What type of posts attract merit?

If you're trying to get merit by writing posts a specific way, you're probably going to end up spamming.

You're best trying to proactively participate in discussion here and remain active for a short while so people start to recognise you and your posts more. If you can productively reply to a thread, just do that and the merits will follow.

You can spend time researching and offering your own incites on things too but that's not entirely necessary (also make sure you're familiar with rules like not plagiarising).

In my experience, genuine attempts to either acquire or dispense knowledge, usually attract merit (depending on how interesting it is and how much effort was made). Obviously, there are many other ways (like humor in appropriate threads, finding and reporting plagiarism, etc.), but I think those first two are the most reliable.

Simply sharing your opinion about various subjects will rarely result in merit. Redundant posting (answering a question that's already been answered, without adding anything new) will also usually not result in merit.

If you read two following topics, you should know what types of post more likely receive merit.

• Merit & new rank requirements
• Welcome message

Posts that contain good information, knowledge, contribution are more likely receive merit. In short, if you have such constructive posts, you will receive merit sooner or later.

On the top of my head, it's the posts that are either genuinely helpful, or the posts that gives you the impression that the poster really knows what he/she's talking about.

And I don't mean the posts that are made unnecessarily long just to give the impression that you're putting effort. Trust me, knowledge and interest in Bitcoin/crypto is something that you can't easily fake despite Bitcointalk just being a text forum.

Apart from what you have been told, there are times when you can earn merit simply by asking a relevant question, or by making a funny comment. But be careful with overdoing this because what you can get is the opposite result: merit sources and higher ranked merit will put you on their ignore list.

I see you have already earned 3 merits. Just use the forum to learn and exchange information and little by little you will become a better poster and get more merits.

I don't intend to spam the forum, rather I want to engage in making quality posts with useful Informations so people can benefit just as I have benefited from the various Informations I got here.

I also want to ask you not to impersonate a knowledgeable person if you are far from the topic. Do not copy posts from other Internet sources, passing them off as your own. Believe copying is always noticeable. The post history of a person who doesn't understand cryptocurrencies, and suddenly creates a post that looks very smart, will always look suspicious if one day you decide to copy something.
Therefore, be more curious when asking and learning than a teacher who does not understand what he is writing about at all.

OP, I would extend mk4's advice and suggest you check out the posts of members who've earned a lot of merits--in particular, lower-ranked ones, because if you absolutely have to have a model to go by, those are the members to use.

I've been looking at a lot of post histories lately, and it drives me nuts when I see page after page of posts that are essentially the same length and have the same (minimal) amount of thought and effort put into them.  Personally, I wouldn't advise you to chase after merits but there are two things:

1.  Your posts have to stand out against the rest of the posts in whatever thread they're in.

2.  If you post in sections where the shitposters are, it's not likely you're going to earn merits.

As a caveat to #2, if you start posting in sections like Meta where a lot of merits are handed out but don't contribute much of anything, you'll be marked as a merit fisherman and may end up on people's ignore list.  So when you post, make it count.

• Presentation of guides / tutorials / insightful topics where many people could be interested in
• Innovative giveaways

Comments in existing topics:

• Is your comment helpful for OP?
• Contributing interesting content and providing insights instead of just rehashing what’s already been said / uninteresting fluff / guessing needlessly

For new and existing topics:

• Dividing your article / topic into meaningful sections, using sub-headlines, highlighting important parts. Nobody wants to read a text block of 10-15 consecutive lines
• Exposing and removing spam and scam ^[1]
• Using pictures / tables / lists, to visualize complex content ^[3]
• Good Memes.

Anti-Merit-Offenses (translated)

Anti-Merit-Offenses will reduce your chance for Merit massively:

• Unnecessary use of "Denglisch".
• Spreading fake news or badly researched content
• Spreading unserious stuff
• Spamming text blocks
• Avoiding nonsense gibberish like "Dachbereich" ("Roof area"), use appropriate wording instead.
• Excessive advertising for dangerous (centralized / scammy) Shitcoins, such like Ripple, Tron or Libra (Facebook)
• Flawed identification of sources (plagiarism) for your quoted content. Please use at least Bitcointalk’s "quote" function and add a link, where the text is copied from. If your article is (almost) entirely copied or translated, add a link and hint above (not below) your topic or it might be considered as „Merit fishing“ (because you’ve just copied / translated the content and it’s not yours.  ^[2]

• Begging for Merit for shitposts (according to Relnarien)

Yeah have seen that you barely make long responses and it's completely fine because when you post it's upto the mark and relevant which we term good post and length is not a determent factor for merits which we can clearly see from your post and 3k merit is not a joke.

