Call me boomer and old but I'm the same. I hated VAR, I hate this league phase, I will miss how you could meet the favourites as the shittiest team left in the KO stage and still smack teams good. This seeded league phase nonsense will ensure the "best" stay as long as possible. I hope to be proven wrong, and hope to forget my annoyance soon enough.

No firm news on sponsorship, unfortunately. But with this draw, I'm now waiting for proper odds to show up for the first set of games, to be able to present a mockup of the Pot B competition for sponsors -- fingers crossed they agree, like I do, that we've got something special cooking for the biggest fking club competition on the planet!

Worst case scenario, I'll throw in something symbolic to put some sugar on the fund. Throwback to many, many seasons ago when sponsored pools weren't a thing yet

I dont know what you think but seems intersting for me.

I don't really fancy this new format, but I won't criticize it for now, until the league fully starts. There are too many games to be played, Players are going to be very exhausted. Sometimes people making the rules should consider the players wellness too. Although when something new is been introduced, it will take a while for people to fully understand it and get use to it. Well I think it's still the same big clubs that usually makes it to the round of 16 that will still qualify for the next round. Even if there will be some shocking outcomes, it won't be that much.

Not that I am not against change but this right ain’t any realistic change at all, this is purely for business and the incentives it will bring and probably to just buyout the super league idea nothing about making it more competitive or giving lower leagues chances. Now the joy of playing a team away In group stage and waiting for their return league is not here anymore. The extra games are just for commercials and nothing, the lower clubs will still be eliminated easily with this new format.

Nice to see Dinamo qualifying, 5-0 looks like a trashing but Qarabag wasn't actually that bad and should have stayed in the duel for longer.

I dont fully understand this new Champions League format but there is going to be plenty of good opportunities to show the real depth of this Dinamo team.
This means a lot more complications and I dont know how buwa will cope with all this CL changes.

For example because of VAR, I can't celebrate the goal until the referee points at the centre after the goal is scored. I haven't also liked this new format at all. However when we think that the competition isn't too high for big teams in league phase, things might get really heated for them.

Change can be a good thing to shake things up, but I dont like this new CL format at all, it brings much more complications and unknowns.
They are trying to force more small clubs and give them more chances with this expanding format, but this wont increase quality in Champions League.
Not only in Champions League, this new format is also in Europa League and other competitions.
If I can make one prediction, dont be surprised if you see results like 10:0 or more in some matches

Most of us have gotten too familiar with the old format that was last used last campaign so I understand why many fans of the competition aren't happy with the change in format. That being said, experience have thought me that whenever changes are made in football, it's always difficult to accept since it's not familiar with fans but at the end, you'll see many loving the new changed rules than they loved the former.

The whole thing is just complicated and annoying, I wonder why they can't just continue with the old style they have been using for years and any time there seems to be a change in anything concerning football it becomes annoying, VAR came and thing went different and now this format, I don't wish for it to continue and they should end it this year.
Now we have to watch the champions league like we're watching the World Cup or The Euros or any national team competition where we have so many countries. This isn't how is suppose to be and I don't think they are doing this to compensate those clubs who are thinking to start the Super league or something, the organizes are only stressing the players.

Every decision and mixed format will certainly cause pros and cons, because there are certainly advantages and disadvantages to each. But at least, VAR can make it fairer (if the referee is really fair in analyzing it).

And for the new UCL format, it may still be a little confusing for us, especially with the larger number of clubs, the group phase and so on which are somewhat different. but what can we do, that's the final decision that we must now enjoy.

There are 36 clubs, there are a total of 144 matches that will be held in 8 matchdays, so in 1 day there will be 18 matches for this phase.

You critically analyzed the new format and you say its for the fans and that strong teams play against each other?

You know Pot 1 teams only meet 2 other 'strong teams' and the rest are all weaker. And, The Top 8 after reach playoff, the Top 2 cannot meet until final, Top 3 and 4 cannot meet until semifinal etc.

So this format means, no matter what, the strongest will meet the weakest possible every step until the end. What shit is this?

Quantity usually means less quality, everyone in football knows this. Fans want to see quality matches, not just matches for the sake of matches.

Yup, I don't like the introduction of top seed vs bottom seed in KO stage. Of course random events and bad results and unlikely performances ultimately shape the path to the final, but if you only meet top seeds progressively, then you ensure maximum probability that only the top seeds are in the final. Which typically doesn't translate to the best-performing teams getting there. More games means more rubber ties, and robbing some fans of the opportunity to visit and host opponents. I always thought home/away legs were special, now you've got 8 matches with no chance for revenge until the KO rounds.

What's the point of these games if they don't actually decide anything? The very first serious games will start during the playoffs for those who finished below 8th. At best, we'll see a couple of top clubs that don't make it to the playoffs, but that's not a super event since, for example, Liverpool couldn't make it to the Champions League in the old format not long ago.
What's the point of the name Champions League now if the tournament is attended 5th or 6th national league clubs that have probably never even smelled a bronze (lol) medal. It doesn't look like a Champions Tournament.

Sounds very very good! I've already registered myself and my kids for tickets (they officially sell them for home fans with registrations) so let's see if I get lucky that way. Only problem is these are going to be home tickets. I don't mind, of course, but nothing beats being with the away contingent!

I agree though, the best route for those tickets are probably with fans who won't travel -- they cost too much for me the last few seasons but I'm counting on the final game to be less "interesting" for many fans in late January.

First matches are starting in just two weeks so we better get ready for this new format.
Manchester City and Real Madrid have the best odds to reach the final, but odds are much higher for league winner.
Slovan Bratislava are the biggest underdogs and I think they are first time in Champions League.
