The truth is that the CBF is an institution with a long history in Brazil, and we are also talking about one of the capitals where soccer is managed as a lifestyle, if Brazilians live soccer, they will not allow something that is already established by tradition of many years it will change, they should have many benefits and not do it that way, I think that is already more of an intrinsic problem of the Brazilian federation before the championships that become official and this takes time, the truth is not I see it viable.
I agree. But I also think that sometimes it's good to make some changes, taking into account the current reality of football. The fact that it has been a competition for many, many years should not be an excuse for not moving.

I believe that many of these movements, which want to create new competitions, aim not to create but to encourage changes to be made. And I think many fans agree that the format of some competitions no longer make sense, as they always favor the same ones. Hence, there are more and more movements calling for things to change.

I think that the people are going to be divided into two parts about this matter. Because we will have certain people supporting the movements and some people not supporting this, you know basically how it is. Actually, I think this might seem like a very poor decision but this is going to be really helpful for the future of football in Brazil in the long run. I know it's a tradition for Brazilians but sometimes people have to move on. Not all changes are bad.

The Brazilian championship format has different characteristics from the common formats in Europe. It doesn't mean that the ones in Europe are better. But we know that Europe is where the money in football is.

If Brazil, and not only, wants to promote its football more in the old continent, it has to make some changes to the format of its competitions, to become more appealing to the fans of Europe. On the contrary, it will only attract when a European coach is in Brazil, or because of an excellent player who stands out, before arriving at a European club.

I would say it's primarily for the money... there's no way to compare the salary of a player on a European team with a Brazilian one, that's undeniable.
And the second criterion is visibility... with rare exceptions, most likely a European player who comes to Brazil will be able to stand out to the world, no matter how good he plays.

Of course, money cannot be compared or competed with.
The point is that in Europe there is an idea, perhaps wrong, that the format of the Brazilian competition is complicated and a little strange. It probably isn't, but this idea creates barriers, as it were, to generate greater interest. Hence I say that the Brazilian federation should try to verify the best way to promote its football in Europe.

Currently we don't see as many players as successful in Europe as before. Perhaps for this very reason, there has gradually been less interest in observing the Brazilian championship.

Yes, I agree that changes need to be made but what I wanted to say is that there might be a lot of people who don't agree with that and also think that changes might cause problems. People who are generally afraid of changes in my opinion.

But at this moment people agree or disagree doesn't matter because changes are needed. Otherwise, it's going to lose more interest and money. And it's really important that everyone realizes that. And I think a stand out there is going to attract more people there a coach.

I actually don't think that the format in the Brazilian competition is not that strange. Probably it was less appealing and someone thought this was the reason and everyone is talking about it now.

And also the reason that players are not being as successful as in Europe can obviously be a big reason for this. But I think bringing some changes could be really good at this moment. Maybe some good about the talent Hunt could also be useful.

I personally believe that there is no nation in the world with so many famous and fantastic footballers. Ronaldo and Pele should be called the best footballer of all time. All of the footballers have great technical and wonderful decisions making skills.
I am going to bet on Palmeiras – May the best one wins.

Brasileirão 2022 will be marked by a high number of foreigner coaches hired by the brazilian national clubs.

Recent news say Corinthians is the 7th club to hire a foreigner coach for the 2022's competition. It's going to be Vitor Pereira, a portuguese, just like Flamengo and Palmeiras' coaches, Paulo Souza and Abel Ferreira, both also portugueses. These are the only 3 european coaches so far.

Another clubs found their ones in neighbor countries from South America. These are the cases of Atlético-MG, Fortaleza, Internacional and Coritiba.

I can tell you that those three coaches are good.
They did interesting work in Portugal, during their first years of career, and then went abroad, adding successes. So it is to be expected that they will also do a good job in these clubs. It will be interesting to follow your work.

You're right, I also see it that way or as a springboard for vision for Brazilian players for Europe, 'because in Europe only the most outstanding players from Brazil play, but those who are very good but not famous?? It is for them that the opportunity may come, and since Brazil has such a strong infrastructure in terms of football, it is not surprising that it is more attractive to the world, and if a division of the league occurs, it could bring this advantage to the players.

I think it's convenient in this topic to also talk about the Brazilian women's championship, which started last Friday, March 4th.

This championship gained a lot of attention in the media this year, which is good to reduce preconception in this sport.
In the last edition, Corinthians was the champion team, and Palmeiras was the second, who will win the title this year?

I think it's convenient in this topic to also talk about the Brazilian women's championship, which started last Friday, March 4th.

Has women's football been on the rise? Are there already international women's competitions?

Here in Europe, it has had a big boost in the last 4-5 years. With more and more clubs having women's teams, and starting to get more attention and sponsorship.

