If you're trying to get merit by writing posts a specific way, you're probably going to end up spamming.

You're best trying to proactively participate in discussion here and remain active for a short while so people start to recognise you and your posts more. If you can productively reply to a thread, just do that and the merits will follow.

You can spend time researching and offering your own incites on things too but that's not entirely necessary (also make sure you're familiar with rules like not plagiarising).

In my experience, genuine attempts to either acquire or dispense knowledge, usually attract merit (depending on how interesting it is and how much effort was made). Obviously, there are many other ways (like humor in appropriate threads, finding and reporting plagiarism, etc.), but I think those first two are the most reliable.

Simply sharing your opinion about various subjects will rarely result in merit. Redundant posting (answering a question that's already been answered, without adding anything new) will also usually not result in merit.

Posts that contain good information, knowledge, contribution are more likely receive merit. In short, if you have such constructive posts, you will receive merit sooner or later.

On the top of my head, it's the posts that are either genuinely helpful, or the posts that gives you the impression that the poster really knows what he/she's talking about.

And I don't mean the posts that are made unnecessarily long just to give the impression that you're putting effort. Trust me, knowledge and interest in Bitcoin/crypto is something that you can't easily fake despite Bitcointalk just being a text forum.

Apart from what you have been told, there are times when you can earn merit simply by asking a relevant question, or by making a funny comment. But be careful with overdoing this because what you can get is the opposite result: merit sources and higher ranked merit will put you on their ignore list.

I see you have already earned 3 merits. Just use the forum to learn and exchange information and little by little you will become a better poster and get more merits.

I also want to ask you not to impersonate a knowledgeable person if you are far from the topic. Do not copy posts from other Internet sources, passing them off as your own. Believe copying is always noticeable. The post history of a person who doesn't understand cryptocurrencies, and suddenly creates a post that looks very smart, will always look suspicious if one day you decide to copy something.
Therefore, be more curious when asking and learning than a teacher who does not understand what he is writing about at all.

OP, I would extend mk4's advice and suggest you check out the posts of members who've earned a lot of merits--in particular, lower-ranked ones, because if you absolutely have to have a model to go by, those are the members to use.

I've been looking at a lot of post histories lately, and it drives me nuts when I see page after page of posts that are essentially the same length and have the same (minimal) amount of thought and effort put into them.  Personally, I wouldn't advise you to chase after merits but there are two things:

1.  Your posts have to stand out against the rest of the posts in whatever thread they're in.

2.  If you post in sections where the shitposters are, it's not likely you're going to earn merits.

As a caveat to #2, if you start posting in sections like Meta where a lot of merits are handed out but don't contribute much of anything, you'll be marked as a merit fisherman and may end up on people's ignore list.  So when you post, make it count.

• Excessive advertising for dangerous (centralized / scammy) Shitcoins, such like Ripple, Tron or Libra (Facebook)

Yeah have seen that you barely make long responses and it's completely fine because when you post it's upto the mark and relevant which we term good post and length is not a determent factor for merits which we can clearly see from your post and 3k merit is not a joke.

Those who have technical knowledge and post in those boards definitely earn more merits according to their contributions to the forum and guiding members with lot of technical stuff.

suggest you check out the posts of members who've earned a lot of merits--in particular, lower-ranked ones, because if you absolutely have to have a model to go by, those are the members to use.

There have been many members such as @n0nce who has shown if you have knowledge and post without merit phising attempts you will soon see the results.He has managed to gain so many merits and still a senior rank member but he is very good at technical bitcoin part but you can always see some low rank members who are earning good amount of merits and check how they are posting on the forum.

That's the main part as merit sources don't visit these boards also and it's very rare you will find some good posts while all other are spamming up the whole board with shitcoins promotion and writing useless stuff without any knowledge.So it's better to gain knowledge first and post in other boards and your post if are worthy of merits you will gain them.

Good points discussed in the thread and clearly states how you can earn merits and what types of post can help you gain them like if you are creating a thread or replying to some posts.Also mention the board in which they should start a giveaway thread as newbies could land in problem if they open up such giveaway threads in some other boards.

They can read the points and then work on them but knowledge is must which will help you in creating useful threads, replying to the @OP in relevant manner and help others.

Everyone is different, you should just post the way that's natural to you. You need knowledge to make good posts, but you aren't going to get that playing around with bounties.

Making a detailed and helpful guide can earn you merits. But correcting mistakes and offering better ways to do things in existing guides can also earn you merits.
You can get merits for exposing scams or reporting spammers.

As you can see, you shouldn't learn the ways to get merits as if it is a subject taught in school. You should focus on what you do best and be as good at it as possible. Your qualities will then get discovered and rewarded sooner or later.

Earning merits depends on your self how you express, develop and make it quality on your post. And the only thing you should need to do is that careful for your words and do not spamm.  And also remember this, that plagiarism is more prohibited in this community, so don't try to copy useful thread by other and paste it here to earn more merits. Be your self, don't lie yourself and others then achievement will came at you.

