, so with the little left we can begin investing, if we want to wait to get emergency funds first it will only lead to delay in investing in bitcoin, which is absolutely wrong.

Before even thinking of having emergency funds first before investing, the question to ask oneself is "how much emergency funds is enough?", answering that question honestly, will reveal to anyone that keeping emergency funds first before starting Bitcoin investment is not a requirement and not necessary since it can keep happening while you keep buying Bitcoin.
This particular discussion has been here for awhile and will continue to be cause some people still misunderstand the whole thing, instead of creating emergency funds first as some people thinks that it should be, wouldn't it be better for such persons to invest along with creating emergency funds, in my opinion, I think it is far better for us to apply wisdom in doing things, the importance of emergency funds can not be overlooked, I think those that are reasoning this way, should first consider what if they do not invest after creating emergency funds first, from what I know, discreationary income first, then emergency funds.

For some time, I have been getting the sense that the label of "emergency fund" has been detracting from the ability to describe what is likely going on in the beginning, since it seems crazy as fuck that any of us would just set aside funds (cash) that is locked up, so the cash has to be flexible, especially in the beginning to cover any fluctuations in the income/expenses, and yeah, the more cash that we build up, then the more likely that some of the cash can be locked up as untouchable except for emergencies, yet emergencies are also likely not as dramatic as guys are making them out to be.  Whenever a guy has basic expenses that cannot be covered by discretionary funds, then that could be considered an emergency since the back up funds have to be used to pay for the expenses, especially if the expenses cannot be deferred (or it is not practical to try to defer the expenses) until the next pay period.

So of course initially for guys who might start to buy bitcoin without much if any back up funds, they are largely making sure that they have enough cash to make sure that they are not spending beyond their discretionary funds, so that they have enough money to cover their expenses until their next paycheck comes.

The longer that both back up funds and the bitcoin stash is built up, then the more likely more and more extra cash will be building up that is largely not used and never tapped into, and guys might go 4-10 years or longer that they never tap into a certain amount of their cash that continues to build up and to become larger and larger, but never touched.. just sitting there as a cushion so that the bitcoin never would need to be tapped into... so yeah, there are likely priorities in which money can be spent from first and which money has more flexibility and guys might be loosey goosey in their labelling of the funds or they might try to be strict in how they label their extra money, yet in the end, if guys end up fucking up because they either keep too much back up funds or they keep too little, then hopefully they can learn from their mistakes, the mistakes, hopefully, are not too big, and then can adjust in regards to how much cash they are keeping in order to balance out how much bitcoin they are building up.

Over the years, there have been several guys who accurately proclaimed that it makes little sense to be creating emergency funds when there are no bitcoin to protect, and since we are in a bitcoin thread, we are emphasizing the getting started with bitcoin, the building of bitcoin and the utility of the back up funds in terms of building/maintaining a bitcoin stash that may well be 4-10 years or longer, and surely my own emphasis has been that bitcoin tends to be something that guys should be shooting for the building and/or maintenance for 10 years or longer unless they have some health/age considerations that might cause 10 year plus investment timelines to not be practical/reasonable.

So, part of the motivation of back up funds is to put guys into a potentially strong position to keep building and holding bitcoin for 4-10 years or longer, and surely in terms of practicalities, even a person who might have a timeline of less than 10 years, and even as low as 4 years, there may well be practicalities that they would never be selling any coins that had less than a 4 year timeline, even if they might have to start to slowly cash out of their bitcoin holdings.. so perhaps they build their bitcoin holdings for 4 ish years by DCA buying and then they spend the next 4 years selling what they had bought by selling the coins that they purchased first before selling other coins, so that none of the coins would have less than a 4 year investment timeline once they start to sell them.

Of course, we may well make bitcoin accumulation, maintenance and liquidation plans based on our preferences, yet at the same time, we understand that there might end up evolving some changes in our circumstances that cause us to have to deviate from what we thought was going to be our ways of building up and managing our bitcoin holdings.

I support your stance here because starting bitcoin investment requires a discretionary income and if you don’t have back up funds you can still start but it is better to have and start up with a little back up funds than not having anyone at all. The reason is because investors don’t need to be left with an empty wallet after they have finished buying bitcoin, they need a little funds to use and back themselves up after buying bitcoin so that they will still have something they can hold on to pending when they are able to receive another income where they can also figure out a discretionary income to use again to buy bitcoin.
You don't need to kill yourself if you don't have any form of backup funds on ground before getting started and that's the main reason why you shouldn't delay and build your  emergency funds simultaneously with your bitcoin investment. You should know that you emergency funds is for a real life problem will play out during your bitcoin accumulation journey.

The money that you're talking about is float which is the funds that you set aside in case an expected expenses pops up during the period while you are waiting for your next pay. You should also have your discretionary consumption too. So, if you have float and discretionary consumption, you can settle this.

There is nothing wrong with the way that you are describing the situation of a beginner @Sim_card, since many of us understand that the main thing that a beginner needs to assure is that he is not using money past his discretionary funds to get started buying bitcoin, and if he cannot assure himself with sufficient satisfaction that he has enough money to cover all of his basic expenses until his next paycheck, then he does not have enough discretionary funds to buy bitcoin.