This championship gained a lot of attention in the media this year, which is good to reduce preconception in this sport.
In the last edition, Corinthians was the champion team, and Palmeiras was the second, who will win the title this year?

This evaluation will be more difficult, for those who are outside Brazil. Based on your analysis, what would you say?

The Brazilian championship format has different characteristics from the common formats in Europe. It doesn't mean that the ones in Europe are better. But we know that Europe is where the money in football is.

If Brazil, and not only, wants to promote its football more in the old continent, it has to make some changes to the format of its competitions, to become more appealing to the fans of Europe. On the contrary, it will only attract when a European coach is in Brazil, or because of an excellent player who stands out, before arriving at a European club.

Is the problem really the rules and format of the competitions?

I would say it's primarily for the money... there's no way to compare the salary of a player on a European team with a Brazilian one, that's undeniable.
And the second criterion is visibility... with rare exceptions, most likely a European player who comes to Brazil will be able to stand out to the world, no matter how good he plays.

I don't see any problem if Brazil's format is too different from Europe's. It's still better to create a unique format although we couldn't set aside the comparison most of the time. European players are outstanding but Brazilian players are also dedicated and promising and lots of people are actually looking forward to more series from them.

Has women's football been on the rise? Are there already international women's competitions?

Here in Europe, it has had a big boost in the last 4-5 years. With more and more clubs having women's teams, and starting to get more attention and sponsorship.

Yes, women's football in Brazil is experiencing very expressive growth, both technically and financially, and it is receiving sponsorship from large companies.
And this was only possible because in 2019 the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) determined that all teams that compete in the main series of the Men's Brasileirão should also have women's teams in the adult and youth training categories.

I don't see any problem if Brazil's format is too different from Europe's. It's still better to create a unique format although we couldn't set aside the comparison most of the time. European players are outstanding but Brazilian players are also dedicated and promising and lots of people are actually looking forward to more series from them.

I even agree with you a little bit.
The "scoring points" system in the Brazilian championship allows good teams not to be eliminated just because they did poorly in a single game.
However, he takes away the brilliance at the end of the championship, because most of the times it is already known who will be the champion with up to 10 games left for the end of the championship.

In the last edition, Corinthians was the champion team, and Palmeiras was the second, who will win the title this year?
Palmeiras is playing very well (although this competition hasn't started yet), has a solid team and a skilled support body behind the players.

Yesterday, Palmeiras beat another national team, Guarani, by 2 x 0 on its state championship.

In my opinion they are one probable winner for this year's title. It's hard to see brazilian teams showing consistent performance along the time, but surprisingly Palmeiras is being able to do this.

I was checking and this game is part of the Campeonato Paulista.
I noticed that the championship is divided into 4 groups, but the teams have already played 10 games. Do the clubs in the group play against each other several times, or do they all play against everyone else, despite being in different groups?  Huh

They play one game against each team of another groups (12 matches total for each team). The best 2 teams of each group go to the quarter finals.

Then, the two classified teams of a same group play against each other on the quarter finals. That means: first position club on group A play versus second position club of group A, first position team of group B goes against second position team of group B and so on...

From the semifinals on, the team with the best score takes the one with the worse, and the second takes the third, considering the points scored on every previous phases of the championship by each team.

And finally, the finals are decided in two games, played once at home of each team classified for this phase.

As you can see, the main teams (the most popular and considered the strongest ones) from the championship are never on the same group. That is Corinthians on Group A, São Paulo on group B, Palmeiras on group C and Santos on group D. I'm not sure if it was organized this way on purpose, but I believe it's likely...

~

Thank you for the explanation.

I think the competition is a little complicated, at least for what I'm inhabited here in Europe. And I thought the US league system was complicated.  Roll Eyes

But I got the idea. Thanks.

You are right, it's all planned.

The 4 strongest teams are divided in the groups, I don't know if the translation is correct, but they are "seeds", in Brazil we call "cabeça de chave" and it's the same as World Cup, the strongest teams are separeted to not join in the same group and only 1 get to the next rounds.
It's interest to all strongest teams to pass to next rounds, more people will watch and more money to everyone.

But there's something that always happen, for example, look at D group:

Source: https://ge.globo.com/sp/futebol/campeonato-paulista/

Santos is supposed to be at first place, but Bragantino and Santo Andre are in the first two positions
Bragantino is controlled and managed by Red Bull, so the team is gaining attention and they can play at the same level with almost any team in Brazil, only excludind Palmeiras and Flamengo at the moment

But there's something that always happen, for example, look at D group:

But Santos has one less game, and if they win, they'll be second. Being in second already has the possibility of moving forward in the competition. They should still manage to reach second place.

This competition model always has surprises. Look what happened in qualifying for the World Cup in Europe, with Portugal and Italy having to play in the play-offs.
