I think it's sad that Brazil, a football powerhouse, doesn't have any topic dedicated to talking about football here.
It even seems that Brazilians don't like to talk about it

That's because I'm opening this topic, to try to get some engagement and comments about the main Brazilian football championship at this year.

In the main category of this year, we have the following teams competing for the championship:

• Avaí (Up from series B)
• Botafogo (Up from series B)

Who do you bet on?
I obviously go to "all the way" with the team of my heart... the Internacional.

I'm Portuguese, so I don't have any favorite Brazilian club. But in recent years we have heard a lot about Brazilian football, because of the Portuguese coaches who have been very successful in Brazil.
There's Abel Ferreira at Santos, and a fantastic story about Jorge Jesus at Flamengo. 

I obviously go to "all the way" with the team of my heart... the Internacional.

Jorge Jesus is now without a club, don't you want to go get him?



But, one thing I would like to know is how this specific championship works. There are so many leagues that all clubs play, how do you get to Brasileirão?


However, as this is for betting, are there many sites to bet on the Brazilian championship?

Who do you bet on?

For sure I have idols of world football players who come from Brazil such as: Roberto, Neymar, Ronald, Alex and many others, although they play in different clubs, but they have brought the name of brazil to international.

For that if you ask about betting, maybe I should follow them first for the Brazilian team A series, conclusion: for now there are no bets that can be bet, maybe in the future it could be.

It has been a while since I haven't followed like I used to the Brazilian Serie A and what I find surprising is that I don't see Cruzeiro in the Serie A for this year.When I used to follow this league I remember winning a lot of money by betting on them Cruzeiro anytime they were playing at home and I did not care who their opponent was because 90% of the time they used to win.

My second favorite team is Internacional as I have also won several times by betting on them even with big odds like 4.65 when they were playing away.Overall the Brazilian Serie A is a beautiful league with a lot of spectacular goals,really enjoyable to watch on TV but I can't as I am in Europe and we have a big time difference.

That's true! It is difficult to have to watch games at two or three in the morning, especially if the next day is workday and you have to get up early.

In Portugal, more talk about the Brazilian championship has only started and some games have passed, because in recent years some Portuguese coaches have been there with great success.

At each championship, the top 4 of each series go up, the bottom 4 go down.
In series A, which we are discussing here, the first 4 qualify for "Libertadores" (Conmebol).
To enter series D, there is a classification among the best in each state in the country, but I don't know the rules, as I barely follow series B, below that I don't even look.

However, as this is for betting, are there many sites to bet on the Brazilian championship?

It's true Ronaldo is buying Cruzeiro, but the deal hasn't been sealed yet and I have read rumours he could give up the purchase due to the club being in deep debt and criticisms from the crowd after the departure of the main goalkeeper. To buy Cruzeiro became a risky business and close people to Ronaldo said he can just leave to Spain and forget this idea. We will see in the next days...

I've always enjoyed Vasco da Gama and Gremio. It was a pity they dropped out of division.
Maybe because they were teams I played a lot at the time I played "CM".

I really hope he buys his boyhood club.If there is disagreement over the main goalkeeper departure I am sure this can be solved by bringing in another goalkeeper at least the same level if not better than the one who departed.For the debt though I am afraid this is a bigger issue and if Ronaldo has enough money to cover it he should buy the club,if not then truly it becomes a risky business for him so it is better to stay away.My personal opinion is that he should buy this club just for the emotional value it may have for him.

Brazilian Championship is very different from other national championships. There are quite a lot teams, and there is usually huge competition. The result is usually defined just in the last rounds, and we can't know at first which is the most likely to win. There are too many teams which are similar leveled.

For example, take a look at La Liga (Spanish national league), Madrid and Barcelona are the most likely to win again, just like always.

It is also important to notice that if the team in A series in the last 4 positions, it will go back to B series, so the best 4 in B series can go to A series.

Brazilian Championship is very different from other national championships. There are quite a lot teams, and there is usually huge competition. The result is usually defined just in the last rounds, and we can't know at first which is the most likely to win. There are too many teams which are similar leveled.

But I think that the gap between the big teams and the rest in the competition is gradually widening. There are more and more investors, which have helped some teams to improve their squads a lot and this helps them to win more easily.

But this is also a vision of those on the other side of the Atlantic.

The favorite clubs so far are Atletico-MG, Flamengo and Palmeiras. Even without winning titles recently, Flamengo has the confidence of the public. They expect a foreigner coach to arrive soon, what includes Jorge Jesus who can return from Portugal.

Atletico has been doing a great job winning the last Brasileirão championship 2021 (Flamengo finished in second and Palmeiras in third) and Brazil Cup 2021. The team is indeed really strong and well managed by Cuca.

And Palmeiras has won CONMEBOL Libertadores championship 2021, which is an international competition among south american clubs.

That's true. I remember hearing, when he was still a player, that he already had businesses in various parts of the world that allowed him to stop playing football and continue to have a good income.

He just has to assemble the right team for the management of the club, so that things go well. One thing is for sure, he understands a lot about football.

I agree with what @bitmover said.... many times, the championship is only defined in the last rounds and for sure that until middle of the championship it's practically impossible to predict who wll win, because a lot changes.

Correct, but wrong too... because money doesn't guarantee bonds.

Lets see  which are the richest clubs in Brazil now in BRL:

Flamengo: R$ 1.03 billion;
Atlético Mineiro: R$ 821 million;
Palmeiras: R$ 625 million;
Corinthians: R$ 507 million;
International: R$ 420 million;
Santos: R$ 296 million;
Grêmio: R$ 295 million.

Grêmio is in seventh position and still was relegated to the "B" series of the championship, how to explain that!?

No doubt! The same is true for European clubs. There are clubs that spend more than $100k on players, and after the end of the season they didn't win anything.

But, that's why many Brazilian clubs have hired European coaches and managers, who have helped them a lot in improving the conditions of clubs in all aspects.

Fine. This thread will never be redundant  If you evaluate this league in terms of betting, what can you say about it? I see that bookmakers offer bets on football matches in Brazil, but the choice of betting types is rather poor and, apparently, there is not very high liquidity.

This happens for several reasons. One is that normally the biggest bettors are in Europe and it focuses on European football.
Another reason is that Brazilian football is not very internationalized. Although several Brazilian players are popular in big Brazilian teams, most European fans do not follow the Brazilian league.

This should be a work to be carried out by the Brazilian football federation, to promote its competitions in Europe.