Many of us likely realize that there would be a considerable amount of risk if a guy were to be measuring his discretionary funds each week and coming close to maximizing his discretionary funds each week, and it would likely start to seem that the guy is gambling rather than investing if he is not also building up his back up funds on a weekly basis as he is building up his bitcoin stash.. and many of us consider something like an equal distribution to bitcoin stack versus back up funds stash to be reasonable and/or practical as long as the guy has income/expenses that are somewhat regular, but if the guy has a lot of potential irregularities in his income/expenses, then he may well have to start to build up his back up funds in a greater way so that he does not end up falling into a situation that he cannot cover all of his basic expenses, especially due to loss of income and/or increase in expenses, so then he ends up having to tap into his bitcoin at a time that is not of his own choosing.

And, yeah, if the newbie comes to bitcoin and does not really have much vision about his bitcoin timeline, it would seem that his buying bitcoin would motivate him to learn about it and perhaps figure out that he has to protect his bitcoin investment, which also ends up leading to an ongoing building up of back up funds, even if he might have had started out without much or any back up funds.

---
You forget about your discretionary consumption which should also be considered when dividing your discretionary income because you don't need to deprive yourself from your wants. However, if I  am going to share my discretionary income into three equal parts, it will be 1/3 for my weekly DCA, 1/3 for building my emergency funds and the last 1/3 for my discretionary consumption.
This indicates that you are quite good at adjusting these three things to avoid serious problems. By doing as you stated, all desires and needs are well-maintained and there will be no disputes, whether for consumption needs, building an emergency fund, or investing weekly so that all our desires can be achieved according to their respective procedures.

But what you need to understand is that many people don't follow the ideas you've outlined in this topic, and then they always have disagreements, with problems that end up with one of these three things being left behind and not running according to their wishes. This is caused by the lack of knowledge they have about how to divide their income so that they always have a deadlock in doing things related to the topic we are discussing here.

Just because others fuck up, don't know what they are doing, or fail/refuse to execute good practices, that does not mean that we should be modeling our own behaviors and/or plans around the fuck ups.

In other words, why would we want to be spending our time thinking about the various ways that guys fuck up unless we also might be wanting to figuring out good and better practices so that we might be able to follow the better practices rather than being preoccupied about the various ways that we could screw it up?

Each of us is responsible to come up with systems that work for us so that we can hopefully invest in bitcoin on a regular and ongoing basis while also finding some balance in how we are using our discretionary funds, and yeah, there could well be ways that any of us overcompensate in one direction or another, yet if we are ongoingly trying to pay attention to what we are doing and perhaps to tweak our systems/practices from time to time, then we likely will fall into practices that are well balanced for ourselves and our circumstances, including having better abilities to adapt whatever we might be doing from time to time.

[edited out]
Bitcoin is not a lottery or a game of chance that must be bought with a gift from someone at the mercy of someone else. Our focus should be on a completely real and reliable source of income whether it’s a job or a business. What’s left over from your own hard earned income minus expenses is real discretionary income with which you can regularly deposit Bitcoin.

Get rid of the unreliable or fantasy of gifts. Strengthen your income stream stack Bitcoin with your excess cash flow and hold it long term in 4 to 10+year cycles that’s the only realistic and effective way.

Guys can buy bitcoin from any discretionary funds that they have, and guys do not need to have a reliable source income to buy bitcoin, whether it is getting started or continuing to buy bitcoin from time to time.

Of course, if we are striving to hold our bitcoin for 4-10 years or longer, it is quite likely that we will need to have ongoing income to cover our  expenses, and we may or may not be able to continue to buy bitcoin or even to resist from selling some or all of our bitcoin holdings in circumstances that we do not have enough income to ongoingly cover our basic expenses.. so yeah, in the context of having ongoing basic expenses for the next 4-10 years or longer, we have to account for those kinds of matters in terms of our future, yet each time that we consider buying bitcoin or not, we can still determine based on present circumstances if we believe that our discretionary funds are sufficient to be able to afford to buy bitcoin, and the source of such discretionary funds need not be from a steady source of income.

[edited out]
When you win the lottery or receive a cash gift from someone it is a sudden and irregular event. If you base your main financial plan on such an unreliable source you are basically thinking like a gambler. Regular Bitcoin is not possible with the money from a lottery ticket.

You seem to be reading too much into any bitcoiner's use of irregular income to buy bitcoin, and also you have ONLY been registered here for slightly more than a month, yet you want to lecture guys about how to buy bitcoin and/or how to deploy cashflow management practices?

There's nothing wrong with participating, and even providing contrary ideas, yet it seems problematic for newbies, such as yourself, to be coming in with dogmatic proclamation that don't even seem to be attempting to account for various income and/or expense scenarios that bitcoiners might be facing, whether we are referring to newbie bitcoiners or bitcoiners who might have been buying bitcoin for a while.

How about you?  Have you started buying bitcoin, yet? or are you merely wanting to chime in about bitcoin buying theories?  If you post about your own circumstances or even some variation of your own circumstances, then it might help to keep you more grounded, even though surely there are some guys here who seem to want to speculate that the circumstances of other guys are the same as theirs, which may well not be the case, either, especially related to any of the individual circumstances that might apply.  Have you read and/or thought about the application of individual circumstances and how they might vary?