Those who have technical knowledge and post in those boards definitely earn more merits according to their contributions to the forum and guiding members with lot of technical stuff.

suggest you check out the posts of members who've earned a lot of merits--in particular, lower-ranked ones, because if you absolutely have to have a model to go by, those are the members to use.

There have been many members such as @n0nce who has shown if you have knowledge and post without merit phising attempts you will soon see the results.He has managed to gain so many merits and still a senior rank member but he is very good at technical bitcoin part but you can always see some low rank members who are earning good amount of merits and check how they are posting on the forum.

That's the main part as merit sources don't visit these boards also and it's very rare you will find some good posts while all other are spamming up the whole board with shitcoins promotion and writing useless stuff without any knowledge.So it's better to gain knowledge first and post in other boards and your post if are worthy of merits you will gain them.

Good points discussed in the thread and clearly states how you can earn merits and what types of post can help you gain them like if you are creating a thread or replying to some posts.Also mention the board in which they should start a giveaway thread as newbies could land in problem if they open up such giveaway threads in some other boards.

They can read the points and then work on them but knowledge is must which will help you in creating useful threads, replying to the @OP in relevant manner and help others.

Everyone is different, you should just post the way that's natural to you. You need knowledge to make good posts, but you aren't going to get that playing around with bounties.

Making a detailed and helpful guide can earn you merits. But correcting mistakes and offering better ways to do things in existing guides can also earn you merits.
You can get merits for exposing scams or reporting spammers.

As you can see, you shouldn't learn the ways to get merits as if it is a subject taught in school. You should focus on what you do best and be as good at it as possible. Your qualities will then get discovered and rewarded sooner or later.

Earning merits depends on your self how you express, develop and make it quality on your post. And the only thing you should need to do is that careful for your words and do not spamm.  And also remember this, that plagiarism is more prohibited in this community, so don't try to copy useful thread by other and paste it here to earn more merits. Be your self, don't lie yourself and others then achievement will came at you.

Just be on topic on what board or discussion you're into, probably the best hack to get merits from other forum members. It's not that kind of posts that you're writing an article but just have always a valid argument on what you're posting is the key here.

I think an observation skill is a must too, check or maximize the Bitcointalk Merit Dashboard of @DdmrDdmr and filter the thread and responses that with most merits or whatever you want to research. By the way, I did the same when I'm still in the lower rank, recommended.

Become a scam buster (don't find an easy way to put everyone on 1xBit scammers LOL), tutorial writer, translate useful topic to local boards (if you have a dedicated local board), rephrase and post internet articles from high ranked websites with reference of the link (don't start with I write you the theme 😉 ) not last but the least go and find ALT accounts and bounty abusers. All these works to whore merit and on the way you will become a DT member. It's proven.

Point is, if you do not enjoy your time in discussions and can not provide information to help others in the community then there are no point to rank up. Your only sole motivation becomes to earn from the signature campaigns.

I might not be in the best position to answer your questions, but I don't wish to hoard the little experience I have to earn merits.
Below are the types of post that will attract merits;

• Post that shares new ideas to the forum
• Post that shares old idea in a new way
• Post that answer questions correctly(must be on the first page, preferably the first or second comment)
• Post that corrects mistakes or misconceptions
• Any activity that helps the forum or its members

The about list is not exhaustive,  the best way to grow is to discover what you are good at and improve on it.

First of all, this your post ought to be in the Beginners & Help section of the forum. You can do yourself a favor by moving it.

This question or should I call enquiry, is not really necessary, and this is because you said you people getting several merits, Common sense is to check the kind of posts those people make or creates, that earned them such an amount of Merits.
Go to their post history, check out their posting styles, check out where they most the most, check out the posts that earned them the most merits and find out what kind of post it is, and ones you've discovered all this, then try to follow the same pattern with your own original content.
