Rivers United and Enugu Rangers are just interchanging position in the NPF. Rivers United now has 55 points while Enugu Rangers has 54 points. I can't say Enugu Rangers will win Barau because Barau too is another good team but Enugu Rangers will top the game. Tomorrow Match between Wikki Tourist vs Enyimba is an another tough to predict. The last time I watched Wikki Tourist vs Bayelsa United, Wikki Tourist drew Bayelsa United and if I am predicting this game. Enyimba might not win Wikki Tourist and probably they have draw. Wikki Tourist is on the relegation while Enyimba is closed to them.

Seeing both Enugu Rangers and Rivers united at first and second respectively on the table is quite hilarious, this isn't a big gap and within a short period of time the table might turn around, the Port Harcourt based team are very focused and if Rangers decide to slip then Rivers united may take advantage of their misfortune and go up.

I wish this could happen soon and I would love to see Rivers united FC crowned champions of the NPFL, but for that to happen they would have to show some character by being consistent all the way till the end of the league season.

Rivers United has been impressive this season even though they somehow get inconsistent and loose points often time. They have been so focused and despite loosing to Shooting stars away, Enugu rangers are still just one point away from the league. Enugu rangers will first need to win their next game from Barau, a game I see as a very tough game and ensuring a win is going to help keep them on the race. Since Rivers United lost their Champions league game by aggregate, it has been their biggest wish to win the Premier League and they will need to win the rest of their games should Enugu rangers do the same. Funny how Enyimba is still at the 15th place after 32 games. Football is a crazy thing, no body is too big to loose form and that's same situation Enyimba has found themselves.

Rivers united have the opportunity to do something spectacular this season, all they have to do is to stay focused and wait for a situation whereby Enugu Rangers may slip and create a vacuum for Rivers united to fill in at the top of the table. Rangers are dominating the league at the moment and interestingly the point difference isn't large and this presents the Rivers united football club with an opportunity to overtake Rangers if they drop points at this critical point where the only means of survival is to continue winning else you lose your place to the team that is behind

It's appalling that the almighty Eyimba those years is what their performance is nothing to write good about again. Look at their position in NPFL table(15th spot with 40 points). If no good improvement in the team, they can find themselves in the relegation zone, since they can't win match comfortably to a relegation team.

I feel the same way you do too bro. However, I recognize that this current team is not the same as the one from before. The management is also different- that’s how football is. Even if you look at the champions league you will see the same thing that clubs that used to top the table many years ago are now struggling for top 5 position. It a different team and management.

No matter how good a team is they will always face some tough and challenging season, Eyimba is one of the best teams in the Nigeria league and they have been doing well for long now.
This season is not there season  however, I don’t think they can ever get relegated I believe they will improve and do more better, they really need to step up if they want to finish well this season, I’m sure many people predicted that Eyimba will win the match comfortably, football always comes with surprises, I was shocked that they were unable to secure a win comfortably.

 In those days of 2005, 2008 to 2011, though I was not a serious on football like that but I was strongly aware that Enyimba was a strong team as of then. Once Enyimba name is called, you know that team is strong but I'm this days, Enyimba is like a team that has no value or name again. Though as football advance, teams also increase in skills.

I feel the same way you do too bro. However, I recognize that this current team is not the same as the one from before. The management is also different- that’s how football is. Even if you look at the champions league you will see the same thing that clubs that used to top the table many years ago are now struggling for top 5 position. It a different team and management.

But look at their situation now is very worst, they are now average team fighting for survival in the relegation zone. What is even paining me the most is the team am even supporting which is Remo stars because am from Ogun state, I saw a lot of potential in this team through their owners, and the club management. When they win the league last season I was like this will be a new era for the  Nigerian premier League but now they have allow greed of money to enter their eyes by selling of their best players to abroad.This is what is killing this league, any top Star that we build up we sell them to Europe.

There are some major things that are making strong teams to become weaker teams in the future and not necessarily the management but the players. And that happens when the team has more injury players and some of the key Players might have retired. And in that process if the team has no good players to withstand the average teams that were struggling, they would beat them. Liverpool is facing the same scenario and other teams. So it is not only in Nigeria.

You're right to some extent but don't your also think the management probem is the major issue as xackie pointed out, are those guys motivated, are they paid very well, the league side you used as a case study have a well pays team and can also sign good players if they want, don't you think that  the reason why some persons are often not interested in watching some of our country legaue matches is because their no seriousness, I ask what is the step that a club is supposed to take when players keep retiring? Replacement right, I appreciate what you guys are doing in this thread but I will have say that Nigerian football is not impressive at all.

Do not forget that management of players is very important for a team to continuing winning and being the best.
There was a time when Chelsea as a club won the champions which was due to their amazing performances to have led them to winning the cup. Currently we have been seeing how Chelsea has been performing very weak which applies to other clubs too in the Nigerian league.

After two draws and a loss in previous matches, Bendel Insurance won their match today by 1 goal against Abia Warriors. I never believe this win would happen for Bendel Insurance to win a top team like Abia Warriors that are maintaining a good form to appear at the top 4 spot. Who knows what the remaining match of the season would be like as below team are picking forms to win in an unexpected way

Welll for me I wasn’t shocked about the score line, considering how good Bendel insurance have been at home the season then I expect them to be able to win Abia warriors at home. It was a game that could have gone either way but as always we know the home side always have a big possibility in winning. Abia warriors are challenging for the league and atleast they Should have been able to get atleast a point from this game.

We have so much to watch and spectate about tomorrow, for me I’m looking forward to watch Enugu rangers match and also rivers utd. Both teams are really looking to win the league this season so they would both want to get a win tomorrow.

You are right I don't know why the official thread for the Nigerian premier League is not too active. Knowing that the Nigerian local board is one of the most busiest on the forum. I expected that the Nigerians should be making comments on this thread, it's a shame that through out the entire football season not more than fifteen persons made comments on the thread. Today was the last day of the Nigerian professional football league and I most confess that this edition was one of the most keenly contested seasons I have seen.


Because up time the last match day there was no actual winner and even on the relegation teams were not guaranteed. But congratulations to Rangers as they have been crown champions of the night professionally football league this season.

Some how this season there has being some tremendous improvement in the league, we no longer have those issues of compulsory home wins as it were several years ago and seeing former defending champions being relegated is also a testament of how intense the league was this season as this reminds me of Leicester city that won the EPL title in 2016 and then went to relegation  later on.
Rivers united also fought a good fight but I guess Rangers were the better side and they deserved the title.

Congratulations to them, I don't follow the league but watching their celebrating video got my attention. I also got to know the coach Fidelis Ilechukwu has won two NPFL titles since joining the club 3 years ago.

I celebrate with them, despite not from Enugu, seeing that we have coaches that can pickup at international levels.

Enugu Rangers deserves this trophy because they have waited patiently for this very trophy for a very long time. I was actually thinking that this season Rivers united were going to win the league at some points because Rivers united were actually leading and was having some outstanding games left to play, due to their CAF champions League engagement on the continent but River united gave that lead up by dropping points both at home and away.



The league title still would have gone to Rivers united on the last day , had it been that Rangers drop points. But Rangers were hungry for the title and showed class by winning their game convincingly. But not a good one for a side like Bayelsa united that were relegated this season. This is one team that just got promotion to the premier League last season, and again they are going into relegation this season this is not a good one for them because it's not easy getting promotion to the league.