No no my friend, I think you’ve gotten it all wrong.  Backup funds is important and necessary even as you’re starting your investment. It is mandatory you start investing with some kind of backup funds that’s why it’s important you invest with your discretionary income because it gives you the flexibility to build both your investment and your backups simultaneously.
Don't you think you are missing the point here? I know that having back up funds is very important when investing in bitcoin but that doesn't mean an investor must have e everything in place before they can start investing in bitcoin, the reason why we are to use our discretionary income is that it gives the room to build your investment gradually while you set aside money for your back up and also other necessary funds like the emergency funds from your discretionary income as you continue to buy bitcoin.
Having backup funds is not necessary for anyone to start investing in Bitcoin. If you have discretionary fund, you are ready to invest instead of waiting to build a backup funds, which is going to be a waste of time. The most important to understand before investing in Bitcoin is to invest what you can afford to lose. It should not money you may need in term of any financial emergency.

Backup funds is the money you set aside to save your investment when you get an emergency. You can use the emergency to cover expenses instead of spending your investment. Our backup funds are not meant for investment, even if we are not comfortable to continue our accumulation, we should not use our backup funds to invest.

You just making shit up @SmartCharpa?

1) if a guy does not have any back up funds, then how is he going to know that he had not invested beyond the level of his discretionary funds?

2) Do you know that back up funds is a general category that describes emergency funds and reserve funds?  Reserve funds are more flexible than emergency funds.  Generally, guys here, including yours truly, like to consider emergency funds as being ONLY available to use on basic expenses that cannot be deferred until the next paycheck.  So yeah, buying bitcoin with emergency funds would be a bad practice unless the emergency funds were excessive and they were really reserve funds rather than emergency funds.  Guys have to figure out how they classify their funds, and surely if they end up screwing up by keeping too many back up funds or keeping too little back up funds, then they will end up having to pay the price for their screw up.

with the reason being that the emergency fund is an additional fund for us to invest in Bitcoin, especially if the portfolio we are building looks good in performance, so the use of the emergency fund is to purchase Bitcoin to increase the amount of our investment because with discretionary income alone, it looks like it is starting to improve, so it needs to be added to be able to have more assets in the future.
Emergency funds used to buy Bitcoin? How and why? This is so insane.

If you do that, just know that your accumulated portfolio as at great risk of been sold out unplanned and even at loss, because when emergencies show up, you would have nothing to tackle it.
I don’t why people keep mistaking emergency funds as discretionary income.

If someone use their emergency funds to buy Bitcoin, what are they going to use to solve unexpected problems? Emergencies do happen, and using emergency funds to invest is not a good idea. You will end up selling your Bitcoin at the end.

This part is true. Emergency funds tend to be the last line of defense that exists before guys would be forced to tap into their bitcoin, so it seems crazy for anyone to believe that it is a good idea to use emergency funds to buy bitcoin, when presumptively they have no other back up funds by the time they end up reaching their emergency funds.

There is no problem if an investor does not keep an emergency fund at the beginning. However, if a good amount of BTC is accumulated, then it becomes necessary for him to create an emergency fund. Because an emergency situation can come at any time, so in an emergency situation and in order not to have to sell the investment in any way,
I disagree with you on this. What happens if an emergency comes when the investor has barely started accumulating bitcoin, what if someone loses his job or a family member falls sick, and suddenly he needs money urgently. Where will he get it from?

Huh?  What the fuck are you talking about @Grease5000?  If a person is brand new to bitcoin (and thinking about buying bitcoin), you think that he has to build an emergency fund first?

What was he doing prior to bitcoin?

To me, it seems best that guys get the fuck started from whereever they are at.  We are talking about investing in bitcoin in this thread and you want to proclaim that it is more important for guys to prepare for emergencies (preseumptively when they had not done so previously) based on their coming to bitcoin?

Why can't guys start from where they are at?

Tell us?  Is this hypothetical bitcoin newbie that you are referring without any back up funds at the time that he comes to bitcoin, so then he figures that he needs to build up his emergency funds before he can get started buying bitcoin?

By the way, I can also imagine some bitcoin newbies who might already established back up funds that are equivalent to 3 months of their expenses, so then can those guys start buying bitcoin?

What about guys with 1 month of expenses built up?

How about 2 months of expenses?

How about 2 weeks of expenses?

Where is the line? and yeah, I get the sense that you are referring to a guy who is brand new to considering buying bitcoin, and maybe he has no back up funds or very little back up funds, and since you are putting so much emphasis in all of the things that might happen, the guy needs to prepare for those things that might happen before he can start to buy bitcoin.  Right?  That is what you are saying @Grease5000?

An emergency fund is never a reward for accumulating enough b itcoin, rather see it as a protection that helps you keep the bitcoin you already own.

Early you seemed to be describing the situation of a guy who did not have any bitcoin, and now you want to presume that the guy has some bitcoin.  How long has this guy been accumulating bitcoin?  Similar to you?  Around 10 months? or some other timeline?  How has he been balancing out his discretionary funds?  Did he start to buy bitcoin with some back up funds already in place or did he start from zero?

Personally, I would imagine that the circumstances of guys who had been accumulating bitcoin for 6-10 months or more would be different from guys who are brand new to buying bitcoin, so in that regard, it is good to attempt to be clear about what kind of guy we are talking about and if he had already been building up his bitcoin and/or his back up funds, then maybe to give some sense of where he is at.

