I hate to say it but anyone that tries to add trust to a inherently trustless system is not only missing the point but gets what thy deserve.

*I wasn't going to comment here but it makes me sick to see people miss the entire point of bitcoin.

My cold scam keys will clearly be a reminder of that, but with any lesson in life you move on and learn from it. I know a lot of us have lost a lot in this collection, including me and I just got here as this was my first collectables smh, but this is a great community and I'm sure we will get through it and move on.

perhaps so but there are proven makers that have been tested and tried and have still proven to be trust worthy. It is however an inherent risk and one we all take the risk with - that said, it does not mean we condone or allow or are happy with the thieving shitheads that do it.

You got a point about the trust issue in a trustless system......and yeah we collectors are in this type of hobby and know the risks.

There always bad apples out there and we take the chances of knowing this.

But something is in the works to make this an entirely trustless hobby where an event like this will never happen again...so stay tuned.

I don’t know man… Just because Bitcoin is trustless doesn’t mean that you can never trust anyone. Lots of people get away just fine trusting things and not getting screwed. Look at anyone who has ever accepted a PayPal payment. I wouldn’t blame the buyers for trusting someone. They took a risk and it didn’t pan out in this case, but Yogg is still very much the asshole here.

Ha, thanks for the apology, your initial message had me steeming for a few seconds. Truth hits the most I guess.
Anyway, I think all collectors here are very aware of the contradicton of physical crypto. And Yogg helped me (and many others) to be reminded of this paradox again.

Yes, it contradicts Bitcoin's fundamental idea by adding a massive trust element.
The idea of a funded collectible, that can theoretically be passed down generations and handed over in person in the physical world is just something very appealing. Combnine this with a rare metal (silver, gold) and you get such a cool piece.
Trust me, it's a great conversation starter even with the most annoying crypto-sceptics.

I think as long as you are aware of the risks and understand that a loaded crypto collectible is very far from what Bitcoin actually stands for, you are good to go.

Get educated about Bitcoin. Check out Andreas Antonopoulos on Youtube. An old but gold talk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rc744Z9IjhY

UPDATE 2024: Daniel Schmachtenberger on The Meta-Crisis: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LSx8j8lSewA Important talk about the current state of this planet and human society in general.

This is probably a good attitude to have. I’d recommend also trying to put yourself in the creator’s shoes and understand their motivation for doing what they do. Casascius for example didn’t create physical coins to get rich, he did it because it was a cool new use case. He even stopped selling them when he could’ve charged insane amounts for new pieces. Even myself, I don’t engrave Minted Seats for next to nothing to get rich and giving away my mining and coin sale proceeds to NastyFans members has cost me several million dollars in donated BTC. I do it because I think it’s cool and fun. Understanding a creator’s motive is paramount to keeping from being victimized in this space.

You made all that back by using your role as treasurer to profit off forum funds by keeping forks/airdrops. And you also hold the most seats so most of what you give to seat holders just comes back to you anyways.

Probably not, but have to hope... Thankfully it's not a huge amount of BTC, but still.. FUCK THAT SCAM-GUY!!! Sad

Glad to hear it.
Checking if I can get my funds now.

For anyone who hasn't swept their funds yet, do so now!
Broadcast the code from the huge-QR here: https://www.blockchain.com/de/explorer/assets/btc/broadcast-transaction
Then sweep your funds when available.

I can confirm I was able to sweep my precious Bitcoin as well!

The minute I woke up at 4 am I was pleasantly surprised it was still there and not taken.

I also used a very high miners fee to make sure I got to it first in case he was planning to steal!

 For people with the SHITBONDS.....

We are getting closer....current block is 351 and we need to reach 416!

So if each block is an average 10 min that gives us... 65 blocks more to go x 10 min = 650min/60=10.8 Hours!

Stay vigilant and transmit right away!!  Goodluck fellas!

Approximate NYC time 200am EST tomorrow

Ah fuck.. I have to get up at 4am est. Hopefully it's not swept by then. Any way to broadcast in advance and have it stay in the mempool until block hits? Tongue

Probably not, but have to hope... Thankfully it's not a huge amount of BTC, but still.. FUCK THAT SCAM-GUY!!! Sad

Hi Owlz....very good question....Unfortunately you will need to wait until the block or TImelock time is met prior to broadcasting otherwise the network will reject the raw Bitcoin Transaction.

There is a different type of TimeLock smartcontract where the code and the bitcoin are embedded onto the blockchain and something like this could never happen....more complicated and I was gonna get into this for my products but I backed off as most users would have a hard time with it.

But something is in the works to make this an entirely trustless hobby where an event like this will never happen again...so stay tuned.
Looking forward to it.

Didn't mean to kick you guys when your down, just getting sick of seeing these type things and was drinking a little. Wink
*old man shakes fist at cloud.
Thanks and happens to the best of us....but what is with the small font that I can barely see and became only aware of it

when I quoted your text . LOL  Hidden messages.... Cheesy

In the last couple of days, I had been considering whether I wanted to respond to some of the ideas contained in this post, and many of us have likely come to realize and appreciate that how to evaluate the value of some kind of a good (or service) (or collectible for that matter) may not always be clear in regards to what we are buying versus what we might believe that we are buying and our abilities to calculate risks, which ultimately become part of how we might evaluate possibilities that a private key could be compromised or would be compromised by various potentially weak security points along the way, and if we might not sufficiently understand the various vulnerability points, we may well end up mis-attributing value (or misplacing something to be something other than what it is)  - like attempting to equate a 1 in a thousand coin piece that we find at a pawn shop, versus a representation of scarcity on the bitcoin blockchain, or is it on some other blockchain, and do we even understand and appreciate the difference  - which would contribute to our "knowing what we are getting into" by recognizing and appreciating the risks.