Just be on topic on what board or discussion you're into, probably the best hack to get merits from other forum members. It's not that kind of posts that you're writing an article but just have always a valid argument on what you're posting is the key here.

I think an observation skill is a must too, check or maximize the Bitcointalk Merit Dashboard of @DdmrDdmr and filter the thread and responses that with most merits or whatever you want to research. By the way, I did the same when I'm still in the lower rank, recommended.

Become a scam buster (don't find an easy way to put everyone on 1xBit scammers LOL), tutorial writer, translate useful topic to local boards (if you have a dedicated local board), rephrase and post internet articles from high ranked websites with reference of the link (don't start with I write you the theme 😉 ) not last but the least go and find ALT accounts and bounty abusers. All these works to whore merit and on the way you will become a DT member. It's proven.

Point is, if you do not enjoy your time in discussions and can not provide information to help others in the community then there are no point to rank up. Your only sole motivation becomes to earn from the signature campaigns.

Below are the types of post that will attract merits;

• Post that shares new ideas to the forum
• Post that shares old idea in a new way
• Post that answer questions correctly(must be on the first page, preferably the first or second comment)
• Post that corrects mistakes or misconceptions
• Any activity that helps the forum or its members

The about list is not exhaustive,  the best way to grow is to discover what you are good at and improve on it.

First of all, this your post ought to be in the Beginners & Help section of the forum. You can do yourself a favor by moving it.

This question or should I call enquiry, is not really necessary, and this is because you said you people getting several merits, Common sense is to check the kind of posts those people make or creates, that earned them such an amount of Merits.
Go to their post history, check out their posting styles, check out where they most the most, check out the posts that earned them the most merits and find out what kind of post it is, and ones you've discovered all this, then try to follow the same pattern with your own original content.

I will say that you go first after acquisition of knowledge, then every other things follows, I've seen a member asking this type of related question and after several replies had been given on his thread he later went ahead to plagiarized in other to het merit and ended up being ban, it pains me alot because he left while ignoring to the advise from the the forum members, my first advise is for you to learn and secondly carefully read the forum's rules and regulations.

Yes, knowledge is the main thing to be able to engage in any discussion you want. The more knowledge you have the more you can engage in different discussions. It is a very simple thought.

OP, if you want to get merit then never hesitate to say something about whatever you want to say. Suffice yourself with knowledge, convey your opinion, no need to write too long because every reward you receive later does not depend on how long your writing is but how useful your writing is. Don't waste time writing something lengthy if you don't actually write something good and useful. So basically do it according to your taste but make sure it is useful.

This poster has won many merit for its contribution and availability in teaching bitcoin to children, but if one or two others did the same, I believe the value of the support would be very different. So find another idea, LOL.

It's not as simple as we think because actually each user has different abilities in terms of knowledge. So it's never the same between one and another. I'm not kidding, self-taught is difficult but the results are very satisfying if we really dare to act.

Yeah, that's true as much as we probably don't want to admit it. We as a community sort of boycott anyone that mentions merit, even though if we were in similar shoes, all exicted about being part of this community, we might've been asking the same questions. I understand that long term users are going to see these questions all the time, and get slightly annoyed, but that isn't really the fault of the new user asking that question.

Just think about when merit got first introduced, it was a new concept, and there was many questions asked by literally everyone on how it works, even though theymos explained it. Some additional clarification was needed, but generally the questions were pretty simple. Well, newbies are joining this forum, which is like almost completely different in terms of other forums out there, is running on some old software which doesn't always behave like other forums they might be used to, so even though the information is out there, they might not have the skills or know how on how to find it. Obviously, there's a bit of a middle ground that should be expected maybe, they should be doing as much research as possible.

However, if they have, and are still struggling I don't see the problem with asking for clarification on why. The responses they get might actually help them. What I find when I'm new to something is phrasing the question in a way that I understand, helps me understand better when someone answers it. So, getting tailor made answers on their posting habits, and why it isn't working, makes sense from a outside perspective.

Obviously, there's blatant cases, but I think we also have to remember this is a global forum, and therefore English isn't everyone's first language. Technically, it wasn't my first language, although it was the one we ended up using daily. Education in Wales, basically tries to teach you both at the same time, so in class you used to ask to go to the toilet in Welsh, instead of English. Probably why I still haven't grasped the English language perfectly in terms of grammar. Anyway, off on a bit of a tangent, but this is where users asking a way that they understand becomes even more beneficial since they might be hitting a language barrier.

I quite like what you've done OgNasty with some of your threads, and there's been others that have done similar things, even if they haven't always been executed perfectly, the general the impression I got was to give newbies a chance, which I believe is a good thing regardless of the execution. Obviously, not spoon feeding them, but giving them the opportunity to actually make a decent effort at gaining that merit, while getting the exposure they need. I know not everyone agrees with that perspective on this forum, but that's why I'm glad there's various different merit sources with different outlooks on the situation.