Many times we refer to the circumstances of the very beginners when we are talking about the status of their back up funds, yet surely many of us likely realize that guys may well stay in their fairly early stages of bitcoin accumulation for a whole cycle or more, yet the longer that they have their various practices in place, then they are affected by the practices that they had already been following rather being as concerned about how to get started, even though there are likely a reasonably decent number of guys who might get into bitcoin with false starts and/or needs to reformulate their start and/or to make some reasonably large adjustments to what they are doing or planning to do in connection with their bitcoin accumulation and/or their cashflow management.

You can be accumulating bitcoin while also building an emergency fund along side it with  whatever discretionary income you have left and you equally build a backup fund  with some the discretionary income you have. There is no point waiting until your bitcoin  stash is big before preparing for a problem that can happen at any time.

O.k.  At least you seem to acknowledge that both the bitcoin stash and the emergency fund can be built at the same time, even the you seem to be giving greater emphasis to building the emergency fund rather than the bitcoin stash building, yet sure, maybe you are responding to rebut some of the points that were being made by Lembo69 - however, I doubt that the mere responding to (or even attempting to rebut) the points of another member excuses when guys seem to be perverting various kinds of good/better practices - and surely each of us have to start out from where we are at, yet at the same time, where we are at may well affect how much emphasis we might give to bitcoin accumulation as compared with making sure that we have a reasonable amount of back up funds, and surely, I would expect that the longer that we are in bitcoin, the more solid our back up funds would end up becoming, even though surely some guys are able to build up their back up funds faster than others, and surely other guys might end up suffering some set backs when they had been building up their back up funds which surely might end up contributing to their taking longer to get their back up funds to a place that they consider to be reasonable.

I think that there have been plenty of times in this thread (and perhaps some other threads?) that I had suggested to build up bitcoin and back up funds at similar rates while at the same time recognizing that guys have discretion in terms of how much emphasis that they want to give to each of the areas, and at the same time, as a guy's bitcoin stash becomes larger, such as when he might have had invested a year or more of his income into bitcoin, he may well also start to feel that both his cash back ups need to be BIGGER, but also that portions of his cash back ups will likely need to be kept in forms that are "working" since it becomes more and more problematic to be trying to keep so much money in cash (or cash equivalents), yet at the same time, there tends to be value in keeping more and more cash, especially the larger a bitcoin stash becomes.

Since it tends to take quite a bit of time before many bitcoiners get to the stage of having a lot of bitcoin, we tend to spend way more time talking about problems that relate to building up and getting to those points rather than presuming that guys already have built up large bitcoin stashes.. Another thing with getting to larger sized bitcoin stashes is that the dilemmas do not necessarily go away, yet it seem that the options for dealing with various dilemmas change which also seems to contribute towards a lot more variation in regards to how guys might transition into higher stages of bitcoin accumulation or maybe even transitioning into variations of maintenance rather than bitcoin accumulation... but yeah, guys might not even make it to those more advance stages of their bitcoin journey if they do not follow strong bitcoin accumulation and/or cashflow management practices.

There is no problem if an investor does not keep an emergency fund at the beginning. However, if a good amount of BTC is accumulated, then it becomes necessary for him to create an emergency fund. Because an emergency situation can come at any time, so in an emergency situation and in order not to have to sell the investment in any way, it is necessary for an investor to keep an emergency fund. However, if someone thinks that he has to keep an emergency fund before investing, then he is wrong. Because first of all, you should come to investment and then think about the emergency fund.
It is not compulsory to start investing in Bitcoin and building an emergency fund at the same time; it is just very important for investors to start planning for their investment first.

Huh?  Are you even in the same thread?  Emergency funds come first?  Since when?  Aren't we in a bitcoin thread, and specifically my bitcoin investment ideas thread?  You are not going to catch me proclaiming emergency funds need to come first, except to proclaim that any guys starting has to have enough back up funds to make sure that he is not investing beyond his discretionary funds, which actually continues to be the case throughout his bitcoin investment, since one of the principle underlying presumptions of investing in bitcoin is that guys are investing from their discretionary funds and not from funds that they need to cover basic expenses.

However, since it has been stated that those who are unable to manage both while beginning can go ahead, this shouldn't be an opportunity to ignore the emergency fund or to have a mindset that it is not too important.

Oh gawd.    Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes  You seem to be saying that it is better to establish emergency funds first, but since people are incompetent or screwed up, we are going to proceed with an inferior practice that involves building up the emergency funds in a more delayed way.

Get the fuck out of here @Rockstarguy.  Maybe you should go start your own thread about how it is better to create emergency funds first.  Roll Eyes

You seem to be kicking and screaming in regards to agreeing that it is o.k. to start bitcoin investing from where ever a person is and to build up an emergency fund at the same time.. but if you had your druthers, then you really would prefer to build up the emergency fund first.

1) Self-Custody is a right.  Resist being labelled as: "non-custodial" or "un-hosted."  2) ESG, KYC & AML are attack-vectors on Bitcoin to be avoided or minimized.  3) How much alt (shit)coin diversification is necessary? if you are into Bitcoin, then 0%......if you cannot control your gambling, then perhaps limit your alt(shit)coin exposure to less than 10% of your bitcoin size...Put BTC here: bc1q49wt0ddnj07wzzp6z7affw9ven7fztyhevqu9k

One of the major problems some investors face is mistaken the reserve funds as not part of the back up funds, and so they give wrong proclamations and wrong use of both words. Surely, the back up funds is a general term for both emergency funds and reserve funds, and if guys have enough discretionary, while they are investing, they are also building emergency funds and also reserve funds, so that in situations where your financial emergencies supersedes your emergency funds, then your reserve funds can still come in to help out the situation so that you don't have to get the urge to tap into your investment.