Of course, some of the values of the pumps and dumps in the "crypto space" have to do with how easily it is to achieve unrealistic and non-substantiated price appreciation that ends up being based on momentum rather than actual fundamental assessments of the asset class, and surely right now most forum members recognize Yogg as a security hole that had not been appreciated at an earlier date, and even some members might even question whether some other forum members might have also helped to enable him, but then so many matters might seem as if they are more clear (in terms of 20/20 vision) after they occurred, so even if a decently large number of forum members "learned their lesson" regarding risks that they had not realized, the getting acquainted with crypto space, seems to have some decent numbers of repetition of the ways in which the bad guy had swindled the good guys (or the new innocent ones) out of a decent amount of their bitcoin, even if maybe small amounts from each one (rather than a lot from a few).

I am not going to proclaim to know any answers, except for merely wanting to point out that it can be quite difficult to identify the extent to which people understand and appreciate the level of risk that they are in (to be rug pulled), and even some people (in the real world) who I had previously respected when they were in their 30s, 40s and 50s, sometimes end up being vulnerable in their old age when it might have had been presumed that they "know better" than to be tricked into some kind of a scam.. but then maybe at some point they are no longer earning money on a regular basis that keeps up with inflation, and they become more vulnerable because their income is flat, even though maybe they have a lot of money "in savings" or "in investments" that they perceive to be "underperforming" and all of a sudden they transform into someone who becomes eager (or is it "greedy?") to earn yield (or to get returns that are higher than they should be expecting to be getting).

1) Self-Custody is a right.  There is no such thing as "non-custodial" or "un-hosted."  2) ESG, KYC & AML are attack-vectors on Bitcoin to be avoided or minimized.  3) How much alt (shit)coin diversification is necessary? if you are into Bitcoin, then 0%......if you cannot control your gambling, then perhaps limit your alt(shit)coin exposure to less than 10% of your bitcoin size...Put BTC here: bc1q49wt0ddnj07wzzp6z7affw9ven7fztyhevqu9k

Could you imagine if like Yogg was on his deathbed or something and needed an operation to pay for it all and the only way to save his own life was to steal all this money from everyone and to never look back? Idk, I know he had health issues. The only thing I can think is that nobody could be this heartless to everyone if they didn't desperately need it. If they didn't and they just stole then they're just an asshole but part of me thinks that there is so much more to this story. I just wish Yogg has the balls the send the last message. Whether it be that he screwed everyone or was desperate I just wish we knew. The truth remains to be seen.

Hey kept the private keys while he should have destroyed them, end of story!

Indeed.  There is enough evidence now I feel to say that this was his plan from the beginning.  Between the closing of his company, tracing the stolen funds to an exchange, him not coming to face the music, keeping all the private keys from the beginning...

This is an example of it being harder to convince someone they've been scammed, then to scam someone.  Yogg was a scammer and he scammed.  He received plenty of help from his "friends" who are now busy thinking of ways to capitalize on the incident to sell more products to the scammed customers.  All I can say is to be careful and don't be the guy who thinks there's more to this story.  You'll be disappointed.  Yogg was a scammer and he scammed.  If you fell for it or considered him a part of your friend group, you were bamboozled and should take a long hard look at that friend group, because if there was any more to this story, it would be that Yogg didn't do this by himself.

"There is enough evidence now I feel to say that this was his plan from the beginning".  I disagree and would argue just the opposite.  If he wanted to do this from the beginning he would have done things a lot differently.  He also would have had a much better system set up for sweeping funds.  He was doing this slowly over the course of hours, and as far as we know just for the halving sets.  He's a Mr Robot type, he would have had a much better system lined up to be able to easily sweep keys quickly, and not just one set of cards, but all of his cards.  As far as we know so far, only the halving sets have been swept.  Sure he didn't fund a lot of other cards, but that's different.

Either way, he's a scammer and it all sickens me.  The betrayal I feel right now is one I don't think I've ever felt.

Ooof.  randomly came across this post of mine which needs correction. OGNasty a page or two ago is right. I’ve told a few people but at this point I know there’s no hope for Yogg making any good so.. I messaged him via the forum and just told him how shocked I was. I was struggling to come to terms with the the potential truth which is in fact he’s just a scamming pos.  I told him to reach out so we could chat. Few hours later and I see a call to my phone from France.  Long story short I ruled out serious mental health issue/breakdown.  He admitted to me that he had built in a “kill switch “ (keep the keys) form day fucking one. I tried several times to get him to send at least what he had made, funded or not..so that people he screwed over could have something. He had absolutely no interest in that. None. Not to mention what hurt most was that he had rot only ruined a friendship but I never got as much as a single sorry. Then a few days later he sweeps more cards (I messaged him on discord to a now defunct account, and begged him not to do it. Told me he was hungry and needed food) which meant he lied to me on the phone about not having any more keys left.  He also told me he hated cryptocurrency stuff, coding etc and has all along.  So yeah, he played us alll, for years. I’m not quite sure even why he called me at all.
.
Anyways..been meaning to share this. Also hoping this drives the “community” to stop dickiing around and come up w/a plan on how to disperse the funds from the charity auction. Personally I’d be pissed off if I was say Kilalara (who’s not said a peep about this) who was not affected by this at all, but out the kindness of his heart donated a valuable collectible… a good while ago now. It was meant to help those whom really needed it, and it’s yet to happen. Suing him is an option that is not even remotely wise. I don’t want anything back to be clear, but if everyone can’t come up with a consensus on what to do ..btc should be sent back to all the donators.  At this point is gotten utterly ridiculous.  Set a date, no consensus, donators refund.
