IMHO, pretty tough guess. Hopefully we'll see a game with a lot of goals right at the beginning of the tournament. That would be great for the fans and ofc for my predictions.

We are not a bad team, in fact English team has some experienced world class players who can win any match against any team. Few days ago we won World Cup T20 cricket, before then we won World cup ODI. Currently we are holding both trophy. In recent times World cup means England to take the trophy at home. Why would we have different this time 😉

Even though Christopher Nkunku has unfortunately been injured at short notice, the French squad is still nominally the strongest (IMHO). Just look at the strikers. It doesn't get much better than this:

Karim Benzema (Real Madrid), Kingsley Coman (Bayern München), Ousmane Dembele (FC Barcelona), Olivier Giroud (AC Mailand), Antoine Griezmann (Atletico Madrid) and ofc Kylian Mbappe (Paris St. Germain)

I think having this much of strikers might be to their own detriment, just saying though, because It could only remind me of Argentina some years ago, when they seemingly have the best strikers combination going into any tournament, but their midfield was quite a disaster and it ended up causing more harm to the team at large, I meant when Argentina were heading into those tournaments with forward lines consisting of Aguero, Higuain, Tevez, Messi, Di Maria, Diego Milito, Javier Pastore and Martin Palermo.

I guess we'll see how it all unfolds, it's just around the corner.

Difference is that France has world class defense and midfield behind those strikers as well. And they are not crazy enough to play with more than 3 of them in the first team. That being said France looked terrible in Nations League so I am not sure what to expect here. They will probably do good since they are usually really though to break down and that attack can score against anybody while motivation shouldn't be a problem in World Cup like it maybe was in those glorified friendlies.

Good to see the discussion thread. Any outright prediction of who will be the Champion? I understand everyone will favour their home team or at least favourite team but who deserves the trophy? I do not watch international football and it's hard for me to make good calls LOL

Never easy to predict. Brazil are probably the best team on paper and are certainly the bookies favourites. I'd really like to see Portugal v Argentina (or Messi v Ronaldo as the media will paint it) in the final and it can happen but both teams will have to get through some tough opposition like Brazil and Germany for Argentina. Portugal look to have the easiest route to the final assuming they finish top of their group but they will probably have to get past France who were obviously the previous winners.

Maybe, maybe England really is the underestimated top favorite then. We will see. Their group doesn't look to difficult at least: Iran, United States & Wales - not really the who's who of football. 

However, the match against Wales at least should be very interesting because of the rivalry.

They beat France in the Euro 2016 if I am not mistaken in the final even without Cristiano at that time as he was hit by a damage that could not continue the game after few minutes of the game in the first half.They can do it again in the encounter between the two teams here although things may be much different now as France has some more matured players like Mbappe which can be a great boost to the team.

I personally know for sure that Argentina will be in the final,I just don't know against who as I have not a clear idea but they are without a doubt the best selection of the World Cup if we count the players individually.

Not long to go now until I’m mostly stuck in front of the TV non stop for a whole month. Feels different to be having a World Cup mid season but just as good. So many things to bet on, different outcomes, tournament winner, top goalscorer, player of the tournament, parlays. Such an exciting time to be a football fan.

I already had a couple of bets actually -

1.) England to win the cricket T20 & football world cups (one ticked off already)
2.) Darwin Nunez to be top scorer at the WC

I’ll be betting on individual games obviously. I think I went with my heart with the bets listed above. More likely France or Brazil win, maybe Argentina.

I read somewhere in history, the former champion team can not qualify for the round 16 most of the time. If France caught on the history then with Denmark, Australia will be the other qualified team. Portugal may not need to face France but England. Both are tough opponent.

I am actually thinking that Belgium will be biggest disappointment of this World Cup. They will probably pass the group but I expect Croatia to top it and Belgium to scrape trough. Maybe I am biased since I am from Croatia but this Belgium squad does not look well.

Hazard will always play in front of Trossard for instance even though Trossard had a great season while Hazzard last good game is years in the history. Lukaku is injured and will probably miss group stages. Their defense was always weaker part of the team and now they are all 4 years older. Their only  in form star without injury problems is De Bruyne. While he is the best midfielder in the world, he is actually playing out of position on right wing often. Don't get me wrong he is world class there as well but to miss having him in the middle of the pitch is just plain stupid.

History never lies and I think you are talking about the worldcup curse which is believed that former champions don't actually go beyond the group stage and if you ask me.... France isn't in the easiest of groups despite bookies making it look easy for our X champs! This group will have Denmark dominating and will be getting the top slot no two ways about this.

I had a win on Belgium and they dissapointed me already in the first half. I was thinking they might turn it around in the second half but they conceded one more and i knew it was the end. I think they didnt care much about this friendly we seen that there was lot of subs . Still this match dosent matter it only matters what happens on the wc

yeah, I had my shot on England, wanted to put outright above 10, but in the end, have it on Netherlands, they have better team than 2010, and that was their WC, but Robben had to miss win in the final

Just made prediction for the first game and filled bracket challenge. Tried to do without emotions and use logic. So, I got Brazil winning it, though, it's not my preferred tam. But starting with 1/4 finals, most games will be without favorites and predicting it is pure luck.

I already see hype in England after beating Iran and USA - It's coming home. But I expect that their path will end in 1/4 final. When you look at teams like Brazil, France, Argentina or Spain, it looks that England simply don't have material to pass through these team.

That is absolutely correct,unfortunately for Asia and Central America they need quite some many years,maybe a few decades and they need to invest a lot during such time in soccer in order for them to be able to win such a prestigious event,the World Cup has been always shared between Europe or South America and judging by the way things are this world cup which starts today will most likely be shared between these two continents because the winner will be 100% one of them.

I think betting on any other team from any other continent to win the world cup will have an odd of a minimum of 1000 to 10000.

England and Netherland are the understimated big players in this tournament. England has all their players in the Premier League and their manager is doing a great job, at this point a coesive and well managed team is favorite against one only with stars and good players. Word is they are suffering with the heath, tough.

France can win without Benzema, as they did in 2018, but there are other big players that didn't even went to the cup list, they still have quality but it will be a challenge that they may or may not pass, but the situation tend to improve the longer they keep in the competition.