In so many situations too, an investor who has enough back up funds, some part of his reserve funds can also be used to buy some Bitcoin for the case of controlled aggressiveness so that you don't get to over do it, maybe during Dips. Thus, the role of the reserve funds is somewhat multi dimensional, where in most cases, it steps in as a safety net in supporting the emergency funds, ams sometimes too can be used to buy and/or support discretionary spending. So, proclaiming that the reserve funds can never and/or should never be used to buy Bitcoin in rear cases can be misleading.

Surely, guys can start from where they are. The thought of thinking of building a considerable portion of emergency funds before starting there investment is wrong and can delay the investor from starting generally. If a guy is able to figure out his discretionary income, he can start immediately, using the DCA strategy, and he could gradually begin to build the emergency funds alongside his stash. What is most important is starting your investment, and then, emergency funds can follow. Of course, he could figure things out gradually on how best to balance his buying and building a substantial safety net while investing.

Have you read and/or thought about the application of individual circumstances and how they might var

I first heard about Bitcoin from one of my friends. He gave me a basic idea of Bitcoin initially. When I got involved and began to ask different questions he did his best to explain the subject. I was inspired by him and began investing in Bitcoin. For this I am blessed by my friend.

I am a job holder. My investment portion isn't huge amount  but I feel it is better to make it happen regularly and in my own capacity than to begin investing with a ton of cash. Since I am not primarily responsible for the financial responsibility of my family I can invest a part of my income for my future.

I make an effort to have my income spread out in a few components. I save one part for emergencies and the other part of the money goes towards buying clothes and taking care of myself going to dinner with friends and other personal expenses. I invest a large part of the remaining part in Bitcoin. I want to feel good about myself and create something for myself for the future in that way.

So it is a fact that within my family I am the one who primarily invests in bitcoin. My family who are not into Bitcoin technology still prefers to keep money in a bank as secure and reliable as compared to Bitcoin.

I am still in the learning curve of Bitcoin. Investing in Bitcoin is not enough i need to understand the technology risks and actions of the market and its longterm prospects. I think learning never stops and it's really vital to learn and find out what you've done wrong and how to fix it.

I'm here not to just talk about my experience but because I want to learn from someone who knows what they're doing, someone that has done it before me.  sir I think I will get a lot of learning from your experience advice and opinions which will help me to be a better investor and to minimize the likelihood of getting into the wrong investment decisions in the future. My idea is to build a solid base foundation for investing over the long term, not get rich quick.

The part you are missing is the area you said that it is mandatory to have some back up funds before one can start investing in bitcoin maybe i didn't get you meant by that well, back up funds should include emergency funds it's important having an emergency funds i was only saying even if an investor never have some emergency funds initially that they can still get started with their bitcoin investment investment provided that they have some discretionary income to get started with them other back up funds can be sorted out along the investment process.
Okay again, we’re kinda like on the same page but the word Mandatory is the problem here. Yes I said mandatory because I believe it’s necessary to have some form of financial backup when investing.

Maybe using the word mandatory makes it sound like a strict rule but what I mean is that I consider it very essential to start with a form of backup even if it’s not fully established.

For example; at the initial beginner level you don’t have established backup but you have discretionary money.
You can start investing maybe 20-50% of your discretionary and keeping the rest that could form your backup funds rather than investing maybe 50-80% of your discretionary income and may not be left with much.
However even the 50-80% is better than someone who invests 100% without any form of backup just because it’s discretionary money.

I prefer you start with a backup funds even if it’s small than without. The goal shouldn’t just be to start investing in bitcoin but to start in a way that’ll not leave you financially vulnerable.
For starters, making investments by putting some money at a time by dollar-cost averaging technique makes much more sense then keeping aside 50-80% of our investible capitals as a reserve just because we don’t want to lose anything.
Buying Bitcoin in small amounts and keeping the necessary cash are not alternatives to each other. The first one is how to enter the investment, the second one is how to deal with the need outside the investment.

Imagine I am talking about someone who buys small amounts every week, but each time he buys with the last part of his discretionary income. Even if his each purchase is small, after a few months his entire savings may be in Bitcoin. In such a situation, if his emergency arises, then the fact that he bought in stages will not solve that expense. On the other hand, someone may buy a relatively large amount once and have enough cash outside. Therefore, judging security only by the purchase amount can sometimes be wrong. Of course, you may disagree with the percentage given by @Agbam. Because a specific percentage calculation may not be applicable to everyone. According to a specific percentage, how much cash the person already has rather than investing and what responsibilities he has on it. If someone's extra money is almost zero, it may be reasonable to put more into savings at times. There is no need to follow the same ratio if the other person has enough cash.

Investing and emergency savings should be done concurrently because, in the event of an emergency, having emergency funds is necessary. For this reason, before you begin, you must have a source of income, which you can use as a foundation. Once you have that foundation, you can put many things in place. After all, money will be the most crucial factor. Because income is important, only does that ae finacially boyant can single-handedly buy without needing so much.