I do believe we've come a little bit too hostile at times to new users, and I do believe that's a problem at times. I absolutely understand why, especially when you've been here multiple years, and come across the same questions again, and again. However, I would like to see that attitude a little more relaxed, and not assume that everyone is here to abuse signature campaigns. I feel like at times the forum has become too associated with signature campaigns.

That's the exact way to be a nuisance! You chasing after merit is opposed to the actual learning which you ought to be doing on the forum. Havering a pattern to posting just to earn merit might lead you to posting a subject that, your not even interested in.
Not to mention, merits aren't only gotten  from creation of threads. Intelligent questions and responses to posts could fetch merits too. You could take it for a side goal but don't just dive right into it and forget the purpose for which the forum was created.

Hence, you might want to be you. Be the student in the community and learn. React as you see fit but ensure to keep the forum rules at all times. You'll be better of that way.

There may be many tips on how to get merits on posts and which types of posts get more attention and merit but if you follow a simple thing, I am sure you will get good merit.

Try to solve people's problems. If anyone asks a question and you have the answer to it, guide him and share your knowledge. The more valuable you are to the community, you will automatically get the merit and you will never have t get the count for it.

Secondly posting in spam mega threads won't get you any merit, even if you have posted something special as usually, those threads are for beating the dead horse.

A lot of things have changed since those early days. Bitcoin is no longer a few computer geeks and privacy advocates discussing a new technology of permissionless money on a public forum. It has grown and drawn in a huge crowd of different people. It used to be the focus of people who were genuinely interested in the change that Bitcoin could bring. There was no money to be earned yet. Not on the forum and not with bitcoin. But now when there are options to profit, that's become the main point and focus of attention. An obstacle in earning those coins are merits. Some overcome the hurdle, others don't.

Different types of posts are merited by different users. There is no criteria as to what can or will get a user merit. Informative posts, helping other users posts, knowlegde on a certain subject type of post, or sometimes just being funny gets merits. Basically just post like normal and if you get merited great, if not don't lose sleep.

OP, I checked your forum posts, and more than half of your posts are actually applications for different Bounty Campaigns.
Given that, I understand why you are interested in merits 
I assume you want to advance in the forum so that you can participate in higher paying btc signature campaigns.
To be able to do that, you will have to raise the quality of your posts on the forum, and be someone who helps other members with your knowledge and experience. So, first you will have to gain some knowledge and experience, and that takes time.

I will only say what kind of posts for me personally go into the category of posts that have no chance of being rewarded with merit :

• posts with disproportionately large images, especially those where the images do not contribute any meaningful addition to the quality of the post.
• posts that abuse the "quote" option in any way, whether it is the intention of the signature spammer to make the post look more meaningful or pyramidal quotes that are an expression of ignorance of editing.
• posts that are simple copy/paste with the intention of promoting the website - posts with 0% effort.
• posts of obvious trolls, mentally deranged people and promoters of various rubbish.

You will get many answers on how to get merits, all of the answers are all correct and unique in that every user is sharing their own personal tip on how they got merits or how someone they have observed did. For me, I'd say you focus less on merits and seek more ways to provide value here in the forum first, then the merits will surely follow. Be original and expressive in all your contributions, so other members can quickly recognize you as a quality member of forum.

Just post what ever you think is helpful in the forum, or any topic that you are curious about and wants to get more information about it and have a healthy conversation. There's no specific post that can get a merit because merit is given by the other user and that means it's from their own standard. Merit is not easy to achieve if you are just posting about bounty application, I've been it's really hard but the moment you analyze and study cryptocurrency, you can post normally and people will just appreciate your though, don't make any pressure as well.

I will quote the post of a person who had quite a reasonable surprise, probably an awakening, but unfortunately did not change anything in his life on the forum later. 
Indeed, some suddenly realize that they have been on the forum for four years and still do not understand anything, except to sit in the bounty section. 
I wonder if he wonders why he is like this? ... I won't say which one. 
It was an outburst of thought with the question "why." All the other posts again plunged into awards.

I'm not sure I agree with that 100%, though I get what both of you are saying.  The members who get ignored or have scorn heaped upon them are the ones who create threads about merits in which they're obviously hoping someone will give them merits.  The OPs of such threads are usually way too wordy in addition to being poorly written (usually), and from what I've observed the creators of threads like that usually don't participate in the discussion which ensues.

OP hasn't received any merits because his post was two lines, and he's asking a question that he could have found the answer to himself if he'd searched Meta.

OP, just write how your spirit moves. Don't attempt to court cuddling or the attention of anyone by pandering to what you think pleases them. I'm one of the few who believe that meriting a post is subjective and is largely dependent on who's sending it. Sometimes, it's not wholely about being constructive. Once your post appeals to whoever is reading it, whether it makes a point or not, and your reader has merit and they're willing to send it out; that's it! Your post will be blessed. However, in all you write; always try to connect to the discussion at hand. Let the rest be left for whoever will be reading it. It's not that complicated.