It's good they do what favours them, but everything is still around funds. You still need money, even if you want to start with the emergency funds, that way you will be able to invest confidently because money is important when it comes to investing.

I support the fact that you need to have emergency funds on standby because, even if you have discretionary income, I will still suggest you have emergency plans because that is the only way you will have your backup funds. Not just me, but every other investor will always suggest that you have emergency funds because, when you have that, it will only serve its purpose as an emergency fund, and it's not as if you can not start without emergency funds, but it is advised to have them.

It is more of an investment process that we need to take seriously because no investor will tell you about emergency funds, and that is why we need to be ready before you even start anything. It is always good for you to have emergency funds because this is a great step that good investors have taken, so it will be nice for us to also follow in their footsteps so that we don't end up not completing the journey we about or have started.

If someone thinks that he may not have an emergency fund and he continues to deposit BTC. And if a good amount of BTC is deposited in his Bitcoin Wallet, then if he has an emergency situation, he may be forced to sell his investment. Therefore, an investor should keep a specific fund for an emergency fund.

Do you know that an emergency fund makes an investor's investment easier and plays a role in making his investment sustainable. If an investor has an emergency fund, he can easily face any danger, it does not affect his investment or his investment does not suffer any loss. Therefore, we all should keep some amount of money for emergency fund at a specific time. And move forward without hesitation for long-term investment goals.
It seems you’re just going in circles, cause your position is not consistent,no where you’re standing.
You say there’s no problem if an investor starts without an emergency fund and shouldn’t have to worry until he has accumulated sufficient bitcoin. Let me as you do you control emergency situations? Do you know when it’ll happen?

From your perspective, it seems emergency only affects you based on your amount of stash and that’s when creating emergency funds or any backup becomes necessary. My friend that is wrong and you’re only deceiving yourself if you believe that.

An emergency situation doesn’t become a problem because of how much bitcoin you’ve accumulated it becomes a problem when you’re financial situation isn’t ready for it.

Someone who has just started investing can face an emergency just as much as one who has accumulated 1BTC or more. If you have no financial backup when it comes you’ll be forced to sell which is why I still prefer you start with some form of backup even if it’s small and build from it.

What a brand new investor needs is a discretionary income and not income because there are some people who have income but they cannot meet up with their monthly expenses and basic needs because they're eating from hand to mouth. This is why you need a discretionary income even if you have an income. Figure out your discretionary income from there and use part of it to invest in Bitcoin using DCA method to buy consistent and persistent if possible aggressively.

If you check your income and you don't have a discretionary income, you are to cut down your expenses and look for a second means of income to enable you use the funds from your second job as your discretionary income and invest into bitcoin overtime. Anyone that his income doesn't have regular discretionary income, he can buy when his discretionary income is available and look for other means to increase his income for a stable discretionary income into order for him to be consistent with his DCA.

It not helpful to build your emergency funds first as a no coiner because you have been a no coiner for long and want to remain a no coiner when you can immediately, become a low coiner by building your emergency funds simultaneously, with your bitcoin investment. Maybe, you love staying having fun as a no coiner and you will regret it in future.

Having a source of income is not a guarantee that you can invest in bitcoin, because basic expenses may overwhelm you and you may be unable to have a reserve left to invest with, so what am investor need in other to invest in bitcoin effectively is a discretionary income, which is the money that is left after all his basic needs have been met, not a source of income as you are saying.

. You still need money, even if you want to start with the emergency funds, that way you will be able to invest confidently because money is important when it comes to investing.
Time and time again it has been stated very clearly that emergency funds is not meant for investment, because the essence of having it in place is to protect your Bitcoin investment, from any emergency situation, so if you decide to invest with it and emergency situation comes up within that period you decided to invest with it, just know that you are going to temper with your investment, so that you can attend to that emergency needs, so it's totally a bad idea to gamble with your entire Bitcoin portfolio by investing with your emergency funds.

I disagree with the idea that everyone should simply do what works for them. Because some choices can put an investor in a difficult position later. Accumulating bitcoin first while ignoring building an emergency fund may force someone to sell their bitcoin when an unexpected bill comes.

The best approach is to build both gradually from your discretionary income, even if the amount is small. You don't need to wait until your emergency fund is complete before buying Bitcoin, but you shouldn't ignore it either. The goal should be to build a financial position that won't force you to sell your bitcoin stash whenever life happens.

You seem to be complicating most of your ideas, and you’re having a problem about starting to invest in bitcoin and waiting to first build an emergency funds first before starting. The foundation to start investing in bitcoin lies on the investors ability to figure out a discretionary income and not really a source of income. Having a source of income is not a guarantee that someone will have a discretionary income to start investing, so to start you need a discretionary income. If you have a discretionary income that you won’t be needing anytime soon then you can start investing in bitcoin. Even  if your emergency funds aren’t available it shouldn’t be a barrier for not getting started.

I don't see anything wrong if guys chose to build their emergency funds to a certain level before getting started, you know a beginner who is new to Bitcoin might be a bit scared about the whole thing that is going on for that they will be trying to take all the safety precautions before getting started. So since Their mind is not strong to get started without emergency funds they have every right to build it to a certain level before getting started, the time wasted while building their emergency funds is not a problem for them. And I also suggest that a beginner should try and build their emergency funds to some certain level before getting started because I have heard stories about someone who started investing and the following week emergency issue came up, he literally have zero dollar in his emergency funds at the time so he had no option than to sell his investment so if he had build up his emergency funds to some certain level he wouldn't have tempered his investment. so this is the more reason why I'm not against those that choose to build emergency funds before getting started.

And you then think that it is the emergency funds that will lessen the individual's fear...If that is what you really think then I would have to tell you to stop deceiving yourself... If their conviction is still low or they still seem to have cold feet, which is normal amongst beginners, then the brand new investor can very well begin accumulating with little amounts which he or she know that they could afford to loose..And while investing in such a manner, the investor can also prioritize learning more about Bitcoin as well as building their backup find as they go..In the long run, as their knowledge increases their convictions could as well follow suite....And when that happens, the investor could gradually increase their investment amount in line with the progression of their convictions..

No, it's wrong buddy, or don't you know that by trying to first set up your emergency funds before starting your bitcoin accumulation, you are practically delaying yourself and wasting your own time because to set up a good chunk of emergency funds that can sustain you for a period of three months, it's going to take a lot of time to accomplish, so it's a wrong idea.

It is not a bad idea if a Bitcoin investor start his accumulation right away, and without wasting time, starts setting aside his emergency funds alongside his investment because by doing it like that, his investment will be secured from any emergency situation that may come up at the beginning stage of his investment.

You are making a retarded statement @Showlove01.

Do you even know which thread you are in?  I don't say, "Do whatever.  Anything will work" since that is not true.

What is the starting point?  How much income does a guy have?  How much back up funds does he have?  If he has discretionary income, then he should be able to start investing in bitcoin from whereever he is at, but he still has to figure out some balance in regards to how much of his discretionary income he is using for investment, saving and discretionary consumption.

An investor can go ahead to start buying bitcoin When the discretionary income is ready and along the line start building the emergency funds or he can decide to allocate a part of the discretionary income to use in buying bitcoin and the other part into building an emergency funds.

Are you just making shit up @Abbatty?

If you don't have enough income to build both your back up funds and your emergency funds at the same time, then you don't have enough money (discretionary funds) to buy bitcoin.

We are talking about investing in this thread.  Not gambling.  So stop making shit up that is not true.

Sometimes we don’t have much left after solving our basic needs from our income, so with the little left we can begin investing, if we want to wait to get emergency funds first it will only lead to delay in investing in bitcoin, which is absolutely wrong.

It is also wrong to invest in bitcoin if you have no back up funds.  So, you better increase your discretionary funds if you want to invest in bitcoin, since the timeline for investing in bitcoin is 4-10 years or longer, and if you do not have money that is in excess of the money that you need for your basic needs to put into both bitcoin and back up funds, then you do not have enough money.

And yeah, you can start to invest in bitcoin with just $10 per week, and if you are investing that amount then probably you need to be stocking away $10 for your back up funds and $10 for discretionary consumption.  If you don't have that much income, then it becomes harder to work with smaller amounts, but you can still figure out if you have enough to invest less frequently, even though I tend to recommend trying to invest in bitcoin weekly, but it might not make sense when guys might not be able to muster up at least $10 per week in their discretionary funds for investing, savings and discretionary consumption.

[edited out]
One of the major problems some investors face is mistaken the reserve funds as not part of the back up funds, and so they give wrong proclamations and wrong use of both words.

I get the sense that newbie bitcoiners are not want to get trapped into having little to no flexibility in terms of how they might spend their back up funds, so they will end up tending to build up both emergency funds and reserve funds simultaneously and try to figure out some balances in regards to how to spend from each and under what circumstances, and if they end up screwing up in one direction or another, then they might need to make tweaks to fix their mistakes as long as the mistakes are not too big.

So, then the worst case scenarios are when the guys are starting with hardly any back up funds and not having very much discretionary funds to work with, so surely many of us already recognize that there is power when the discretionary funds can be increased but then at the same time, there can be quite a bit of power in already having enough discretionary funds to work with and having enough extra money that some can be invested, some can be saved and some can be used for discretionary consumption.

Frequently, I like to suggest that 10% of your income is a good amount of value that can be invested and saved, since so many normal people struggle to be able to consistently invest/save 10% of their income, yet there are circumstances where guys are not able to even do 10% and there are other circumstances where guys are able to accomplish more than 10% and even up to something like 25% of their income into investing and savings.

So, yeah, there can be ways that we can attempt to measure ourselves and to try to be able to figure out if any progress that we might be making is reasonable as compared with what other people are able to do, and even though we might merely be competing with ourselves and competing with how we can make better systems and practices for ourselves, sometimes it can also be helpful to compare ourselves to what other normal people are able to do and/or willing to do.  Part of the distinction of guys who had historically been able to build up reasonably good wealth with bitcoin had been their sticking with building their bitcoin and strengthening their management of their cashflows.. and so if bitcoiners had engaged in good practices for years and years, then they had been likely to put themselves into a better place as compared with guys who had not achieved such abilities to stay focused on bitcoin.

[edited out]

Of course, he could figure things out gradually on how best to balance his buying and building a substantial safety net while investing.

Of course, guys can start from a variety of places in terms of if they had already had strong cashflow management practices and perhaps reasonably decent back up funds (and maybe even some other assets) from the start as compared with guys who learn about bitcoin and they are starting from nothing, except for their happening to have an income that is large enough to produce discretionary funds every week.

The guy who already has assets and decent cashflow management practices can build upon from where he is at and incorporate bitcoin into what he is already doing, while the guy who has little to no experience and/or practice in investing and perhaps his cashflow management practices are relatively week, then it can take the less experienced guy quite a bit longer to build up his skills and experiences, since sometimes there are aspects of investing into bitcoin and/or cashflow management that do not make as much sense unless going through the experiences, which is also part of the reason that several of us, including yours truly tend to recommend getting started as soon as possible since getting started will help to build foundational skills and experiences, especially for guys who don't already have very much of that.....

and even guys who have experiences in other assets and cashflow management will likely run into some new kinds of learnings that become necessary with bitcoin - which was the case with me.  Before I started with bitcoin in late 2013, I had more than 20 years experiences of investing and cashflow management .. yet bitcoin truly brought some new angles and perspectives and surely some of my own ideas and practices had to be adapted to account for the fitting of bitcoin into the mix.

Of course, there can be a lot of benefits in having real world friends who are able to both introduce a potentially confusing topic like bitcoin and to not cause too many complications in terms of possible bad habits that might relate to the convolution of shitcoins, trading and/or even poor cashflow management practices.  So, yes it is good if you found someone who could introduce you to bitcoin in a good way.. yet we still individually have to apply what we had been introduced to.

I am a job holder. My investment portion isn't huge amount  but I feel it is better to make it happen regularly and in my own capacity than to begin investing with a ton of cash. Since I am not primarily responsible for the financial responsibility of my family I can invest a part of my income for my future.

Of course, any of us is lucky to be able to have discretionary funds so that we can invest, yet investment still takes a long time to build and then to hold onto it and also potentially have more options based on the investment turning out good.  We don't know, for sure, about the outcomes of our investing into bitcoin, even if we might end up doing all of the correct things.

Bitcoin does continue to seem like a small niche, and there are a lot of families in which there might ONLY be one or two bitcoiners, and of course, a lot of families with no bitcoiners, so we still seem to be early in our investing in bitcoin.

I am still in the learning curve of Bitcoin. Investing in Bitcoin is not enough i need to understand the technology risks and actions of the market and its longterm prospects. I think learning never stops and it's really vital to learn and find out what you've done wrong and how to fix it.

Buying bitcoin does create an incentive to want to learn more, yet we each have our own talents and our own areas of interest, so how much we choose to learn and which parts of bitcoin we choose to focus on will likely vary from person to person, even though it does seem that getting involved in bitcoin does tend to inspire wanting to learn more and perhaps even wanting to invest more, so it might not always be easy to figure out the extent to which whatever approach we take is fitting good with ourselves and maybe even how much to share with others.  A forum like this does give us chances to share our ideas about bitcoin and bitcoin related topics such as cashflow management.

Great.  Welcome to participating in the thread, and there is surely nothing wrong with attempting to share your experiences, your thoughts and even your theories related to bitcoin and cashflow management, even though sometimes guys might not agree, and surely some of us might even get frustrated or mad at the ideas or the presentation of ideas of other members.

I don't see anything wrong if guys chose to build their emergency funds to a certain level before getting started,

Don't be ridiculous @Homemade-IQ

A guy's emergency funds are only going to protect a guy until they run out.

Accordingly guys have to figure out how much to put into emergency funds and/or back up funds, and for sure their investment and their emergency funds are going to be more vulnerable in the beginning stages of building up their back up funds and their investing in bitcoin.

There is no real way to rush the process, except maybe if guys can figure out ways to increase their discretionary funds, then they have more money to work with, yet guys have to work from where they are at, and yeah, if they have abilities to increase their discretionary funds, it will likely help them in both investing and building up back up funds.

I agree with you that new Bitcoin investor do not need to have an emergency funds in place before starting his accumulation, but I disagree with your that he must first accumulate a good stash of it first before putting it down, because left for me, I think that once he made his first purchase, that's the moment he start putting it down alongside his accumulation, because emergency situation can come at anytime, so accumulating and making provisions for your emergency funds simultaneously is what we are adviced to do, not by first having a good stash of it first before putting down emergency funds as you are proclaiming.
But why do many still misunderstand the ideas we are discussing here? Is it because they lack knowledge about investing or investing, or something else besides what I mentioned?
Doing it together is a very good thing, because we never know what our future situation will be. Therefore, in my opinion, it's better to accumulate an emergency fund when we have already started accumulating. That's where it's necessary to do so, so we have a strong reserve when unexpected situations arise.
What is the problem if a new investor starts investing with his discretionary income and the next month invests half of that discretionary income in Bitcoin and uses the rest as an emergency fund/reserve fund or enjoying life occasionally by this fund ? It is not mandatory to accumulate a large amount of emergency fund before starting to buy. Rather, one can build up an emergency fund by buying micro amounts of Bitcoin according to one’s ability.

However, it is not wise to invest all the extra money, except for emergency savings in Bitcoin because if someone needs money in an unexpected situation, he/she may be forced to sell Bitcoin during unexpected moment or a market crash.
